Could Kash Jackson be in jail on election day?

Posted in:

* More background is here. From Mike Flannery at Fox 32

Four Illinois governors have gone to prison in recent decades, after they won the office.

But one new candidate who filed Monday already faces a six-month jail sentence and could be locked up in a few weeks.

Born Benjamin Winderweedle, he served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, retired, then changed his name last year to Kash Jackson. He’s just filed for governor on the Libertarian Party ticket. But he’s already famous for failing to pay his ex-wife thousands of dollars he owes for child support and education.

“This is why they try and paint me as a ‘deadbeat father.’ Because I’m speaking about it. Anytime that they reduce a parent down to a visitor to their children, that justifies the state putting in support orders. And in Illinois grotesquely inflated support orders,” Jackson said. […]

A Lake County judge ordered Libertarian Kash Jackson to pay the overdue child support to his ex-wife by Aug. 6th — or go to jail for six months. That means he could be locked up on Election Day, apparently a first for a candidate for governor of Illinois, several of whom got locked up after Election Day.

Nice snark.

  1. Dude, maybe you need to get your own life together just a wee bit before you presume to have the chops to be governor.

  3. Grotesquely inflated support orders. Typically for two kids it’s 28 percent of net income, hardly onerous.

He “knew it would all come out. What better way to expose the crime syndicate known as family law.” Maybe he’s going to go to jail on principle to further his point? It’s all a plan to expose corruption man.

  7. Changed his name to Kash Jackson. Winderwheedle seemed to blasé for an up and comer politico? Nice move. Bakes in a sense of trust and reliability, doesn’t it. What a doof.

  12. So, is it cheaper for the Governor to be housed in the Lake County jail or in the newly renovated Governor’s mansion in Springfield?

Reduced operating expenses from the Governor’s office sounds like a winning campaign platform.

No need for staff. No travel. No security staff required. What’s not to like?

  15. Kash is a deadbeat because he owes a few thousand.

What do you call somebody that has racked up a debt of about $7,000,000,000?

  16. He’s got a point about fathers being pushed out of their lives, but the law is the law. If it says you owe child support then you owe it. You’re not a deadbeat dad because you can’t visit. You’re a deadbeat because you didn’t pay what you owe. I like some libertarian ideas, but I could never get on board with their club. They allow too many crazies and conspiracy nuts in their ranks.

  17. And his choice for a new name was a bad one. Kash Jackson just sounds the the owner of a payday lending firm or a “buy here, pay here” racket.

  18. He might be a goof, but man, he’s good at making up a name. Kash Jackson…that sounds so cool.

Are you kidding?…it is glaringly apparent it doesn’t take many chops to be Governor of Illinois…just Kash.

  24. That child support agreement was from Arkansas. So why is he saying Illinois is unfair.

Also, the first name of the woman in the order of protection is different from the name of the woman in the child support. So does he have multiple ex’s and is complaining that they all need child support? It seems like a self-created problem to me.

  25. –Didn’t Lyndon LaRouche run for President from jail once?–

Don’t care to know more about him, but Eugene Debs received nearly one million votes in 1920 while serving a stretch on a sedition conviction for a speech advocating draft resistance.

  26. How is it legal that he is going to go to jail for owing money? I thought debtors prison was illegal.

Comment by Huh? Tuesday, Jun 26, 18 @ 5:13 pm

  27. @Huh?

People who are not paying their child support can indeed be sent to jail. When they pay off their child support arrearage, they are released.

  30. It’s for contempt of court for not following the court order ordering you to pay the child support. And if you can convince the judge that you are not willfully ignoring the court order, if you get a statement from your last job saying you’ve been out of work for months or something (and of course show up in court, which many people evidently don’t), a judge is probably not going to throw you in jail. If on the other hand you’ve been booking trips to Hawaii every other weekend (just made that up, not saying Kash did that) and haven’t paid, the judge very well might.
