A million Illinoisans have voted so far

Posted in:

* Impressive…

As of this morning 481,894 voters have requested a vote by mail ballot but only 44% have returned their ballot. https://t.co/OugogxmCDt

An additional 782,930 have voted early. Combine that with the VBM ballots returned and the grace period voters: > a million votes already.

Election officials say early voting is increasingly popular. Illinois has expanded its early voting period.

Daily pre-election early voting totals weren’t available for previous years.

Officials say during 2012’s general election, nearly 16 percent of registered voters voted early at polls, representing 22 percent of the nearly 5.3 million votes.

  1. The earlier you go, the more often you can go!

  2. I think in certain places at certain times, we’ve actually reached a tipping point where it takes longer to vote early than it does to vote on election day.

  3. I voted this morning. Don’t remember when I had less pleasure from voting. Too many gave too much to blow it off.

  4. If you’re a campaign that doesn’t know whose voting…

You’re losing right about … “Now”

  5. Already voted by mail.

  6. Having read in Jim Laski’s book how he once was denied a summer job because his precinct captain knew who he voted for on his absentee ballot, I would NEVER vote by mail.

Vote early, yes. Vote by mail, never.

  7. Voted last Thursday at the Village of Downers Grove. Pretty good crowd.

You bought that book? So you’re the one. Huh.

I doubt that ballot was mailed by the voter. Probably hand delivered to the clerk or to the post office by the captain.

  12. I like the in-person early voting. My dinky little village in Peoria CO had it at the library on 24th of October. Quick, easy and totally accessible for my wheel-chaired self.

  13. If we all vote early can we get the campaigning to stop?

  14. “Only 44% have returned their ballot.”

Anyone know if that’s a typical return rate a week out?

  15. I will be waiting for election day. Last time I had 2 people in line ahead of me. I had to wait a minute for an open booth. And you get a nifty sticker. Then again, all those new wrap-up ads may force me to change my mind, again.

  16. I voted early. I wanted it to be over. Sadly the campaigning continues.

  17. I voted early in the Sangamon County Courthouse on Sunday. It was fairly quick, but I had to go through the metal detector and take my belt off and put my belt back on — and my 2″ unsharp pen knife was temporarily confiscated. I think next time I’ll just go to my regular polling place on election day.

  18. I am among them, as is my entire brood. Early voting works wonderfully for us.

  20. I voted early also. I alternate between thrilled that it’s almost over and petrified about who might win.

Standard procedure at the County Building. You just learn to leave all the metal you can in the car
