Quigley-Kolber in the 5th. Not that I think it’ll be much of a race, but because it’ll be good to finally have a meaningful local race on the north side.
Too many ward organizations have atrophied because there are no Republicans to fight. We’ve gotten fat and lazy and this is a good exercise to see what is left of the “machine” up in this neck of the woods. Quigley is no danger, but hopefully he, Durbin and Pat Quinn can spend some money in the right places and create some enthusiasm in an area of the city the Dems take for granted. If they do it right, they can add some important extra votes that might otherwise stay home in an off-year.
Plus, it’d be good practice before the city elections next February.
Duckworth’s race.
Two military personalities. Both brash and blunt.
Mussman’s race.
Mom on a mission. How’s that mission coming along? Democrat in a historically GOP district.
Opponent robocall was well timed right before the 7/4 parades with pointed question was memorable and relevant.
Terri Bryant vs. Bill Kilquist in the 115th. Would love to see a poll on that race. Lots of signage up for Bryant, heard little to nothing out of Kilquist.

Quinn Security vs Rauner Tracker . . . .Has over 100 views on CapitolFax; statewide intrigue, ability to define both campaigns from here to election day. Pull up a seat and grab the popcorn!!
The word locally is that Nybo isn’t well liked, but he’s known to be a hard worker. Glowiak is a solid pick demographically. The question is - can she pull off a Tom Cullerton in DuPage County?
- lake county democrat - Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 3:06 pm:
Schneider-Dold (a close congressional race with an interesting “will the far left/right come out for their candidate” angle, though Dold is more to the right than he portrays himself)
Jason Patt v. Mark Curran for Lake County Sheriff - department is troubled to say the least.
Springfield Mayor’s race. Old guard versus the (more or less) new kids. Could determine who dominates in Springfield for many years. Be interesting to watch.
Bell-Scherer. Both are terrible candidates and the district is a 50 plus one. My guess is Durkin will hold off to see how things go before he drops any money in this race. Word is that Springfield dislikes her so bad that less then 10 people came to an event she had. I have also heard Bell is hard headed and will not listen to anyone. Still, I think that the tide would really have to turn for the incumbent to loose this one. For all her faults she is a massive campaigner.
“The word locally is that Nybo isn’t well liked, but he’s known to be a hard worker.”
Nybo may not be well-liked by some Republican insiders because of his courage to act independently at times; however, voters who have come to know him, love him.
It appears May be some validly in post about macon county treasurer race. Yoder is gone from office a great deal of the time farming. Grimm served several terms and was a full time treasurer. “
Mike Frerichs has given Tom Cross so many openings at this point, this race could be an “Election Day” win by one of them, unless Cross frames the Dopiness of Frerichs after Labor Day and turns that into votes.
Batinick vs. Dunn in the 97th. It’s an open seat and even though the district leans Republican, I get the feeling that some voters may turn on the local GOP for the mess that has occurred with the Plainfield Park District.
The McHenry County Sheriff race between Independent Jim Harrison and Republican Bill Prim could be interesting too.
Assuming local means just that and not a state wide race, I’m not following any because there really aren’t any local races where I live–all incumbents have little or no opposition.
Schilling was defeated by newcomer Bustos partly because of his dishonest campaign ads last time. It will be interesting to see if she, as an incumbent now, has enough strength to hold off a former incumbent.
Crespo v. Juarez. The challenger is telling.people he’s ahead in the polls, though he got only 30% last time. Crespo may no longer be walking constantly, but does he have to in this NW Cook district? On the other hand, it is state GOP chairman Schneider’s home turf
Mussman v Moynihan. Musman won by 20 points in her first re-election. She has never stopped walking. If she buries this latest challenger in a Republican year, perhaps Republicans will realize they ain’t getting this district back.
1. The assembly seat in champaign. Can a GOPer beat a dem on their own turf? One of the few races where my party puts the electable person on the ballot and the Dems don’t.
2. The Springfield mayoral race.
3. Rahm vs Karen
4. Jacobs.
5. 3 separate congressional races featuring gay republican challengers.
Suarez vs Cook…. In 2010 the St Clair FEMS & Gomric barely pull that race out. Without East St Louis they lose that race. The question is will St Clair finally lose with the drag from Quinn and the bad press from Judges on heroin to ODing on coke. This will be interesting to watch.

Thillens is gonna get creamed, but I just enjoy the theatre
