Sebastian’s restaurant to close December 20th
Friday, Dec 12, 2014 - Posted by Rich Miller * I was just at lunch with an old pal at the Lake Pointe Grill when one of the owners approached and said they were closing their popular downtown restaurant Sebastian’s on the 20th of this month. Bummer. I liked the place. It won our Golden Horseshoe Award last year. Maybe we should toast its demise Friday the 19th after work? Maybe our own little Springfield holiday party? Your thoughts?

Maybe you could make the private CaptFax HQ with cigars etc. very trendy with Mitt coming in f/t

I thought about doing that years ago when Norb’s closed, but they wanted way too much for the building.

You’re like the SI cover curse.

They just opened a third restaurant not too long ago. I wonder if it was a landlord/lease issue, or if they stretched themselves too thin.

Sebastian’s is a great place, but they don’t have a kids menu that tops McDonalds. So unfortunately once we became parents over and over and over and over and over and over - well, we couldn’t take advantage of its awesomeness anymore. Besides I think Sebastian’s caused one of those pregnancies.
So - if you hold it, I’ll have to come without the VanillaWife. We got enough kids now.
Sad to see it closing. BTW, Lake Pointe is first rate too and down around where you live right?

If that’s true, lets give the Golden Horseshoe this year to Golden Corral. Their pre-chewed buffet food won’t rot in a Panamanian jungle.

As far as Sebastian’s, you’d only be interested in the basement anyway, right?

The next QOTD: Where will Madigan eat dinner?
- Hacksaw Jim - Friday, Dec 12, 14 @ 2:56 pm:
What a shame, but not terribly surprising. Their menu was high quality, and the prices were reasonable. One time there, a friend and I were talking to the waitress about why the restaurant was so empty, and during that conversation she told us that if it wasn’t for session days, the place wouldn’t make any money.
In the summer, I was there with my wife, and noticed a considerable difference in service and food quality. Guess you gotta go on the cheap when there aren’t people around. Don’t know why more locals didn’t frequent the place more often. Ill be sad to see them go.

If Rich had a clubhouse, why do I think it would be as great as the Bamboo Room in Goodfellas, or even Henry’s corner place?
Hope it would be like “Sam’s” was too.

Because the bouncer looking through the little window on the door, wouldn’t let you in?

maybe like “The Aloha”

“Don’t know why more locals didn’t frequent the place more often.” We’re too busy eating corn dogs, horse shoes when not tipping cows?

That’s a real bummer. Vic was my landlord while I lived in Springfield. Super nice guy and I hope this doesn’t mean that they’re hurting in their other ventures. All the best to him.

Is that a question or an explanation? If it’s a question, I don’t have the answer.

Always liked the place, sorry to see it go. I think the Lieutenant Governor should buy it and make it her Central Illinois Outreach Center. It’s a very manageable walk north of the governor’s mansion and would give local folks like me a chance to take a break from cow tipping and share my concerns with the Lieutenant Governor.

Nah. They’re planning to open another place out west. It’s not easy running a restaurant downtown. The infrastructure alone is a mess.
- Rich Miller - Friday, Dec 12, 14 @ 4:39 pm:
And since nobody appears to want to do a holiday party, I guess we won’t.

I sure do!! We’ll be there friday for Happy hour. So sad to hear
the place is closing. Soooo many great memories from years
past. Lobbyists and legislators thought it was one of the finest
new resturants here. My seatmate, my beloved best buddy,
Rep. Terry Deering and our crew would hang out there to
discuss the great issues of the day and determine who’s golf
outings we were going to after session ended. Such good
times and sooo many laughs!!
More importantly, my future wife and I had our first dinner date
upstairs, excellent food and those stuffed shrimp were to die for. So, many kudos to Sebastians owners. It was a great ride
and God Bless my dear friend Terry Deering and of course, my
lovely bride.
