This year is so weird. Porter is a Reaganite–he worked in the Bush 41 White House–so Cruz (even with his many faults) is much closer to Porter’s views than Trump is.

That said, he *is* very anti-Clinton, and the Rs need to dance with who brung ya in the presidential race. And that ain’t Ted.

Trump called him Lyin Ted, claimed his father was involved in the conspiracy to assign ate JFK and said his wife was ugly.

Then he let Cruz have a prime time speaking slot on the second most important night of the convention.

    Stupid is as stupid does.

And I thought MY family was dysfunctional…

  4. - wordslinger - Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 9:51 am:

I’m certainly no fan of Cruz, but I totally understand and respect his action.

Trump ridiculed his wife’s looks to the world, accused his father of being in on the JFK assassination and repeatedly called him a liar.

Where I come from, if you bring that mess, you’re going to spend a month in the dentist’s chair.

    Jinx.

  6. - so... - Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 10:03 am:

I’m trying to think of the Democratic equivalent of Ted Cruz to describe how hated he is by many in the party.

Maybe Joe Lieberman in his final few years?

  7. - Ron Burgundy - Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 10:04 am:

Yep, no problem with Cruz not endorsing. Words have consequences Mr. Trump.

  8. - Rabid - Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 10:09 am:

Does anybody remember who put trump’s wife on the bear skin rug on tv?

  9. - Ghost - Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 10:12 am:

They lost party untiy when they opened by bashing Kasich, the popular gov of a swing state…. who they had been wooing!

  10. - Thoughts Matter - Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 10:14 am:

I had no problem with Ted Cruz last night. I’m not a Cruz supporter, but I could have dealt with him as the nominee. Not so with Trump. Cruz was invited/allowed to speak at the Republican convention. Seems to me he’s playing by Trumps not politically correct, say what you really feel rule book.

The GOP is ill, they might as well rename it to the Trump party- at least then the party leaders that stayed would be honest. As Reagan famously said’ I didn’t leave the party, they left me.’

===Does anybody remember who put trump’s wife on the bear skin rug on tv? ===

Yeah, like that GQ spread would’ve NEVER come out otherwise.

    Keep dreaming.

  12. - Thoughts Matter - Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 10:17 am:

    Rabid-

Did she pose for that picture willingly and get paid for it, and it was published in widely available magazines? Then she can be called on it, First Ladies don’t run for office, but they still represent our country. Their past is relevant.

  13. - Annonin' - Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 10:18 am:

Wonder if Teddy will come in for CommandoMakeItUp or Wingman?

  14. - Mason born - Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 10:20 am:

    Rabid

You mean the picks Trump had taken of his naked GF now wife so GQ could use them for attention when he wanted to run for POTUS on Reform ticket? Those?

How sad is it when telling folks to vote their conscience is viewed as slamming your parties nominee.

Wordslinger 47th +1 not sure I could’ve been that restrained.

Doesn’t matter. It was a heroic display of civic service! lol /s

  16. - @MisterJayEm - Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 11:24 am:

Mere weeks after slandering Ted Cruz, Cruz’s father and Cruz’s wife, Donald Trump gave Cruz an open microphone on live, prime-time television?

    Putin would eat Trump alive.

  17. - Cheryl44 - Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 11:27 am:

I t must be terribly freeing for Ted to realize no one likes him.

  18. - Wensicia - Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 11:41 am:

Ted Cruz is about Ted Cruz and none else. He has zero respect for his fellow Republicans, so does he really care about party unity? That said, at least other prominent, anti-Trump Republicans abstained from attending this convention, let alone giving a prime time speech. Cruz should have stayed home as well.

  19. - Rabid - Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 11:59 am:

When cruz’s message is nudies and that’s all he has I guess it’s fair game. Cruz started it trump finished it do you think Hillary will run GQ layout too?

  20. - JoanP - Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:25 pm:

Yes, it was such a show of unity that Heidi Cruz had to be escorted out of the convention hall by security for her safety.

What is *wrong* with these people?

  21. - Mason born - Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 3:32 pm:

    John

Considering they’re apoplectic about someone telling voters to “vote their Conscience” I’m guessing a lot of guilt and regret. At least I hope that’s it and not blind cult like obedience to the Orangenfuhrer.

  22. - Mason born - Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 3:33 pm:

    *JoanP* new phone dumber autocorrect.

  23. - walker - Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 4:00 pm:

    Wait just a minute!

Papa Gingrich told Hannity last night that Cruz’s language was “clearly an endorsement of Mr. Trump.” We “just didn’t get his humor.”

    That fixes it for sure.

  24. - Arthur Andersen - Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 4:34 pm:

You losers just don’t get it. See, Trump knew in advance he was gonna say that, but let him proceed to let Cruz look foolish. /s
