Statement from the governor’s press office

Tuesday, Dec 9, 2008 - Posted by Rich Miller

* 12:38 PM - Press release…

“Today’s allegations do nothing to impact the services, duties or function of the State. Families will continue to receive healthcare, seniors and persons with disabilities the support and services they need, the hundreds of thousands of unemployed Illinoisans will still receive assistance. Our state will continue to ensure health, safety, and economic stability for the citizens of Illinois.”

Probably a little off topic…but who picks up the Governor’s legal bills in this? If he stays in office and is not removed, will taxpayers foot the bills for this?

  2. - Greg - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 12:43 pm:

Probably not good time to raise the tolls on the Illinois Tollway.

  3. - Bill - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 12:45 pm:

Yeah, sure they will until around March 10 when the wheels fall off and the state goes completely broke.

  4. - OneMan - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 12:46 pm:

    Resign…

Don’t see how the taxpayers defend him in this. It looks like he will have to rely on the Winston Strawn Governors defence pro-bono practice.

  5. - Amuzing Myself - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 12:46 pm:

Well THAT’S reassuring. I was under the impression that government had never worked until he took office and everything would shut down if he’s not in his home office directing every action of every office under his control. Whew!

  6. - Angry Chicagoan - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 12:49 pm:

Well, when chickens are decapitated, the bodies still keep running around the yard for a few seconds or minutes.

  7. - Ron Burgundy - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 12:51 pm:

Translation: “In the absence of our Fearless Leader, we will continue to screw up the State of Illinois like we always have, because Rod would have wanted it that way.”

  8. - lifer - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 1:03 pm:

Fortunately the state employee has always been doing the work of the state while the governor put a price tag on everything. It explains why very little has been accomplished in six years.

State employees have been used and abused by him for years and it is the best thing the governor has ever done for his employees’ morale.

  9. - Cassandra - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 1:06 pm:

Yes, he’s planning to stay on and on on….

And don’t be too sure the House will impeach. let’s think about who doesn’t want Pat Quinn as govenor for the next decade.

  10. - Bill - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 1:26 pm:

If Rod thinks he has it bad today in federal custody wait until he gets home tonight. If I were him I’d hop in the plane and spend the night in the mansion.

  11. - Been There - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 1:36 pm:

This is like a flight attendant coming back to the cabin and saying not to worry that we just saw the captain and first mate parachuting out of the plane. Its on auto-pilot.
Of course the plane you were on was suspect in the first place. A left over WWII bomber.

  12. - Dan S, a Voter and Cubs Fan - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 1:46 pm:

Gov. Goofy always wanted “national attention”, well it looks like he’s getting it. I’m sure all in all it’s an up day in Gov Goofy’s world. Oh, look a kitty.

  13. - Illinois.Pundit - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 1:49 pm:

Bill can you do a mapquest for the Governor so he knows how to get to the mansion. And he’s under a lot of stress so make sure Patti doesn’t know how to reach him and that at least three of the regular girls are there waiting for him.

  14. - One of the 35 - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 1:54 pm:

Nothing to see here. Move along now. These are not the droids we are looking for.

  15. - Bill - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 1:59 pm:

    Illinois Pundit,
I’d just tell him it is across the street from the Mansion View. I know he knows where that is.

  16. - Grayskull - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 2:58 pm:

So can I get on of the Govnr’s personal toll signs?

I mean after ALL!! I paid for 1

Honestly what the hell do we do with them NOW ?

  17. - Grayskull - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 3:03 pm:

I thinks to meself…..(self….maybe Senator D. can get a pardon for this Govnr tooo)

  18. - the Patriot - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 3:29 pm:

“continue to ensure health.” Uhh, no they won’t. In case you didn’t notice guv, there is at least one lawsuit pending by medical providers who took patients on your word and now have not been paid. Who is going to provide services to the state now based on his word? He has to go or the state will shut down. No one is going to accept executive authority at this point.

  19. - Oken - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 3:34 pm:

Where is the independence of the Tollway Board?

It appears they are just a group of Blago’s lackey’s!!!

  20. - Grayskull - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 3:49 pm:

Damn…I’m not sure…..but I think I just saw the Olympics 5 rings go up in flames…They WERE out on the lake…
But I could be wrong, as I’m only a taxpayer.

  21. - Milorod - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 3:52 pm:

“Today’s allegations do nothing to impact the services, duties or function of the State. Families will continue to receive healthcare, seniors and persons with disabilities the support and services they need, the hundreds of thousands of unemployed Illinoisans will still receive assistance. Our state will continue to ensure health, safety, and economic stability for the citizens of Illinois, SO LONG AS BLAGO CONTINUES TO GET HIS ‘CUT’ OF THE ACTION.”

  22. - Grayskull - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 3:59 pm:

I Hope they took the afternoon off..probably have headaches….I would..
Bet the bars are serving some new shooter to celebrate…..

  23. - Little Egypt - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 4:13 pm:

Bill, who are you kidding? Patti is breathing a sign of relief that it wasn’t she who was arrested first.

  24. - carol wood - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 4:34 pm:

Why, stop at the governor, this happens in all parts of illinois from the capital to all villiages, township stealing from the people is norm in this state in every aspect I have seen, from using equipment for donations as it cost us all. The poor property tax owner has to pay for all these so called elected officals big head and filling there pockets with our money

  25. - Dominic - Tuesday, Dec 9, 08 @ 10:59 pm:
