Anti-Drury ad sent to TV stations

Wednesday, Mar 7, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller

[This post has been bumped up to Wednesday for visibility because it was posted after normal business hours yesterday.]

* Remember that new Fight Back for a Better Tomorrow Super PAC with $675K in the bank and $600K earmarked for ads attacking Rep. Scott Drury? Well, even though the committee is being run out of Operating Engineers Local 150’s headquarters, I’m told this is not 150’s money.

Anyway, the ad has reportedly been sent to the stations, so here it is

…Adding… Script…

Drury: I’m Scott Drury. I’m a Democrat.

[Buzzer sound.]

Announcer: Really? Let’s follow the money. Drury’s taken $395,000 from Republicans and thousands from Trump’s own donors. And what do they get from Drury? He sided with Republicans and Rauner in the budget fight. He voted against working families. And Drury even voted against a tax on millionaires to improve education.

Drury: I’m a Democrat…

[Buzzer sound, Drury’s face x’d out]

Announcer: Drury. He takes Republican money and votes with them. The last thing we need as attorney general.

  2. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 5:43 pm:

    This is called being “Dunkin-ed”

This ain’t a good thing in a race of “658” Democrats in a statewide field… and no money or time to answer back…

  3. - SaulGoodman - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 5:45 pm:

What a waste of money. Drury is polling under 2% in any poll that I’ve seen.

Doesn’t labor have more important things to spend their money on?

  4. - Mike - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 5:48 pm:

Instead of wasting money on someone who is polling in the low single digits, I would’ve loved to see them prop up on the more serious candidates in the race, Sharon Fairley.

  5. - Mike - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 5:48 pm:

    one*

==Doesn’t labor have more important things to spend their money on?==

Meh. If anyone ever deserved a kick in the pants on his way to political irrelevance, it’s Drury.

This is about Drury and sinking him for evermore.

  9. - Railrat - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 6:06 pm:

If Madigan asks local150 to spend $600,000 on perch fishing it gets done ASAP product of today if you disagree regarding the left your going to be destroyed by the left

  10. - Mad dog - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 6:10 pm:

Oswego right. If your a D, and miss the local rtw zone override bill, you’ll be bombed out of existence. No waste of money, some people just don’t get it.

  11. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 6:11 pm:

    Couple important points,

Who broke the caps in the race?

Who used their own money to make that statement?

What is the best way to thumb your nose at a self-finder that alienated “you” and can’t keep up with a rebuttal.

  12. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 6:11 pm:

I just watched the ad again. Not a single clock in it.

  13. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 6:19 pm:

Paybacks a……. People know he’s losing. This isn’t win/loss, this is paying back your enemies for their betrayal.

  14. - Honeybear - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 6:59 pm:

What did I tell you. It’s about Drury’s ties to Rauner. It lays down a marker.
    Dems bought off by Rauner.

  15. - Honeybear - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 7:00 pm:

    Or…..Rauner money buys people off.
    Erika Harold….
    Munger…..
You can go alot of places with that.

  16. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 7:08 pm:

    Poor guy allready has ptsd

  17. - Angel's Sword - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 7:17 pm:

    A very effective ad.

But… why bother? I’m so confused. Drury was already on course to finish dead last.

  18. - Fax Machine - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 7:22 pm:

Unions wasting money like this is why we have the Janus case

  19. - Pundent - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 7:43 pm:

Laying down a marker with Rauner. That’s rich. Drury doesn’t have ties to Rauner, he’s simply obstinate. This is just plain old fashion retribution.

  20. - Lucky Pierre - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 7:55 pm:

“Let’s follow the money. Drury’s taken $395,000 from Republicans and thousands from Trump’s own donors.”

Of course we can trust Fight Back for a Better America right to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth right?

    http://illinoissunshine.org/committees/friends-of-scott-drury-23682/

Why let the truth get in the way of a good story

  21. - Responsa - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 9:11 pm:

For those of us who watched the SunTimes debate between all the AG candidates and saw how strongly and effectively Drury made his case as an outsider who will go after corruption, there is no surprise they are rabidly going after him like this.

  22. - Criticard - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 10:56 pm:

Whoever is behind this must have polling similar to Raoul’s internal poll. It’s no coincidence that Raoul and Madigan are going after Drury and Quinn. Should be an interesting two weeks.

  23. - Yanglingsh - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 11:05 pm:

Should we assume 150 will go after Yingling. He missed one of the right to work votes? Of course, Madigan tells him how to vote, so maybe he gets a pass. Gotta love Springfield.

  24. - lake county democrat - Wednesday, Mar 7, 18 @ 7:58 am:

    A little context:

Drury voted in alignment with EVERY independent voice was saying about the mandatory arbitration bill, INCLUDING progressive outlets like the Sun-Times. That he was the only Democrat to do show says far, far, more about Madigan and special interests than it does about Drury.

  25. - Barrington - Wednesday, Mar 7, 18 @ 9:07 am:

Wow, this ad is the kick in the pants on your way out of the Democratic Party and a warning to whoever wants to cross that line. Very effective warning to future candidates. Maybe we will see Drury as a Republican.

  26. - A guy - Wednesday, Mar 7, 18 @ 9:36 am:

I wasted 30 seconds I’ll never get back.

  27. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Mar 7, 18 @ 9:47 am:

Isn’t Oswego Willy funded by Local 150?

  28. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Mar 7, 18 @ 9:51 am:

    ===… funded by Local 150?==

That’s news to me, and I’m sure Local 150

    Good try.

  29. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Mar 7, 18 @ 9:55 am:

===Isn’t Oswego Willy funded by Local 150? ===

No, but maybe we can get him a grant.

    lol

  30. - Anon - Wednesday, Mar 7, 18 @ 10:48 am:

Retribution…plus tamping down any votes to fringe candidates could help Kwame against Quinn.

  31. - Pundent - Wednesday, Mar 7, 18 @ 11:07 am:

Anon - Agreed. This is going to be a very tight race. The only effect that Drury will have on the outcoming is where he siphons votes. If he gets over 10% I’d be surprised. But every vote he does get hurts the two guys at the top.
