I’m currently re-watching the Australian “Please Like Me.” If you read a general description of the show, it would say it stars a talented young comedian as a character who realizes he’s gay. To me it is the most stunning portrayal of what it’s like to have a parent with mental illness. Spoilers: the show begins with the mother’s suicide attempt and the full second season takes place while she’s having a psychiatric hospitalization. The 2016 season was great, but the show kind of went stale in 2017. I can’t wait to find out what happens in 2018 after they added some new characters like Yu Darvish and Tyler Chatwood. Theo’s writing and Maddon’s directing are solid, as is the narration by Len Kasper. I’m pretty sure they’re going to win it all again, in spectacular fashion, just like a Hollywood story. The hard part is avoiding any kind of news or conversation about the Cubs for seven months.
