Question of the day

Friday, Feb 14, 2020 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Jeanne Ives campaign…

To celebrate the holiday, I’ve come up with a special Valentine’s Day message:

    Roses are red
    Violets are blue
Sean Casten wants to raise taxes on you!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

* ILGOP…

In honor of Valentine’s Day this year, we wanted to share a poem that we wrote to Speaker Madigan.

Dear Madigan:

🌹Roses are red,🌹

💙Violets are blue,💙

Your network of political cronies

Are just as corrupt as you!

Higher taxes and more spending,

For you it’s nothing new,

🐘But the ILGOP says ENOUGH,🐘

🇺🇸And this November we’ll prove we’re through! 🇺🇸

* The Question: How about sending your own Valentine’s Day message? It can be political or personal. Up to you.

Roses are Red Violets are Blue
Sean Casten wants to end the SALT cap for you.

  2. - Norville Rogers - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 12:45 pm:

Oswego Willy, Thanks for driving away anyone with a different viewpoint. Dedicating your life to telling kids to get off your digital lawn is a noble vocation my friend.

  3. - Dance Band on the Titanic - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 12:47 pm:

    Roses are reds
    Violets are blues
    With nonsense like this
Dems are who voters will choose

  4. - Annonin - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 12:47 pm:

    Roses are Red
    Violets are Blue
    GOPies lost GovJunk
    And got nuthin’ new

  5. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 12:50 pm:

    - Norville Rogers -

I’d ask you to be my valentine, but I’m living in your head rent free, and I can’t match such a gift.

    To the question,

    Roses are red,

    Violets I’ve bumbled,

Here’s to a rebirth of the ILGOP

    Hope you’ve been humbled

  6. - NIref - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 12:50 pm:

    Dear ILGOP,

    I don’t need to rhyme,
to tell you how far you’ve strayed,
    from Dirksen’s party

  7. - Rich Miller - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 12:52 pm:

I just got flowers delivered to me about 20 minutes ago.

Nobody has ever sent flowers to me unless I was in the hospital. lol

    Life is good.

    Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹

  8. - Ron Burgundy - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 12:54 pm:

To IL pols of a greedy nature:

    Roses are red
    Violets are blue
    The guy in the diaper
    Has a subpoena for you

  9. - Thomas Paine - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 12:55 pm:

    Marigolds are orange,
    Irises are purple.
    Nothing rhymes with Capitolfax,
    [Insert unrelated political jab here.]

  10. - Cheryl44 - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 12:56 pm:

    Dear Jeanne Ives,
Roses are red, violets are blue,
No one will ever elect you.

  11. - Tom Collins - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:00 pm:

    Roses are red
    Illinois voted blue
    If the corruption don’t stop
    I’ll be saying ‘adieu’

  12. - JoanP - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:01 pm:

    Roses are red,
    Violets are blue.
I’m a fan of Rich Miller
    and his commenters, too.
(Even when I disagree with them.)

  13. - Grandson of Man - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:02 pm:

    To the ILGOP:

    Roses are red
    Violets are blue
    Constantly attacking Madigan
    Has been terrible for you

  14. - Cheryl44 - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:04 pm:

Speaking of holidays, Happy Birthday Mr. Frederick Douglass. I hope we’re closer to re-naming a park after you.

  15. - Responsa - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:05 pm:

    2 cool 2 b 4gotten

Think of this as one of those little heart shaped candies with a message written on it like we all used to trade at grade school. This one is dedicated to Mike Madigan

  16. - South of Sherman - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:06 pm:

Does the GOP poem really read: “And this November we’ll prove we’re through”?

    Is that a Freudian slip?

[Sent again because of previous inadvertent banned punctuation.]

  17. - Oak Parker - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:07 pm:

In 2012, Joe Berrios’ opponent for Committeeman, Alonso Zaragoza, put an ad in the Sun Times that said

    Happy V-day Uncle Joe,
Thank you for the jobs and promotions.
We couldn’t have gotten them without you.
    With love, the Berrios family

    https://www.huffpost.com/entry/joe-berrios-cook-county-a_n_1280138

Alonso didn’t win but he got a lot of free media from the story

  18. - Oak Parker - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:08 pm:

Rich, those flowers were for Oscar

  19. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:08 pm:

    Roses are Red
    Violets are Blue

    I don’t miss the RaunerS
    But miss Slip and Sue

  20. - Oak Parker - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:10 pm:

    Roses are Red
    Violets are Violet
    JB saved some big bucks
    By pulling out his toilet

  21. - Responsa - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:11 pm:

Cheryl 44’s comment made me think of this book: Douglass’ Women by Jewell Parker Rhodes. Worth a read for anyone who wants a more personal view of Frederick Douglass’ complex and very interesting life.

  22. - Groucho - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:12 pm:

    Roses are red
    Violets are blue
    most poems rhyme
    but mine don’t

  23. - Lt Guv - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:17 pm:

Rich, you would delete any poem I would address to Ives

  24. - A Guy - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:19 pm:

    Roses are many colors,
    Violets, just one,
    Illinois, the state I love
    has ceased to be fun.

  25. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:21 pm:

My ode today is to “Lucky Pierre”
    The commenter we know, extraordinaire

Fun it has been jousting in word
Even if your arguments are sometime absurd

We agreed that a student was someone to cheer
It was groundbreaking, I shed a tear

New leaders are in the points still the same
Voters have spoken they placed some of the blame

Comic chops you show, they make me snicker
Others bring a laugh, you’re quite the quipper

Happy Valentines Day, wish you the best
Good tidings too, and all of the rest

  26. - revvedup - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:22 pm:

Rich in the hospital? What is it? It’s a big building with patients, but that’s not important now. Get well soon, Illinois and Oscar need you.
And as seen online (with a photo of a Doberman holding a red rose in mouth) “Roses are red. I love you. The End.” :)

  27. - Bernie Epton RIP - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:36 pm:

    Roses are red
    violets are blue
    Crime is down
A lie believed by very few

  28. - Jocko - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:45 pm:

    For MJM,

    Roses are red,
    Violets are blue,
If the feds keep on circlin’
    Michael’s ranks will be few

  29. - Streator Curmudgeon - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:47 pm:

    Oscar’s the Valentine
    we all like.
    He makes our troubles
    take a hike.

  30. - Froganon - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:49 pm:

    Roses are red
    Violets are blue
    Come November, Jeannie Ives,
    We’ll be through with you.

  31. - Bourbon Street - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:50 pm:

    To SafeSpeed:

    Stoplights are red,
    SafeSpeed is blue
    Because it looks as if
    Its business is through

  32. - Wensicia - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:50 pm:

    Roses are red
    Sunflowers are gold
    I’ll send warm thoughts
    Because we’re too cold

  33. - SpfdNewb - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:51 pm:

    To Illinois voters:

    Roses are red,
    violets are blue,
    Illinois GOP,
    is bad for you.

  34. - train111 - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 1:52 pm:

    Roses are red
    Violets are blue
    Jeanne Ives is a nut
    Half her party is too.

  35. - Responsa - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 2:01 pm:

    Bulls are Red
    Cubbies are Blue
    Thank goodness Chicago has
    The White Sox, too.

  36. - Rudy’s teeth - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 2:06 pm:

    Roses are red
    Illinois is blue
    Jeannie Ives
    It must hurt
    To be you.
    You resemble Miss Warren
    Ranting, waving, and flailing.
    She sinks in the polls
    And so do you.

  37. - Responsa - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 2:36 pm:

A bright red helicopter has been low buzzing my neighborhood for over 10 minutes. Wish I knew if it is for an emergency or if somebody’s buzzing their spouse or sig other for valentines day.

  38. - Reality - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 2:38 pm:

    Dear Illinois,
    Roses are red
    Violets are blue
    When banks cut you off
    Its bankruptcy for you

  39. - pool boy - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 2:47 pm:

    Grass is green
    Pools are blue
    Can’t wait for Spring
    How about you?

  40. - Louis G Atsaves - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 2:55 pm:

    Roses are red,
    Violets are blue,
    More taxes and spending,
    For Illinois and you.

  41. - dbk - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 2:57 pm:

    To our Governor

    Roses are red
    Violets are blue
    DCFS is in trouble
    We’re paying attention
    And so should you.

  42. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 3:11 pm:

A valentines poem to the Raunerites
Destruction and pain the voters disliked

You followed a couple that misled their goals
Now it’s all over you lost at the polls

Fear not you can change though beat to the pulpa
Voters will forgive say a true mea culpa

Too far you did venture, too far said the people
You hoped for followers you wanted sheeple

So this poem for you I hope you find helpful
If your do half of this I’ll come back if you’re not careful

  43. - Jibba - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 3:31 pm:

    Safespeed light is red
    politicians are blue.
    The feds got some
    and they’re coming for you

  44. - dogonsheffield - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 3:35 pm:

I pronounced the last word as “thruff” because my brain was trying to make it rhyme

  45. - lakeside - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 3:56 pm:

    Roses are red,
    Violets are blue,
    So many candidates and brands,
Don’t know how the meter of this poem works and it’s painful.

  46. - Walleye Soup - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 4:07 pm:

    Roses are Red
    Potatoes are Browner
    What would Oswego Willy do
    if he couldn’t blame Rauner

  47. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 4:23 pm:

To Jim Oberweis I write you this poem
Known as the milk man, I’m sure we all know him

Helicopters and walls you want Illinois great
You think it’s for love still it’s peddled hate

Rebranding ice cream seems rather easy
Trying to hide your beliefs that is rather sleazy

Purity and perfection your mantra to party
You think that this helps you think you’re a smarty

Good luck as you run for the umpteenth time
As you talk as you bellow some uneasy slime

Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your family
Some based in Florida going full shammy
