Rate the new Illinois Rising Action ad

Monday, Aug 3, 2020 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Press release…

Illinois Rising Action launched a new television and digital ad calling for Governor Pritzker to take immediate action on ethics reforms. Amid the bribery investigations into Speaker Madigan and the ongoing investigation into Governor Pritzker’s property tax scheme, it has never been clearer that ethics reforms are needed.

“When it comes to standing up against corruption, Governor Pritzker chooses political rhetoric over real action on much-needed ethics reforms,” said Kayleen Carlson, executive director of Illinois Rising Action. “Governor Pritzker continues to protect his political ally, Mike Madigan, by refusing to call for a special session to address ethics reforms even as Madigan and Pritzker himself are under federal investigation. The time has come to put an end to the cronyism and corruption that has plagued Springfield for decades.”

* I have no info on a broadcast purchase, if any, but Comcast reports Illinois Rising Action is spending $102,530 on this ad over the next week in Chicago and $8,706 in the Champaign/Springfield/Decatur zone

    It’s a “C-“, at best on a great day with people new to Illinois.

    Also, this… Rich’s column, the cite.

    ===…are totally focused on things like crime, unemployment benefits and navigating through everything else wrought by the pandemic. In other words, they’re preoccupied with life during particularly hard times and just don’t care about MJM.===

    Who *exactly* do they hope to sway… when the $50 million message (um, any time Pritzker folks, where are your ads??) explains 97% won’t see an increase, hitting the magic number to defeat the CA… this ad is a waste of breath.

    The Raunerites grifting off the monies for this ad?

    Priceless.

    Really? How so?

    This ad? “Ok”.

    Hasn’t the Pritzker “property tax scheme” already been thoroughly investigated? He got his assessment lowered while the building was gutted and being renovated. Jeez….

    More blah, blah, blah. Illinois Rising needs to spend its money on something tangible, like more of those Pritzker Sucks signs that are so effective.

    I believe they call this “beating a dead horse”.

    Sorry Willy. Madigan a festering wound for the Guv. He gets high marks from most, me included, for his job so far- but he needs to do something about this issue or he’s going to be tagged as corrupt, which he is not. What happens when Com Ed execs and McClain get indicted?

    So far, polling, even specifically to the pandemic, is good for the governor.

    The question remains;

    Who exactly, in a pandemic, with record unemployment, a horrible IDES response, folks possibly being homeless or foreclosed upon… “Madigan”, already baked in the math, who are these new people who will say;

    “The Governor is going great with the pandemic, some things not so great, but *now*, it’s Madigan”?

    My biggest thing is, until 60 House members jump, the Raunerite thoughts to corruption, hmm.

    Willy- if you don’t appreciate the damage done to his fair tax push when he is dragged into the universe of Illinois corruption then not much else to say. The Achilles heel on fair tax is we don’t trust Madigan/Springfield.

    It’s still polling positively.

    If you have polling besides your gut, share…

    Don’t know what polls you’re reading. Must be the super secret ones. But point is,again, the weakness for the Guv is voters don’t trust Springfield on this issue. If Guv thrown into Madigan corruption orbit, he won’t be an effective advocate for what is seen by many as a tax increase.

    Isn’t Madigan already baked in all things?

    You need to show, where are these 5-8% that will not support the fair tax “because Madigan”. Where are they?

    A March 3rd poll? Are u kidding me! That’s your support. Pre pandemic. Pre everything. Do better

  18. - Boone's is Back - Monday, Aug 3, 20 @ 11:56 am:

    I think the message is overly simplified and devoid of the nuances behind the investigation, but hey that’s politics right?

    In terms of driving a message home the ad does just that. It also links the visuals to their target of ire and provides a visceral, emotional reaction for the viewer. I give it an A-.

  19. - radio flyer - Monday, Aug 3, 20 @ 12:07 pm:

    What I like about this ad is its use of real TV clips and newspaper headlines/quotes for added credibility.

    With respect,

    Show your poll, and further, the thought that people are unemployed, maybe losing their apartment or house foreclosed, maybe with medical issues in a family… the main concern for people is… “Madigan”?

    Ok. Show your work.

    If anything, the monetary divide of people has become more obvious by who is working, needs to work, needs to risk their lives, and who is fortunate enough that the worries are less to them. The pandemic has made economic classes more clear. “Why help the 3%?”

    Respectfully.

  22. - 19th Ward Guy - Monday, Aug 3, 20 @ 1:15 pm:

    Wait. Willy cites a poll from 4 months ago and I’m the villain? I’ll self check. Goodbye

  23. - HenryHorner - Monday, Aug 3, 20 @ 2:45 pm:

    Madigan requested Pritzker place Carrie Zalewski’s appointment as head of the ICC at Madigan’s recommendation, which Pritzker defends. Pat Quinn said she should be placed in another position. Father in-law and husband smell of Madigan stench.
