Today’s quotable

Monday, Jul 22, 2024 - Posted by Rich Miller

* From the New York Times

A correction was made on July 21, 2024:

An earlier version of this article misstated the state for which JB Pritzker is the governor. He is the governor of Illinois, not Ohio.

Oopsie.

I’m fairness to the grey lady, both of those states are west of the Hudson River. It’s easy to confuse things when you never leave mid-town Manhattan.

Haven’t had a paper subscription in years.

I miss them, but this is the reason why. The typos I see in news stories today make me cringe. My sixth grade English teacher wouldn’t abide them.

  5. - Dave Dahl - Monday, Jul 22, 24 @ 11:25 am:

It’s one of those flyover states …

  6. - Lurker - Monday, Jul 22, 24 @ 11:28 am:

I read this in the original. Told my wife that he is so unknown nationally that they don’t know he is from Illinois. When we reopened the article, we saw this correction.

  7. - JoanP - Monday, Jul 22, 24 @ 11:36 am:

    Ohio should be so lucky.

  8. - Just Another Anon - Monday, Jul 22, 24 @ 11:37 am:

    Skibidi Illinois?

  9. - DuPage Saint - Monday, Jul 22, 24 @ 11:49 am:

They knew he lives in Chicago so of course Ohio

  10. - H-W - Monday, Jul 22, 24 @ 11:49 am:

    Cub reporter?

I think the quote of the day should be the vitriol that US Representative Mary Miller spewed upon learning that Mr. Biden turned down the nomination. We should never forget hate speech by people in positions of enormous power. It should define them for history.

  11. - Joe Biden Playing Golf - Monday, Jul 22, 24 @ 11:53 am:

    that is really something…

Wire Points: Double Dipping? Pritzker denies also being governor of Ohio.

  13. - TJ - Monday, Jul 22, 24 @ 12:03 pm:

Knowing the New York Times, they’ll find a way to blame Biden for that typo.

  14. - Levois - Monday, Jul 22, 24 @ 12:13 pm:

Now wait, Illinois is a long way from Ohio. Both Midwestern states but vastly different. How does one get them confused?

  15. - New Day - Monday, Jul 22, 24 @ 12:17 pm:

“Wire Points: Double Dipping? Pritzker denies also being governor of Ohio.”

    Funny stuff. Very funny.

  16. - Donnie Elgin - Monday, Jul 22, 24 @ 12:24 pm:

Geography is hard - perhaps they were confused

Ohio is a village in Bureau County, Illinois, United States. The population was 465 at the 2020 census.[2] It is part of the Ottawa Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Remember fondly the days when the newspaper landed on the porch steps.

Visited the Newberry Library in Chicago where an exhibit features Mike Royko. From the exhibit…Windy City Journalists. Bad, Good, Very Good, Outstanding and Mike Royko from JimArnholz, Albuquerque Journal, January, 1983.

Visited the bookstore to purchase several books by Royko. Prefer turning pages than reading a screen…with the exception of Cap Fax.

  18. - Thinking - Monday, Jul 22, 24 @ 2:05 pm:

Thanks Ohio for giving us JD, not JB.

  19. - Huh? - Monday, Jul 22, 24 @ 2:08 pm:

“How does one get them confused?”

They both have the Ohio River along their southern borders?

  20. - Anyone Remember - Monday, Jul 22, 24 @ 2:12 pm:

NYT continuing the same level of accuracy set by Jeff Gerth in the 1990s.

I’m tellin’ ya, we coulda merged if it weren’t for that pesky Indiana between us.
