Rep. Sullivan should understand that Palos Heights is a Republican area, with a conservative tilt, that happens to be represented by various Democrats. It has moved less GOP and more Dem over the years, but it in no way can be termed “Dem Country.” I was raised in the town and have run dozens of campaigns in Palos Heights and / or in Districts that encompassed all or part of the Town.
@DriveByDopiness - someone took a picture of my sign. I smiled because I was sure the black helicopters and the NSA Satellites were watching. #IngoranceIsDopiness
Louis, you should also note that Palos Heights was represented by Democratic State House member (s) Terry Steczo & Maggie Crotty with a brief interlude of GOP Rep Jack O’Connor from ‘95-’97 and a Democratic Congressman (Bill Lipinski) back in the 1990’s under a Republican drawn map.
Dave is correct - Palos Heights is heavily Republican (much more so than Mundelein nowadays), but is drawn into gerrymandered districts with the South side of Chicago.
Adding to @Dave Fako’s comment…I ran that half marathon yesterday too and saw that woman standing at the end of a long driveway from a million dollar home on a wooded lot. Doubt she’s a Dem. All the same, she wins the award for best sign on the race route.
The fact that a GOP leader would concede Palos Heights as “Dem Country” is revealing.
They’ve been playing defense so long, they don’t see opportunities for offense. If you can’t flip the folks who voted for Reagan and Lipinski, you’ve got trouble.
===…Democratic Congressman (Bill Lipinski) back in the 1990’s under a Republican drawn map.===
That Lipinski. Such a liberal. Probably as far Left as possible.
Again, it’s like being a Victim doesn’t allow people to see that candidates that “represent” their district best, will win, irregardless of party affiliation.
Fox News will tell ya different…but that doesn’t make it true.
She doesn’t deserve the name calling, OW. She is entitled to her opinion. An awful lot of Illinoisans agree with her. Don’t make her into something she is not.
VM, if “cuteness” was a criterion for blog commenters, many of us would have been voted off the island a long time ago. Besides, isn’t your comment a bit sexist?
- Upon Further Review - Monday, May 5, 14 @ 10:51 am:
I attended a fundraising event for disabled veterans who are preparing to participate in wheelchair Olympic games. I wish I had such a sign on hand.
She is cute, she is funny and she isn’t making a statement blatantly original or controversial. She is smiling and having a good time. She is probably cheering everyone as they ran, walked or limped by.
She is underserving of the mean comments and insults.
Cuteness is a factor in life. My cuteness has always been a huge limiting factor in my life. Most people are unable to see beyond my physical attributes and respect my arguments as a result. Really ugly people hate me on sight.
Ask Rob Lowe how hard it is to get ahead with faces like ours.
FYI - Palos Heights is composed roughly half of precincts in Palos (west of Harlem) and Worth Townships (east of Harlem). But my point stands that this is not Dem Country, even though a lot of south side Democrats have moved to it over the last 20+ years.
I fully remember Pat O’Malley - he defeated John McNamara in 1992. I was on the Steczo race that same year.
My point is that a GOP Rep couldn’t even recognize a GOP area. Kbowing the minute details of population migrations is a very useful in understanding the political instincts of the voters and knowing how to recruit a candidate, communicate with the voters and win.
“I’m angry. I’m angry! Angry, angry…ANGRY! It’s my Botox I got when I went to Beverly Hills that makes my face smile like this. The government is bad.”

@Fako, relax a bit here. I am sorry I did not have my super duper computer to run an analysis of the voting history of a place I have visited once. ‘Dem Country’ should have been ‘Represented by Dems’. Four speakers were introduced prior to the race. 75% were dems. Next time I run 13 miles I will be more careful with my off the cuff analysis.
@Dee Lay, Yes the race is underrated. Great run through the forest preserve. You can go fast. Of course you have to be built more like a cheetah and less like an ox. Ha
Rep Sullivan - not criticizing, just noting things. BTW, in addition to running an IL based political consulting firm that works nationally, I also organize sports / running events, so yes Mel and his Team at Running for Kicks in Palos Heights do a good job on that event.
So as a gesture of good will Rep Sullivan, you may have a free entry to the race I organize on May 10 - The Citgo Quarryman Challenge 10 Mile & 5K held in Lemont (home of Sen Rodagno). Its the hilliest, most challenging running race in the Chicago area.
“The state?! You’re going to try to fix the state? HAHAHAHAHA! You’re a funny guy.” - Homeless guy in Joliet this weekend as he tried to hit me up for money
All good buddy. And yes being in the political environment in Illinois I do know Fako & Associates. Sometimes I would rather not(ha). As for the race, unfortunately Mrs. Half Marathon has me booked on the 10th. I love a challenge so if you remember let me know for next year. I can bring a crew of runners.
Ever since he was elected Fremont assessor in 1993, I don’t think Ed Sullivan has held a job other than as an elected government official.
Am I the only one who detects the irony?===
The irony of what? The Fremont Township Assessor’s office is one of the best run, most efficient assessor’s offices in the state. Very few Assessor’s offices produce the legal, statistical values that we do. You know this because you have been attacking me for more than a decade. Are you saying it is my fault that I have not been able to right the good ship Illinois from the minority party?
