Club for Growth Action, a political arm of the Club for Growth, announced the release of a 30-second television ad calling for the election of Kyle McCarter in the 15th congressional district of Illinois. It will begin airing tomorrow on broadcast and cable markets throughout the district.
“Twenty years in Washington has a way of turning some Republicans into Establishment sell-outs who represent their party leaders better than their constituents back home,” said Club for Growth president David McIntosh. “Years ago, John Shimkus became a reliable vote for debt-busting spending bills and the big-government agenda of Washington Republicans.
“Club for Growth PAC has endorsed Kyle McCarter, a successful businessman who fought for pension reform in the State Senate and against higher property taxes. McCarter is committed to fighting for pro-growth policies that will limit the size and scope of the federal bureaucracy.”
Note: John Shimkus has a lifetime score of 66% and a 2014 score of 34% on the Club for Growth Scorecard that tracks how members of Congress vote on economic legislation.
McCarter’s best hope is that the Presidential primary impacts this race.
If Trump is rolling strong into Illinois, Trump’s voters are likely to pull the lever for McCarter as well.
Other than that, I don’t see Senator McCarter pulling this one out.

I don’t see it either, but my friends in the district — who are Shimkus supporters — insist there’s something going on. Shimkus has got no ground game, and the McCarter folks are coordinating the the Tea Party/anti-Mark Kirk guys for signs, etc. They swear that Shimkus has real trouble. Not saying I buy it, but that’s what I’m hearing (and I don’t like it.)
HE’S ONE OF THE MOST LIBERAL REPUBLICANS IN CONGRESS.
I haven’t laughed this hard in quite some time. Sort of like BHO trying to describe how politically incorrect Pate Phillip was. Just inexplicably laughable.
I’m in McCarter’s district and he has done nothing from day one to earn his place as a legislator. In office by default election by district county chairmen when Senator Watson retired. Nothing but weak rhetoric. A weak politician with not much of a political resume.
I’ve been waiting for the first of these salvos to the red meat base. Milder than what I might have expected. Yet we are a month away from the Primary.
As I suggested before when commenting on this race - there is more to come.
“HE’S ONE OF THE MOST LIBERAL REPUBLICANS IN CONGRESS.” Laughable, untruthful and deceptive on many levels.
McCarter may not have raised much money, but someone is paying for some fairly large campaign signs I have seen go up in the last week in my part of his district. I was talking with one of his supporters earlier today (who has placed one of those signs on his property) but in my professional capacity, so I just did my job without political comment. This person’s major complaint today was that everyone is making too much money…and it’s one of the things ruining the country. Sheesh.
