Left and right wings agree on messaging

* Tuesday…
The Chicago Teachers Union issued a statement on Monday that again accused Emanuel and CPS of playing politics instead of turning to solutions to help schools such as raising taxes.
“The mayor behaving as if he has zero solutions is incredibly irresponsible,” CTU President Karen Lewis said in the statement. “Rahm wants us to let him off the hook for under-funding our schools and instead wait for the Bad Bargain to pass the Senate or Rauner’s cold, cold heart to melt and provide fair funds.”
* Wednesday…
After the Senate Democrat and Republican leaders announced a suspension of work on the “Grand Bargain” budget deal, state Sen. Kyle McCarter, R-Lebanon, released this statement:
“Ding-dong the bad bargain is dead.”
Emphasis added.
- Huh? - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 10:07 am:
“Ding-dong the bad bargain is dead.”
This statement is a clear demonstration of the lack of leadership from an elected official more interested in posturing than solving the problems that beset the State.

I wouldn’t consider CTU (a union designed to look out fit their own best interest, as all labor union do) a good example as a group looking for common ground.
I wouldn’t consider Mr. McCarter a good example of a Senate member that looks for compromise within good governing.
These two examples are two examples where they see compromise in governing is bad… unless getting all they wavy is considered compromise.

It’s hard to maintain any hope in this at all.
- Finally Out - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 10:12 am:
Very dignified and professional Mr. McCarter. I’ll bet your constituents are proud of you.
- Anony - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 10:13 am:
I’m sure McCarter will get a cookie from the teacher for that quote.
- phocion - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 10:15 am:
Dear Sen. McCarter,
Grow up and do your job.
- Honeybear - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 10:17 am:
This is Ragnarok folks.
The Raunerites are einherjar. They’ve longed for this battle with the Jotuns of Labor
Folks this doesn’t turn out for anyone
It will be the same for our state
- Pundent - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 10:17 am:
We can only conclude from McCarter’s juvenile comment that continuing to do nothing is better than agreeing to the “bad bargain”. He need to elaborate and defend that position beyond offering up childish remarks.
- Cassandra - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 10:17 am:
Well, she has a point. There is a lot of wealth in Chicago. And they could raise their property taxes again without reaching the rates of many neighboring towns. But that might not help Mayor Rahm’s re-election effort.
- So tired of political hacks - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 10:18 am:
Hopefully republican control of the governorship gone also.
- zatoichi - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 10:21 am:
Sen McCarter, where have you outlined your budget ideas in writting so they can be reviewed?
- Riley - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 10:31 am:
When the extremists on both sides are against it, sign me up.
- Jocko - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 10:32 am:
==I have a number of ideas how to do that and I have people from the other side of the aisle working with me to do this.==
If Kyle was any more vague, he’d be a 14 year old telling me about his day in school.
- @MisterJayEm - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 10:41 am:
Maybe there was a missing comma, and the message was actually to Kyle McCarter, i.e. “Ding-dong, the bad bargain is dead.”

Typical McCarter. He readily slams compromise or attempts at a deal. His constituents might be surprised at the cuts they would need to endure if McCarter had his way. As one of his constituents (and I am embarrassed to admit that), I am looking forward to him leaving the Senate and getting someone who will represent the District better.
- illini - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 11:20 am:
I am so incredibly proud of the dignity, decorum, thoughtfulness, compassion and commitment that my Senator exemplifies on a daily basis./s
- titan - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 11:25 am:
Often times when both extremes dislike a deal 9and everyone in the middle is equally dissatisfied), it means it is a good deal (in the sense of being the best deal possible at the time).

The extremists are winning. Yay?
- wordslinger - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 12:15 pm:
McCarter’s comment begs the question:
Scarecrow, Tin Man or Cowardly Lion?
Defintely not a munchkin.
- Rabid - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 2:48 pm:
Proud of throwing a bucket of water on his leader, watch out for that house it don’t hit your shoes
- blue dog dem - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:25 pm:
Are they making Ding-Dongs in Mexico too?
- NorthsideNoMore - Friday, Mar 3, 17 @ 7:28 am:
