Gidwitz

In a decision that had been rumored for months, Chicago businessman Ronald Gidwitz is forming an exploratory committee, the first formal step toward a possible race for governor in 2006.
“Our children are not getting the education they need. Our jobs and doctors are leaving the state,†says Mr. Gidwitz in a statement posted on his new web site: ron2006.com. “I know we can do better. That’s why I’m considering a run to represent you—all of Illinois—as your Republican governor.â€

This guy has the personal appeal and charisma of a big lump of coal. His education advocacy, philanthropy and business successes are admirable - but he has all the makings just another rich guy with too much time on his hands to run for office. Even if he is the only moderate to run, I still suspect he won’t exceeed 10% in the primary.
He may try to emulate Blair Hull’s early surge, but without the pledge to spend huge money as Hull did - nobody’s going to jump on board. Why would they?
Maybe Gidwitz can hire Jason Erkes too.

This is sort of like the George Pataki for President movement; An answer for a question that no one has asked.
