Question of the day
Tuesday, Apr 12, 2005 - Posted by Rich Miller Considering what happened in the ‘04 Senate primary, does Comptroller Dan Hynes get a serious general election opponent next year? If not, why not, and if so, who do you think that might be?

Hard to imagine he could run into serious opposition. I think publicity between him and the gov about the flu vaccinations gives him all sorts of street cred

Yes, I think someone can challenge Hynes. However, I think Hynes learned from the Senate race that nothing is a given in politics. He is very likable and I believe he gets re-elected no matter who steps up to the line. But, ya just never know…I am little surprised I haven’t heard anything (in the news, anyway) about any possible challengers.

I say the GOP fields a 3rd, 4th or 5th round draft pick against Hynes just to keep him busy, much like they’ll do with The One and Only Tumbler.
Not enough money to go around to fund these lower tier races if they want to seriously challenge the Gov . . .

Nope, nope, nope.
Hynes gets no opponent, even though he offends holy mother church with the stem cell gambit.
Amd then in the general, I look for a potent newcomer, say Ruth Munson to really turn up the heat.

I find it amazing that our ‘gov’ is now considering adding more gaming positions for the casinos - if my memory serves me correctly, isn’t this what the casinos wanted to do BEFORE he imposed the 70% tax hike? I can’t begin to tell you how stupid I think the ‘gov’ is…..can we get someone into this office who actually KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING?????????

No, as a comptroller, Hynes is playing to his strength, unlike the cosmic event of 2004. He will crush anyone running against him in the gen. His only fear is if Blago has scandal issues that pulls everyone down.

Yes, he gets an opponent. No one outside of Springfield can even tell you who he is.
- Anonymous - Tuesday, Apr 12, 05 @ 10:53 am:
Opposition? Who cares? The Comptroller’s Office is a poltical dead end. Just ask Governors Bakalis and Netsch or Senator Didrickson.
- reddbyrd - Tuesday, Apr 12, 05 @ 11:13 am:
I am shocked ANON forgot Gov. Lindberg is his listing of who some might not see the Comptroller’s Office as the springboard to the future.
- Anonymous - Tuesday, Apr 12, 05 @ 5:47 pm:
Hynes could be challenged by moderate Republican Greg Sparrow (the former Mayor of DeKalb for 20 of the past 24 years)
- Anonymous - Tuesday, Apr 12, 05 @ 6:56 pm:
The Repulicrat RINO Combine will not put up anybody serious against Hynes.
