I guess everyone can start a blog if they want but the real issue is will anyone care. The answer is of course no one cares. Once again another decent, relatively intelligent but innocuos person trading off the reputation of a famous relative.
One final comment (coming from a lifelong Republican), Sheila’s late father represents the “Gold Standard” of politicians. He was totally dedicated to the people of Illinois whom he served with distinction.
I think suggesting that starting a blog is “trading off the name of a famous relative” is more than a little harsh (in spite of cushioning it with “decent” and “relatively intelligent”).
Rich’s blog has done a nice job of informing people of other local political blogs in IL (most initiated by John and Joan Q. Public). Why not another (and why not a Southern IL voice)?
You folks are brutal. Sheila Simon is an intellegent and caring person in her own right. I think it is wonderful that she has an informative blog for her constituency. There is a world south of I-80 and it is pretty darn nice. Maybe you should get out of the city limits and smell the roses.
I agree with the anonymous commentor who says the the State south of I80 is pretty darn nice. I agree with you enough that I’ve chosen to live in central-Illinois for the last 30 years. Chicago is a world class city but not somewhere I choose to live anymore. Taxes are too high, traffic congestion is a nightmare and the worst governor Illinois has ever had has sullied the reputation of my beloved north side.
I looked all over her blog and I can’t find the section that highlights all of her outstanding qualifications to be a member of the Illinois Gaming Board. Can anyone help me find it?
Does the blog explain why she is trying to get special legislation passed so she can be on the Gaming Board without giving up her Carbondale City Council seat?
In other words, an exception to the guv’s ethics laws?

do you have to start a blog if you are on the Gaming Board?
by the way, who’ll get the dormant 10th license now that hearings have reopened?

Should we care if Sheila Simon has a blog?

She should explain why she would go along with the Gov. and change the law so she can be on the Gambling Board.
Should we care if Sheila Simon has a blog?
No, anyone can have one.

Why would the state allow Ms. Simon to regulate a business she has never frequented or approved of?
