Oberweis came to my college a few days ago to speak and push his gubernatorial campaign. Of course, he gave out free ice cream to us hungry college students.
The guy definitely seemed all about sticking it to the teachers’ unions when he spoke here. He seemed friendly enough, but some of the stuff he said just put me off.
College campus and student seems like a great place to rail on teacher’s unions. Hope he got around to criticizing our bloated Pell Grant system and calling for reinstituting the draft. Geesh.
His ranting against unions was well received by the bunch there becuase the thing was put on by the College Republicans and the Society of Conservative Students.
The whole “run the state like a business” he loves is a good thing in theory but a bad thing in practice, in my mind. You can’t run the state of Illinois like an ice cream shop.

If you ran an ice cream shop like Illinois, an ice cream cone would cost $50, because you’d have to pay the ice cream scooper a pension.

Maybe the ice cream scooper deserves a pension if that’s their career.

Good Lord…last time I heard politicians using that logic, I got so excited I spilled New Coke all over my acid-washed denim jacket.

Do you *really* think ‘ice cream scooper’ is a legitimate career path?
This is the kind of bureacrathink that is causing the wheels to fall off.
And for those of you who don’t know, NO…ice cream scooper is not a valid career path (despite with the ice creamscooper’s union says)
