Peraica’s new TV ad

Wednesday, Oct 18, 2006 - Posted by Rich Miller

I had heard that Tony Peraica’s new television ad was powerful. Illiterate voters might have a tough time with it, but other than that, tell us what you think

And if you’re wondering when Stroger will begin airing TV ads, Carol Marin provided us with this tidbit today:

…Stroger last week reportedly told a roomful of North Side Democratic committeemen that he’s running out of money, only has about $400,000 on hand, and needs at least $200,000 more to launch some TV ads in the final week before the election…

    Go get ‘em Tony!!!

  2. - Anon-the-bus - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 11:03 am:

With Tony, it’s too little too late. He is going to be competing for attention on TV while Blago/Judy, McSweeny/Bean, Duckworth/Roskum battle for the airways. This ad will be mainly lost on voters who haven’t made up their minds.

  3. - Burbs - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 11:03 am:

    GREAT commercial!!!

  4. - the Other Anonymous - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 11:06 am:

Is that the sound of a jail cell closing at the end?

That is one powerful ad. But, I did my part in early voting today: I wrote in Claypool.

  5. - Reddbyrd - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 11:08 am:

Incredibly dumb…He needs to tell people about himself and use a picture other than that bad palm card look
60 sec spots don’t cut it….except for his time buyers, they clean up!
If people were willing to read that much graphics and visual arts pros would be out of work.

  6. - Rick - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 11:09 am:

    Powerful!

  7. - Anon Pronon - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 11:12 am:

    Todd Stroger 55%
    Tony Periaca 45%

  8. - Bluefish - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 11:15 am:

The ad drives home the message. The background music really adds to the negative feeling he wants you to have for Stroger.

And now, with less than three weeks left Toddler suddenly realizes he needs money for TV? What happened to daddy’s bankroll?

  9. - Antioch Blu - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 11:23 am:

Anyone who says this ad is not powerfull and hits directly at the issues in this campaign is nuts. This is a great ad. People will watch this ad, regardless of what other ads are on as it is different, does not have a bunch of distorted photos and the music ties in with the season perfectly. Since I noticed a prediction, here is mine:

    Periaca 59%
    Stroger 41%

    Take it to the bank.

  10. - Ashur Odishoo - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 11:27 am:

The black/white with foreboding music is powerful. It will be noticed in the clutter of other negative ads.

I can’t wait to see Todd’s attempt. It will either be a right-wing negative or black-panic ad.

I think the Stroger campaign is in panic so I suspect they will try to make the race about race.

  11. - Rooty Tooty - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 11:33 am:

The add could have been better if they cut about four headlines and gave people about 2-3 seconds more to read each headline. If people can’t get through a couple of headlines, they give up on the commercial. And it’s important that they read the whole quote and who said it.

That being said, if you can read fast enough, the quotes are quite damning. I think Tony has a real shot, scary as that sounds, and Todd’s backers refuse to see reality.

  12. - Bubs - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 11:34 am:

    Good ad.

Stroger’s only hope is the Machine vote. But I hear City and County employees will NOT be getting their routine Election Day “vacations,” thanks to the Feds. Stroger has serious problems if that is the case.

He has no money because Democratic Ward Committeemen have to live in this County after the election. The prospect of a incompetent Todd Stoger Administration run by his Daddy’s corrupt hacks frightens even them. They will take a pass on this one, and come at Peraica with a competent candidate next time around.

  13. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 11:35 am:

Way too long to hold anyones attention. A 30 second spot would have been much better. And no need to get into the fed stuff. The quotes about Todd are bad enough.

  14. - Carl Nyberg - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 11:41 am:

    Stroger running out of money?

If Stroger can’t raise the money he needs he deserves to lose.

Coming to the game with the advantages Stroger has, he has no excuse for not being able to raise the money he needs.

  15. - Squideshi - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 11:41 am:

Only about $400,000? A Green Party candiate could win 10 elections with that much money.

  16. - Goodbye Napoleon - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 11:52 am:

I thought it was a good ad. He needs to do something different to stand out from the other ads that are out there. That ad is good enough to get him to lose by only 3 points instead of 6.

  17. - Objective Dem - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 12:00 pm:

This would be more effective as a print ad. People watching tv want pictures not words. The quotes are strong, but not interesting enough to keep a viewer from changing the station, particularly after the first time they viewed it.

I agree with the point that it would be better to edit down the number of quotes and play them longer.

I also didn’t like the fact that it was all negative and never provided a positive reason for voting for Peraica. If it had endorsements from the major papers for him it would be more meaningful.

I think the average swing voter is aware of the problems with Stroger. The key is motivating them to vote for Peraica, rather than just sitting out the race.

  18. - leigh - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 12:01 pm:

Excellent Ad. Judy should borrow it.

  19. - Yellow Dog Democrat - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 12:01 pm:

It’s a good ad. It has one thing that alot of other ads don’t — parsability. People are channel changers. They don’t watch commercials beginning to end. If you’re swithcing channels and you come in on the middle of what looks like a political ad, you keep going. Even if you do stay, if you missed the beginning of the ad, you probably missed the point of the narrative.

I think folks will take their finger off the button when they hit this ad, because of the background track. I think no matter when they come in on the ad, they get the point. And the point is a strong one, which won’t impact Peraica’s negatives much because he’s got quotes from everybody else saying the caustic stuff.

Also, I think Peraica will use this ad as a fundraising tool. There are people who will give him more money just for this, especially given recent news stories on polling in this race.

Whether you’re for Todd or against him, this is a good ad, and Stroger is going to need much more than $600,000 to respond.

  20. - anon - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 12:10 pm:

how many people are going to see his 63K worth of cable that he bought with this ad?

  21. - Bubs - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 12:12 pm:

Of course, the Dems’ other option is to try and steal the election at Election Central, but for anyone contemplating that course I offer two simple caveats:

    1. The Feds and GOP have already figured that out, are already watching the early voting, and will be there in droves on Nov. 7 and beyond.

    2. If you try and do it, don’t make any big plans for the next 5 to six years.

  22. - HANKSTER - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 12:13 pm:

Too boring for a 60 second spot. They should have laid those quotes over an image of Stroger, at the very least. They should have only used quotes with Stroger’s name in it and kept it to one topic, corruption, nepotism, competence ect. Could have been better thought out and more effective. Clearly it was not tested.

  23. - Wumpus - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 12:14 pm:

Squid, enough is enough. Greens do not win. Maybe they will win some day and break the 2 party system, but get over it.

    To the Dem committeemen:
You forced him down the throats of the voters, now you give him the money he needs.

  24. - Matt Leinart - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 12:15 pm:

YDD makes a good point about parsability. Depending on how often the ad is run, people will probably end up seeing the whole thing eventually even if they don’t sit through it all at once. I wonder if they wanted the ad to be 30 seconds, but just had too many quotes. They most likely cut a bunch out anyway.

How does Stroger respond? He does not have any accomplishments to run on. Tony loves guns, hates gays, will end abortion?

  25. - Bakersfield - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 12:21 pm:

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

This ad is terrible. They could have gotten the message across with half of the headlines and then the rest of the time with Tony on screen talking about how he is going to clean up county government.
Been very disappointed with the Peraica ads so far

  26. - Common Sense in Illinois - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 12:22 pm:

I think it’s a bit of overkill and tries to squeeze too many messages into a short time span…I really didn’t think I had been watching for a full minute and I found myself racing to read the source lines as well as the cutlines. That said, if resources are limited for the ad buy, then you’ve obviously got to cram as much as you can into that time.

  27. - Keep Watching - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 12:43 pm:

Keep watching the events unfolding with the Fed crackdown yesterday on corruption in the Cicero police department. Peraica of course was once joined at the hip to the now imprisoned Betty Loren Maltese. And he’s joined at the hip now to the current town president of Cicero, Larry Dominick.

Dominick of course used to be the #2 cop in Cicero under Betty Loren Maltese. Nothing’s changed in Cicero, except for a couple of promotions.

To top it off, Peraica’s campaign spokesman is also the spokesman for the town of Cicero. That’s Dan Proft of course.

I fall out of my chair laughing every time I hear Peraica called a reformer.

  28. - Garp - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 12:44 pm:

Interesting situations are taking place in this election.

Voters are fed up and sick of politics and corruption in Illinois.

Voters are fed up and sick of the Republicans controlling the Congress.

I think this means large turnout in contested Congressional elections which means trouble for Todd Stroger because he is going to get buried in the suburbs where there are contested races.

In addition to that, I don’t think his base vote is too enthralled with him and people like Danny Davis, Ike Caruthers and many others would love to run against Peraica in 4 years.

It is also good for Green party candidates as independents flock to the polls to bury the repubs but can’t stomach statewide candidates. It won’t be enough to win the Greens any elections but I am sure it will affect the vote totals and may determine who wins. I will leave it to smarter people than me to figure out whom that is.

This election might be an eye opener

  29. - Backyard Conservative - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 12:46 pm:

I think the ad is dynamite!!! Very persuasive–quotes from across the political spectrum–a crescendo of discontent with Stroger.

I like the soundtrack–resolves for Peraica.

  30. - Matt Leinart - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 12:52 pm:

“Keep Watching”– Let’s assume that everything that you are saying is 100% true. There is still nothing on Peraica there. Of the two candidates in this race who would you say could more accurately be described as a reformer? That is the problem here. We have to choose one of these two guys.

I agree with Garp, also. Say TP wins, he has to do an amazing job with tangible results to get reelected. More likely, he gets picked off by a QUALIFIED and duly elected Dem. in four years. There is no Republican apparatus in Cook to keep him in power unless he actually does a good job. Todd could be in there forever if he wins. And Todd ain’t so bright or motivated.

  31. - Way Northsider - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 12:55 pm:

Many reasons not to vote for toddler. No reason that I can see to vote for Peraica - he’s anti choice, anti gun control and anti funding stem cell research. This is one race to sit out.

  32. - Matt Leinart - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 1:12 pm:

Way Northsider: The problem with sitting this race out is that is effectively a vote for Todd. Do you think people who will benefit from maintaining the status quo are going to sit this one out? How much funding stem cell research does Cook County do? Abortion services will still be provided. There won’t be assault weapons all over Cook County that aren’t already here. Those are all valid concerns, but how about some clean forest preserves and streamlined operations at every county level. Let’s not forget what the county government is supposed to do. Sit it out if you want, that is your right. But at least write someone entertaining like Rex Grossman in. The touch screens are awesome!

  33. - Niles Township - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 1:21 pm:

One of the better political ads that I have seen in quite a while.

  34. - Tom - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 1:25 pm:

Pres. Peraica would have NOTHING to do with issues of choice, guns, gays, etc. These are smokescreens from the Stroger camp to keep lakefront libs from defecting. And what would the Cook Co. pres ever have to do with stem cell research?

This ad is brilliant but it won’t be enough. Too many Cook Democrat lemmings will reflexively vote Stroger. Others will waste their votes with Claypool write-ins. 55-45 Todd, and those who vote for him can’t say they didn’t know what they were getting afterward. Blind party/machine allegiance makes zero sense.

  35. - anne - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 1:31 pm:

most of what the county does has to do with crime and health care. why would we want anti choice tony and cicero proft to get their fingers next to any of that? stroger may need to learn some things but the peraica and proft show is dangerous.

  36. - Tom - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 1:42 pm:

“Stroger may need to learn some things”

And first-graders may need to learn some things before they enroll in college.

  37. - anne - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 1:52 pm:

Tom, I know it is upsetting to you that voters are seeing through your statement…

“Pres. Peraica would have NOTHING to do with issues of choice, guns, gays, etc. These are smokescreens from the Stroger camp to keep lakefront libs from defecting.”

I guess you want us to pay no attention to the issues. These are real issues. Dan Proft may as well be the chair of so called “pro life” central and that movement is pushing to ban contraceptives now. Peraica is anti choice, dan proft is anti
choice. they have no businesss running a hospital system.

  38. - taxmandan - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 1:55 pm:

Good ad, but as some commenters have already pointed out, if your flipping through channels you may not know who the target of the ad is. That said the music is perfect and the Claypool quote is the best.

  39. - Wumpus aka Cowboy - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 1:56 pm:

Cicero Tony vs. Chicago Todd. Cicero seems to be improving a little ethically. What Toddler needs to learn is how to appoint cronies and people from the 8th regular to jobs they are not qualified for. Then, he will be justy like daddy.

  40. - Garp - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 2:01 pm:

Is Carol Marin is trying to get Todd Stroger the sympathy vote?

  41. - Tom - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 2:04 pm:

Peraica has consistently stated he will respect the law of the land regarding abortion at Cook County Hospital. What more do you need? Even if he didn’t do you believe the other commissioners would let him get away with banning it?

Do you think if Peraica is elected there will be a proliferation of firearms in Cook County streets? Wait, they’re already there. Crime is largely a municipal issue. Weapons bans are largely done at the state level.

Real issues in this campaign regard reducing corruption and patronage, delivering Cook services more efficiently, and streamlining government. Issues Todd can’t run on because he has no plans.

With the intellectually lazy, unenthusiastic, uninspired campaign Stroger is running he doesn’t appear to want the job. Voters can make sure he gets his wish.

  42. - Keep Watching - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 2:06 pm:

Substituting the Cicero status quo for the Cook County status quo isn’t an improvement in my book.

Like the Gov’s race, there’s no good choice here.

  43. - Skeeter - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 2:10 pm:

I wasn’t too impressed with the ad itself.

During commercials my attention turns to other things, so I doubt I would even know this one was on.

It is television. You need some noise. If they had just read a couple of the headlines it would have been somewhat effective.

  44. - Tom - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 2:19 pm:

Let’s assume for one second that Peraica wanted to impose a Cicero-style government on Cook County. The commissioners from Chicago would have no part of it, and Peraica would flounder. Peraica is too smart to do that.

Peraica realizes he will need to build a coalition to pass sensible reforms. He will need support from the Democratic “Four Horsemen” to get anything done. Thus Periaca’s agenda will be limited to common sense reforms, an agenda Todd Stroger certainly wouldn’t support. If Peraica goes extremist, or tries to assemble his own patronage machine, any hopes of building a coalition would dissipate.

  45. - Charles Martel - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 2:31 pm:

Peraica is no Jim O’Grady . Too Right Wing for the Lake Front. No matter how much perfume you put on a pig…….. Stroger 55% Peraica 45%.

  46. - Bubs - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 2:35 pm:

Interesting. “Anne” is now expanding the smear to Dan Proft. Since Noonan gave that strategy away on Chicago Tonight some ten days ago, it is safe to assume that “Anne” is straight out of Stroger HQ.

You know a candidate is out of gas and ammunition when all he has left is to go after the opponent’s hired campaign consultants! LOL My goodness, how lame can they get?

As for “running a hospital system”? I recently listened to a doctor who often practices at Stroger Hospital say to my face that he has to inspect every surgical tray assigned to him there, to see if the political hacks working downstairs have bothered to remove all the blood and tissue from the previous use. Sometimes they do not.

  47. - anne - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 2:49 pm:

“Trust me, I’m anti choice and my anti choice buddies are moving against contraception… but I will respect the law of the land.” Cicero Tony, via Cicero anti choice Proft

    NO THANKS.

  48. - Reddbyrd - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 2:52 pm:

    C. Martel
Thanks for mentioning O’Grady….Along with Fast Eddie V., O’Grady helped the IL GOP what it is today —total disaster. Got to wonder where O’Grady bagman Jim Dvorak is.
My guess is right at the Fast Tony think tank.

  49. - Lakeview Voter - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 3:03 pm:

While I personally like the ad, people are right: this will NOT hold the public’s attention. Those of us who follow such things religiously will watch the entire spot so we can analyze it. But the average voter needs something more visual. Perhaps video of Toddler’s meeting with the Trib editorial board? If the public sees him struggling to answer a question they might get the same message that these white-on-black headlines are supposed to convey.

  50. - Lucky Rod - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 3:30 pm:

Great ad–if you are trying to increase African-American turnout.

  51. - Way Northsider - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 3:30 pm:

Matt - when I said I’d sit it out I didn’t mean the election in general. I ALWAYS vote. I will vote this time too but not on this race. Can’t vote for either of these candidates - Todd is a joke, Peraica’s views are diametrically opposed to mine on key issues. And yes, I DO think it matters what the Cook County Board President thinks about Gays, Guns and Contraception.

  52. - HANKSTER - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 3:44 pm:

    Lucky Rod: Agreed.

  53. - JakeCP - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 4:18 pm:

Wow I think that ad was great. it was just a little too long, too many quotes and we need to see some quotes about Peraica praising him. However that wa still good.

  54. - Boone Logan Square - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 4:23 pm:

He’s got a better shot than Judy at winning in 3 weeks. I doubt he will unless the local media really target Todd hard.

Either way, what are the odds that either one of these guys will win the next election?

  55. - Candid Voter - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 4:24 pm:

Here’s the deal with this election. A vote for Todd Stroger is a vote for continued FBI raids, budget deficits, and kids being beaten at the Juvie Center. Stroger’s campaign staff is a joke, a former Madigan flunky (Madigan needs his county patronage protected), Quigley’s Chief of Staff (and former Madigan Aide) who has pushed the guns, gays, etc… b.s. but turned her back on the corruption issues she used to rail the elder Stroger on. Sean Howard, just arrested for stalking a woman who was not his wife. These fine people are responsible for pushing a candidate, who really does not want the job. I would feel sorry for Todd, who is a nice guy, if I didn’t feel more sorry for the Cook County voters. This election is about corruption! Pure and simple! A vote for Todd is a vote for more corruption. Period.

  56. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 4:28 pm:

Hacky Sack, if you bring somebody’s wife into a comment, you’re guaranteed to get deleted. And if you continue to do it after you are deleted, you’re just asking to be banned.

I know it’s getting close to the election, but people need to remember that this blog will be around long after November. If you want to continue commenting a few of you had better use a little more common sense and take a deeper breath before posting.

  57. - anne - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 4:51 pm:

Bubs, i’m a voter, not a Stroger staffer. I had no idea who Dan Proft was so when I saw him on tv, I googled. and found out that he is always in the middle of anti choice things. that scares me. and prompted me to post. and makes me certain not to vote for cicero tony.

  58. - fedup dem - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 5:15 pm:

I’m proud I voted early for Peraica!

  59. - Mike Williams - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 5:26 pm:

    the ad is great.

Poor Todd, he has no dough. Maybe his campaign manager can raise him some from his partners.

Abortion and social issues are NOT an issue in county government, or this race. The courts, health care for the indigent, and transportation ARE issues in county government.

And this Dem will be voting for Peraica because the committeemen insulted our intelligence and think we are suckers.

If the bungalow belt voters in 11, 13 and 19 can be persuaded not to follow the palm card their precinct captain hands them and use some critical thinking, Peraica can win. If the voters in these areas blindly follow the organization, Todd will win.

  60. - anon starter - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 6:14 pm:

The only place we will see “President Peraica” in writing is on this blog!

    Peraica 37
    Stroger 63

  61. - Bubs - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 6:16 pm:

    “Anne”,

I was going to let it be, but I can’t resist, since your story is so inane.

Let’s think this through, shall we? Just an unaffiliated, concerned voter, huh? OK, so you are telling me that you, as an average voter, saw a guy on TV acting as a spokesman for a candidate, so you immediately ran an google search on the spokesman. (Assuming, of course, that you ever got his name, which they say about once, and you got the spelling right, and all that?) Don’t bother with the candidate, but run and google the poor SPOKESMAN, right?

Then you are “Average Joe” enough to happen to know about the Capitol Fax Blog (since all average voters know about it, right?) and you even know enough (as a mere voter) to blog on it to announce the results of your “google search.”

    Give me a break! LOL

  62. - Tom - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 7:00 pm:

Stroger will unfortunately win on the strength of:

    1) Stroger patronage hires, and friends/family thereof, who are terrified that reform will cost them their jobs of sitting around doing nothing.

    2) African-American voters who are afraid of losing their seat at the power table (I can understand this one).

    3) Daley Machine loyalists who are scared that voters in #2 will decide City Hall is the new seat at said power table.

    4) Lakefront liberals who think that Peraica will ban abortions at Cook Hospitals, give guns to everyone, and deny same-sex benefits. When Todd wins and further runs Cook into the ground they will say “Well, at least you can still get an abortion at Cook hospitals.”

    5) Blind Democrat party loyalists who reflexively vote for the candidate with the magic (D) after his name.

    6) People who met Peraica, and didn’t like him because he was wasn’t quite nice enough to them. To clean up this mess we will need someone who gets under people’s skin, not a grinning nepotistic flyweight.

  63. - Wumpus - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 7:22 pm:

Vote Peraica First Cook COunty President, next Chief Justince of the Supreme COurt in Anne’s demented world!

The ad was wonderful, becuase it was the words of the media, who is usually not too friendly to conservative, non Dem City machiners.

  64. - Skeeter - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 7:30 pm:

    Tom:

You left out a few groups:

“People who know that Peraica doesn’t really have any ideas about how to cut the size of government.”

“People who think that our leaders should be smart.”

“People who realize that Peraica is a symbol for everything wrong with the Cook County GOP, i.e. it cannot recruit decent candidates.”

I am voting for Peraica, but I have no illusions that he is actually qualified for public service. I just think he is better than Stroger.

By the way: The more Republicans claim that Peraica is an outstanding candidate, the less inclined I am to vote for him. He’s a dingbat. I have the fear that if he wins the Cook County GOP will think he won because he was a good candidate and the result will be more like him.

Cook County needs a functioning two party system to keep everyone honest. As long as the GOP keeps running people like Peraica, that will not happen.

Peraica is better than Stroger, but that isn’t saying much.

  65. - anne - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 7:44 pm:

bubs, it’s true, i watched Chicago Tonight several days ago and googled, then posted here today. (actually, the first thing I did was to share with friends and that was days ago). why this site? this site is the best local online source
of political news in Illinois and Chicago.
I did not pay much attention to the race until I found out about Dan Proft’s consistent anti choice agenda. Now I know. Karl Rove started in Illinois. I’m not letting this one get by me.

Man– some of you guys sure have the fog machines going– this Peraica/Stroger thing brings out all sorts of twisted logic. Hey– let me take a shot at it–a neutral thought proces and then some of you can see that you’re arguments sound like this:

    Ray Charles is God because–

    1) God is love– right?
    2) Love is blind– right?
    3) Ray Charles is blind– No?
    4) Well the obviously– Ray Charles is God.

    And God help us all.

    Bubs,
The Feds have no say in the matter of when a government employee decides to use their vacation time. While they may not be allowed to use a sick day, most machine workers know they will be working election day at the polls in advance and plan accordingly. This was the case in March (Stroger d. Claypool) and will continue to be the case.
Secondly, while it is illegal to hire workers in exchange for campaign work. It is not, and should never be illegal for a citizen to take a day off of work to support a candidate of their choosing be it a reformer or a machine candidate.

Yeah Stroger ain’t ready for this. I wonder if he was resting on his dad’s laurels. Why did he accept this in the first place?

  69. - GOPGal - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 11:10 pm:

It looks like Carol Marin’s source for her story was wrong (big surprise). Stroger’s television ad will start airing tomorrow (Thursday).

They played a clip of the ad on the news this evening and from what I saw, it is a very effective (positive) ad for Stroger.

  70. - Snidely Whiplash - Wednesday, Oct 18, 06 @ 11:41 pm:

As has been said, he really needed to cut 3 or 4 of those quotes out. Most people can’t read that fast (I couldn’t quite finish 2 of them myself). It can also aggravate someone if you’re seeing it for the 1st time, casually reading the first few captions only to discover that it is a teleprompter for an auctioner.

  71. - Bill - Thursday, Oct 19, 06 @ 5:35 am:

Carol is wrong as usual. Money is not a problem for the Todd and Rod squad!
