Morning shorts
Friday, Oct 27, 2006 - Posted by Rich Miller * Our buddy Tim Nieukirk is profiled by the Daily Herald’s Animal Farm today.
* Treasurer candidates accuse, defend, deny * Sun-Times: Adding fuel to an already heated immigration debate, congressional nominee Peter Roskam appeared Thursday with one of the most polarizing figures on the issue. * Republican big guns firing up for Roskam * Tribune: In a surprise move, city Treasurer Judy Rice announced her resignation on Thursday, and Mayor Richard Daley tapped the private sector, naming Stephanie Neely to replace her. * Sun-Times quoting Congressman Jackson on Neely’s choice: “Where has democracy gone? The mayor has now appointed the city clerk, the city treasurer and 29 of the 50 aldermen. Depending on the outcome of the county election in two weeks, he might soon also appoint new aldermen in the 7th, 8th and 18th wards. … Why not wait until the election and let the people decide through an open democratic process?” * Emanuel: Chicago’s other future star * Candidates shy away from school funding - Blagojevich, Topinka low-key on reform

Hold on, someone needs to check the Sun Times. i swore it said that McCain was going to be in town for Roskam! That can’t be right, cause we all know he on the side of Tammy Duckworth!

Damn glad that at least one candidate has a sense of humor. Guess which one.
Saw Whitney on Channel 11 last night. He has no horns or a tale and spoke quite intelligently. He even diagrees with his party on some issues.
Most impressive was trhat he spent his time wxplaning his positions, not dissing Rod or JudyB

House Bill 750 is what this state needs. It’s a shame that Blago and Topinka are both against it (or at least cool to the idea).

Enjoyed the Cook County Prez debate on Ch. 7 last night. Not much coverage of it this a.m. Don’t like much of Peraica’s style, but if you listen closely, his words are right on, even for this Dem. Stroger just doesn’t seem to get much about what needs to be done to remake county government.

Tweed –
750 is right on if you think that the State needs a $3 Billion jump in revenue — above that needed to do the property tax swap.
Otherwise it just provides more evidence, that woolwise, the angora covers the taxpayers’ heads.
Now, they may need much of this, because if the Bush tax cuts get repealed by the new Congress, the largesse of the last two years gets cut off. Income tax and Sales tax revenues go down.
Looks like we are between a Rod and a DC Democrat victory, which will force a tax increase in many, many states, because the legislatures embedded the expected additional revenue in permanent projects.

Hi Rich- where’s the Fitzgerald mailer on Link you referenced in the Fax this morning? I heard Link went ballistic over it in an endorsement session Fitzgerald and Link had with the Lakeland Media yesterday, to the point where he had to apologize to the reporters for losing his temper.

I never thought I’d hear myself say these words, but Junior has a point.
Beyond even the one’s he’s apppointed, he’s used his gigantic war chest to help fund hand picked candidates in the elections.

Will Jackson ever stop his whining? I’ve never really seen anything that he’s done beside point out what others are doing wrong. Grand Ole Partisan, keep in mind that Jackson has spent a lot of time, and probably money, coming up with his own slate of candidates running for different offices, he’s no different than most in that respect - but he has a way of getting his name and face in the papers as often as possible. He should put more of his time to work on issues in his own district and solve them by creating solution ‘IN’ his own district. I worked in Harvey about 20 years ago, and since he’s been congressman for the district, I’ve seen no improvement, if anything things have gotten worse. He needs to shut up with the complaining and start doing something - besides his pet project the proposed airport near Peotone.

I am definitely voting for Rodriguez Schlorff for Treasurer. Giannoulias is corrupt and inept. Mommy funds his bankrupt campaign, and his only qualification for office is his ability to take orders from Barack Obama and from his daddy. And of course his family bankrolled Obama during the latter’s race for the Senate in 2004, making Obama’s endorsement very questionable. Critical voters will vote for Rodriguez Schlorff, not Giannoulias, who is inarticulate and underqualified.

Karen,
um I think Alexi’s father is deceased. Now how do you feel?
- Rich Miller - Friday, Oct 27, 06 @ 2:09 pm:
Yeah, Karen. C’mon. Uncalled for or ignorant.
- CarolStreamKaren - Friday, Oct 27, 06 @ 9:28 pm:
I did not know his father was dead, but he still inherited a business. Does inheritance qualify him for office?
- Michelle Flaherty - Friday, Oct 27, 06 @ 9:43 pm:
Boy CarolStreamKaren, you certainly do stay atop the issues and events surrounding Illinois politics.
Did you know George Ryan’s not governor anymore?
- WWDMD - Friday, Oct 27, 06 @ 10:51 pm:
Karen….Its one thing to support your person (who really did not do that well on WTTW, but seemed to be A pleasent fellow), but to say that Alexie was bad, inarticulate, underqualified and takes orders from Obama makes me say, “Whats she thinking?”
