* Toymaker fights state recall

In what could trigger the first test of Illinois’ strict law against lead in toys, a major toymaker is refusing to pull a popular, but tainted, doll from store shelves across the state.

Illinois authorities thought they had reached an amicable agreement late last year with Ty Inc. to have the company voluntarily remove its Jammin’ Jenna dolls from retailers because the toys contained high amounts of lead.

    Hilary slapped Obama with Rezko last night. It was in response to him calling her a corporate lawyer for Wal-Mart. She had a nice line; something to the effect “I was fighting Republicans while you were working as a lawyer for your contributor, Rezko, the slum landlord in inner-city Chicago.”

    She needs to add the adjective “indicted” to contributor and shorten slum landlord to just “slumlord” — a powerful word. Also, I would change “inner-city Chicago” to the “South Side of Chicago” because, thanks to Leroy Brown, everyone knows that it’s the baddest part of town. Might resonate better with the rest of the country.

    After all of my questions, Suffredin is now up and running on tv… with what may just be the worst television commercial I have ever seen. Larry, we don’t care how tall you are. I will not stand in the voting booth and think ‘well, Suffredin is 6′5″, I guess that makes him a better prosecuter.’

    So Allen’s ad insinuates that he’s a pitbull while Suffredin claims to be some kind of law-wielding giant. It’s encouraging to see that the CCSA candidates are all living in some fantasy land, a la Alice.

    The Zell days started not with the remake of the front page but — after the ledgerdemain — the quality of the paper it is printed on. Gone is the contrast which made the typeface stand out.

    It’s gonna take a full section, after I finish the paper, to wrap up my wet garbage instead of four pages. At least the ink doesn’t run.

    Methinks Tribune fed Sam a bill of goods regarding the sale of Wiggily Field to the State Sports Authority. Thought it would be a piece of cake, probably. Use it to buy down his debt. Time to take Big Jim Thompson for a motorcycle ride.

    Will Rudy still be in the presidential race when DuPage has their dinner?

    Nice to see the Clintons using race so much, what a class act they are!

    Kevin, *thank you* for finally bringing Suffredin’s attempted gun grab to Capitol Fax. I was wondering why y’all were ignoring this one.

  7. - Alexi's Bill - Tuesday, Jan 22, 08 @ 4:33 pm:

    isra is against him. pretty much works like an endorsement for suffredin. i agree with you ken.

  8. - Snidely Whiplash - Tuesday, Jan 22, 08 @ 5:36 pm:

    I just saw his commercial and I agree with you, Bill. Larry does like to throw his weight around, but that kind of bullying attitude doesn’t work well with voters. I also cracked up at his “I fought against Todd Stroger’s tax increases” statement … uhm … Larry … you endorsed him, remember?

    Good for Kiyoshi Martinez! Congratulations!!!
