Pat Quinn knows Lisa Madigan is next in line.

Illinois - home of the tear-away letter head.

  3. - South Side Mike - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 7:23 am:

Pat, Pat, all those labels will cost money. Why done we simply insert a dry-erase line there?

  4. - Angry Chicagoan - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 7:27 am:

“We priced it up and this was cheaper than Tippex or new stationery. We’re so broke we couldn’t even afford to buy that font that we don’t have any more.

  5. - NewDay - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 7:27 am:

Gov. Quinn to self: “I think I’ll stick around awhile.”

  6. - Snidely Whiplash - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 7:35 am:

Pat Quinn and the bandaid approach to the state budget deficit.

  7. - Dan S, a Voter, Taxpayer and Cubs Fan - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 7:46 am:

A thrifty Gov Pat Quinn saves money on stationary.

  8. - Dead Head - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 7:51 am:

Dude, I didn’t lick the label enough….why’s it all stickin up n’ stuff?

  9. - Independent - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 7:56 am:

After three hours of painstaking effort the best Rod could do was peel back a corner.

  10. - Anon - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 7:57 am:

The new “Governor’s Letterhead” lottery card. All proceeds go to reducing the deficit.

  11. - How Ironic - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 8:03 am:

So thrifty, he only uses 1/2 the glue recommended.

  12. - InParis - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 8:12 am:

    Stick to it Quinn

  13. - MOON - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 8:13 am:

    Temporary Governor

  14. - colt 45 - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 8:31 am:

    less than frugal

  15. - Dooley Dudright - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 8:38 am:

    1. PQ adds new meaning to the term “sticker shock”.
    2. Dude, you’re covering up the wrong governor! It’s now the “Pat Quinn Center”!

  16. - washedmyhands - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 8:38 am:

“Pat Quinn” is spelled with eight letters.
“Rod Blagojevich” is spelled with fourteen letter.
The Tribune just reported “New Gov saves taxpayers six letters in ink expense.”

  17. - right on gov - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 8:40 am:

    1. Pat Quinn — so thrifty, it’s painful to watch.
    2. So cheap, no wonder he’s single.

  18. - South of I-80 - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 8:41 am:

Pat Quinn: “They told me the glue would last until I was out of office……………….OH!”

  19. - Bonsaso - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 8:45 am:

You Are Governor Stationary Set. $9.99. Comes with pre-printed stickers with your name and a set of stationery.

  20. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 8:47 am:

Illinois GOP cries out at Gov. Quinn for wasting state money, noting it would have been cheaper to white out the “Lt.” in his current stationery. Besides, the RRB envelopes could raise some money on ebay…

  21. - Vote Quimby! - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 8:48 am:

Everything in Illinois is tacky…except these Avery labels!

  22. - Velma D. - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 8:51 am:

Pat Quinn, leader of a State government that’s coming unglued.

  23. - VanillaMan - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 8:53 am:

The Governor runs out of “Hello Kitty” stickers once again!

  24. - The 'Broken Heart' of Rogers Park - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 8:57 am:

Mental note to seal. Never buy from a union printer anymore.

  25. - Cinho - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 8:58 am:

Sticker to replace old governor’s name…10 cents
Two offices for one governor…$1 million
Looking frugal to the tax payers…priceless

  26. - SherryBear - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 9:02 am:

Geez people….lighten up, it’s only a sticker…and yes it does save money and it would be wasteful to toss the old letterhead which is still useful.

Damned if you do and damned it you don’t apparently.

Does everything have to have a comment or caption made up? Use your time better, please.

  27. - How Ironic - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 9:04 am:

    @SherryBear,

If you feel that strongly about supplying faulty name stickers to the gov’s office you should take it up with them.

  28. - Plutocrat03 - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 9:07 am:

And the next governor of Illinois is

    drum roll please…..

  29. - Ghost - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 9:08 am:

Cost of campaigning for Gov in Il: $4,345,643.12
Cost for updating the old stationary: $216.00
Getting to be Gov without having to campaign: Priceless

  30. - Heartless Libertarian - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 9:17 am:

He is not being frugal!!! If he were frugal, he would have just put a smaller, blank label over the Lt on his Lt Gov stationary. Now that would have been cheap!

  31. - Six Degrees of Separation - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 9:42 am:

Lesson 1: There’s a line between being frugal and looking cheap and un-gubernatorial, and I reckon it just got crossed.

  32. - Esteban - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 9:47 am:

Any truth to the rumor that Quinn uses his
    teabags over and over again?

  33. - tanstaafl - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:02 am:

Gov. Quinn finds out how the former administrations polices have even effected the quality of office supplies.

  34. - Anon - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:02 am:

Maybe he uses the teabags that were sent to Jim Thompson 20 years ago?

  35. - Honest Abe - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:08 am:

After replacing tollway signs, state workers were given light duty desk jobs rehabilitating Blagojevich’s stationery. Union Printers were outraged!

  36. - Levois - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:08 am:

There could be a new governor after next year so, no need for permanency yet. :P

  37. - Ron Burgundy - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:11 am:

#1 way to tell that the mail you are receiving from the State is not a tax bill.

  38. - White Rabbit - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:17 am:

Got it right side up, this time.

  39. - Cynic - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:18 am:

He did the same thing when he was Lt. Gov. putting his name over Corrine Wood’s. Although I’m not sure that it saves the state any money (still need to print stickers and have somebody place them on all the envelopes), I think it shows Quinn’s heart is in the right place. Of course, I’d be even more happy if I thought his head was in the right place.

  40. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:22 am:

Quinn labels himself a frugal reformer — but can he make it stick with voters?

  41. - Amy - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:31 am:

gov. pat quinn, saving for the state one piece of paper at a time.

  42. - Some Guy - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:31 am:

Interestingly, this picture was taken in 2004…

  43. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:33 am:

Rich, by the way, very robust blog today — and posted before the sun was up! I take it you pulled an all nighter. I’m sure Dr. Nick would prescribe a lager lunch and an afternoon nap.

  44. - stones - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:33 am:

I have no doubt he is doing this for effect. As bad off financially as the State of Illinois is in I think we can afford new stationery for the Governor.

It is just another stunt that makes us all look like idiots.

  45. - Mike Murray - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:36 am:

===Rich, by the way, very robust blog today — and posted before the sun was up! I take it you pulled an all nighter.===

Good call…I think he already talked to that Dr. Nick already and is currently being treated. LOL

  46. - Boone Logan Square - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:39 am:

    At Last.

  47. - Mickey M. Mouse - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:47 am:

Pat Quinn, the so-called self-styled populist, subtly sticks it to insincere media critics.

  48. - Anon14 - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:50 am:

The problem with this picture is it was taken in November 2002!!

  49. - Anon14 - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:52 am:

My apologies to Some Guy - our ideas most have crosses while posting!

  50. - Ravenswood Right Winger - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:54 am:

Do these labels cover up holes in the state budget?

  51. - soccermom - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:58 am:

Come on. It’s his style. And frankly, it’s quite welcome after that “My other car is the State Jet” guy.

  52. - Pickles!! - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:58 am:

We all know he’s a “Post-It” note governor anyway that can be taken down and torn away quickly

  53. - Jake from Elwood - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 11:00 am:

Is this a powerpoint slide from one of the Populist’s Sunday afternoon pressers?

  54. - HoBoSkillet - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 11:18 am:

Quinn: “I found a few boxes full of old labels in the basement and thought ‘This’ll do for now.’”

  55. - Bill McKay - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 11:26 am:

His name really is stuck to the last guy!

  56. - BannedForLife - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 11:30 am:

printing a new envelope: 2 cents each

Pat Quinn sticker: 3 cents each

    publicity value: priceless!

  57. - rural route - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 11:49 am:

wow, we can’t afford stationary for our Governor but we will drop a ton of wasted money for new uniforms for our NEW department of juvie justice when the uniforms they have now are just fine - waste, waste, waste my tax dollars

  58. - So. ILL - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 11:55 am:

Quinn after looking at his new stationary: “This is a ripoff!”

  59. - myguess - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 12:24 pm:

Damn, Should have just gone to the dollar store, but CMS made me use these.

  60. - Sinister - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 12:30 pm:

    Pat Quinn…Ofc of the gov…

“At least for the time being”

    or “until further notice”

  61. - Ahem - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 12:31 pm:

“Where you always save more money!”

  62. - frustrated GOP - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 12:44 pm:

“New Governor goes with non-biodegradable stickers for statinary”

  63. - Scooby - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 12:46 pm:

Governor Pat Quinn - you don’t want to see what’s underneath

  64. - South Side Mike - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 12:55 pm:

Quinn’s thoughts: “Darn label maker doesn’t work, after all! Damn you, Billy Mays! I was sure you weren’t lying to me about your wonderful TV products again!”

  65. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 1:03 pm:

When Blago came in agencies under his domain destroyed anyything and everything with the previous admin name on it no matter what it was…letterhead, maps, publication, brochures, employees etc. That was a REAL waste.

  66. - tanman - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 1:12 pm:

“Things interns are good for.” Reason #323,451

  67. - SD - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 1:17 pm:

Now what do I do with my Blagojevich/Quinn 2006 stickers?

  68. - Lefty Lefty - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 1:25 pm:

That label is not stationary on the stationery. (Thank you for spelling it right, Mr. Miller.)

  69. - Scott - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 2:07 pm:

Reminds me of a newspaper that I worked at 20 years ago, the turnover was so high staff was issued fill-in-the-blank business cards…

  70. - Yukon Bob - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 2:33 pm:

After we run out of these, I’ve got a ream of copy paper and some of those address labels from the Disabled American Veterans.

If his labels are the kind that have to be licked, I suggest spitting on Blago’s name instead.

  71. - Little Egypt - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 2:33 pm:

SD - solution to your problem is big stickers with lots of glue.

  72. - Little Egypt - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 2:34 pm:

    I meant labels.

  73. - Curtis - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 2:42 pm:

Come on people… it’s another cover up

  74. - SD - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 3:03 pm:

Little Egypt- Thanks for the advice. But now what do I do with all the newspaper clippings with quotes of Blago and Quinn supporting each other before their “break-up” in 2007?

  75. - Johnny USA - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 3:16 pm:

‘Quinn’? We thought you said ‘Kwinn’….

  76. - Commonsense in Illinois - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 3:20 pm:

By golly it does say William Stratton under there…

  77. - Pot calling kettle - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 3:34 pm:

Pat Quinn, a more a-pealing Governor for Illinois.

  78. - Pot calling kettle - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 3:35 pm:

BTW, I suspect he is also covering the Lt. on his old stationery and using that as well.

  79. - Jethro - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 3:42 pm:

I’m getting one of them pieces of stationary and putting my name on a label and sticking it on the top and everyone will think I’m the Governor! Cool beans!

  80. - Commonsense in Illinois - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 3:44 pm:

Rod Blagojevich is interrupted before he can finish the Pardon letter…

  81. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 3:47 pm:

Gov. Pat Quinn finally finds a use for the 347,500 rolls of white medical tape thrown in at no extra charge when Blago bought the foreign flu shots.

  82. - SherryBear - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 3:55 pm:

Dear “How Ironic” - my comments are directed at the comments made about taking time up to caption the issue….not the use of the stickers being a wrong thing to do….geez, it you are going to be sarcastic about my comment, please at least get it right!

  83. - Captain Flume - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 3:57 pm:

Is that sticker being peeled up or stuck down?

  84. - Suburbanite - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 4:39 pm:

You’ll be Tainted Sticking to Blago

  85. - Flyingpeak - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 5:08 pm:

Suitable for placing above the title of Rod’s book.

  86. - Capitol View - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 5:19 pm:

    Roland rejected the same idea.

  87. - Gregor - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 6:24 pm:

If only the tollway signs had been done with stickers!

  88. - Anon - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 6:46 pm:

    Undone by tape again

  89. - downinflloridalaughing - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 7:35 pm:

Is the union bug still valid?

  90. - Azi - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 7:49 pm:

This idea came in first, followed closely by legally changing Pat Quinn’s name to Rod Blagojevich.

  91. - zatoichi - Wednesday, Mar 4, 09 @ 10:15 pm:

The secret underground Blago loyalists just smiled when evidence of their covert effort to make Quinn look cheap started to surface. The plan has started…..

  92. - Quizzical - Thursday, Mar 5, 09 @ 12:01 am:

“Is there some way we can get Amnesty International to send us some of those free stickers like I get at home?”

  93. - Ahem...The REAL Anonymous - Thursday, Mar 5, 09 @ 1:51 am:

    =================
    Use your time better, please.
    ==================

Following SherryBear’s kind “advice”, CapFax bloggers decide to volunteer to save the State even more money by heading to the JRT center for a day to use recycled pencils from their kindergarten days to cross out the former Guv’s name and write in “Pat Quinn” on all official envelopes and letterhead.
