Quote of the day

Wednesday, Jun 3, 2009 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Our quote of the day goes to perennial candidate Dock Walls

Some may be merely mulling a run for Illinois governor next year, but William “Dock” Walls says there’s no doubt he’s stepping into the ring.

Walls… told the Defender, “I would drive myself insane” if Gov. Pat Quinn were elected to a full term in 2010. Walls said Quinn is similar to the booted Gov. Rod Blagojevich. [emphasis added]

But you can feel free…

It’s great publicity and you can raise a little money tax free. Dock understands business matters. Think of all the money Allan Keynes has raised tax free?

  2. - Levois - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 10:32 am:

    Walls should go away!

  3. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 11:05 am:

Dock Walls…. He’s no Ray Wardingley or Anthony Martin-Trigona (Andy Martin now, I guess).

  4. - Hank - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 11:09 am:

    Dock Walls…this generation’s Lars Daley!

  5. - Ghost - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 11:11 am:

    ANd how is Dock Walls

  6. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 11:19 am:

He should have said, “I would drive myself further into insanity.”

  7. - You Go Boy - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 11:27 am:

    ===Drive myself insane=====

    Short trip…..

  8. - fed up - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 11:30 am:

He has a nice back ground but cannot be taken serously. Quinn is about as effective as Blago. I think Quinn has his heart in the right place but just is not able to actually govern. I am not looking forward to an expansion of the Madigan empire.

    === Short trip….. ===

    I was gonna say:

So close, you should just walk.

  10. - Third Generation Chicago Native - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 11:53 am:

Dock Walls is the perpetual Democratic Canidate, Jim Oberweis is the GOP version.

  11. - Truthful James - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 12:01 pm:

Pat Quinn was a man with a reform trumpet sounding when he was out.

How that he is in, he is no more than a piccolo player.

Too bad for him, too bad for us. He wants so much to become an elected governor, but somehow believes it can only happen if he is more inside than Lisa Madigan. Or perhaps he had been promised an easy trip to the Senate. Whatever, His statue is disinetgrating before our very eyes.

“He couda been a contenda” if only he had run on his old persona — fight like Harry Truman, take the case for reform to the people. Instead we see a person who will go along to get along.

Where is the old Quinn energy, his humor, his ardor for reform?

  12. - Phineas J. Whoopee - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 12:16 pm:

Yep Truthful, It took about a month after Blago got arrested for him to forget who he was. Apparently, that was how long the pod took to germinate. This version won’t even look you in the eye anymore. It saddens me.

  13. - Wumpus - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 12:25 pm:

Well, Quinn was Blago’s lt guv.

  14. - GetOverIt - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 12:43 pm:

Gosh people. Quinn’s number one priority is to get the government car working again. So while we can be critical, let us not forget that he is pushing this car up a steep hill. The senate and house must be the engine and until they heed the call of reform, what can Quinn do other than attempt to broker a deal that will get the car running again, i.e. McGyvering the engine with rubber bands and paperclips.

Last, if you think a new governor will change the way Springfield works you’re a smoker. First look to your house and senate members and then vote for the other guy/gal. Unless we are willing to change the fundamental make-up of the legislative body and reduce its present membership to a few scattered splinters nothing will change. Be it Lisa Madigan, the Pope, Mr. Obama - or _______. Nothing will change - pass the duct tape, just blew a gasket.
Reform? What do you want another Blago?

  15. - Bill - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 12:56 pm:

We need a candidate who will promise to end business as ususal.

  16. - Phineas J. Whoopee - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 12:57 pm:

“So while we can be critical, let us not forget that he is pushing this car up a steep hill.”

He should try starting the car and driving it up, he might even be able to fit some passengers if he opens the doors and if he can’t get it running, try hiring a mechanic because he obviously is not strong enough to push it.

  17. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 1:00 pm:

Bill, have you found your new guy? :)

  18. - Irishpirate - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 1:53 pm:

    Dock Walls ain’t Oberweis.

Fortunately for the citizenry Walls lacks the milk mans mooola.

Now if I were a campaign consultant I might wish Walls were as rich as Oberweis.

  19. - anon - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 2:13 pm:

    Never heard of this guy??????????

  20. - JonShibleyFan - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 2:36 pm:

    Goof.

  21. - anon - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 4:22 pm:

    — Mr. Obama —

I think you meant President Obama, or at the least Mr. President.

    Just joshing with ya

  22. - ZC - Wednesday, Jun 3, 09 @ 6:37 pm:

William “Dock” Walls should square off in a contest against Sylvester “Junebug” Hendricks. Now that would be a toss-up.
