Sox Caucus event a total success

Tuesday, Aug 18, 2009 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Despite a little rain, last night’s White Sox Caucus event was a rousing success. Of course, winning certainly helped. Thanks to all who showed up. Here’s a brief video of some of the happy participants…

Sometimes, I can get a little carried away.

* Gov. Pat Quinn showed up to shake some hands and was mobbed by photo and autograph seekers…

* Totally unrelated, here’s a brief video I shot at the top of the Crazy Horse monument in South Dakota during my vacation, which finally ended a few hours after last night’s ballgame…

I hadn’t visited the monument in over 20 years, so I was pleased to see the progress they’ve made. If you ever get out there, you should definitely try to get one of the guided tours to the top. That face is 80 feet high, and the best view is up close.

Sox are hanging tough, Cubs, not so much.

Linebrink scares me as much as Gregg.

Memo to Alexi: Square up and get that glove down, especially late in a one-run game with two outs. Sheesh. Routine plays are supposed to be just that.

  2. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Aug 18, 09 @ 11:42 am:

Alexi is just plain lazy at times.

Tom Wogan, you are a little in an otherwise dim world.

    Rich,

That Crazy Horse monument is a boondoggle of Daleyesque proportions.

In fact, they should have the 2016 Olympics there.

  5. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Aug 18, 09 @ 12:46 pm:

It’s a private enterprise, MrJM. It isn’t a gvt project, so I’m not sure how you could call it a boondoggle.

The first time I visited Mt.Rushmore in 1947 it was beautiful also but look at what surrounds it now.I visited again in 1995 and was disappointed at how commercial it has become.Have a nice picture of it when there was just the monument and a rock parking lot,but there are visiters now.

havent visted the monumenet myself in over 20 years. When I was last there they had the whole under the outstrectehd arm and you could make out the rough outline of his arm, but that was all the detail. It is amazing to see where they are at now.

  8. - Amy - Tuesday, Aug 18, 09 @ 2:00 pm:

thanks for bringing in the win!

  9. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Aug 18, 09 @ 2:12 pm:

Cub fans, you can at least look forward now to somebody like Lance Briggs separating Favre from his ego-swollen head twice a year.

He’ll also make the Bears secondary look good, which is saying something.

The guy hasn’t been a real force for 10 years.

How’d the Guv get in the 100 level? Since his tix are in 500 he should have had to stay up there like everybody else-it’s called the “Ligue rule”

  11. - Ricketts Field - Tuesday, Aug 18, 09 @ 3:26 pm:

    Why isn’t Mr. Bramlet smiling?

  12. - Doug - Tuesday, Aug 18, 09 @ 3:50 pm:

    Sox suk

  13. - ArchPundit - Tuesday, Aug 18, 09 @ 4:10 pm:

Where in South Dakota is the monument?

  14. - Third Generation Chicago Native - Tuesday, Aug 18, 09 @ 4:36 pm:

    Thanks for the flicks Rich.

That was a tough game, glad they weren’t rained out and they won!

  15. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Aug 18, 09 @ 4:42 pm:

Larry, it’s just down the road from Rushmore.

  16. - 32nd Ward Roscoe Village - Tuesday, Aug 18, 09 @ 9:53 pm:

We were just at the Crazy Horse monument the weekend before this last one. It is very interesting. I think Mt. Rushmore can fit into Crazy Horse’s ear. I hope they finish it in the next hundred years! I didn’t think Mt. Rushmore was too commercial. I last visited there 30 years ago and not much different.

  17. - InParis - Wednesday, Aug 19, 09 @ 7:54 am:

I’ve flown over Crazy Horse on the way to Wyoming. It is certainly impressive from the air - I hope to get up close sometime rather than 4000 ft over it.

  18. - Beerman - Wednesday, Aug 19, 09 @ 8:49 am:

My guess as to why Mr. Bramlet isn’t smiling is the game was probably in the 8th inning after they cut off beer sales. Just kidding Tim!

  19. - Beerman - Wednesday, Aug 19, 09 @ 8:51 am:

What’s Sias doing there? He’s a Cub fan! We’re officially revoking your membership card Keith.
