Hynes demands explanation from Quinn - Media sucked up to Blagojevich
Thursday, Sep 3, 2009 - Posted by Rich Miller * Subscribers know that I asked Gov. Pat Quinn’s campaign yesterday for evidence to back up this claim by the governor…
I called and called and received no official response. I was told on background that Quinn was likely referring to a private request he made to Hynes during either the 2004 non-binding referendum on the graduated income tax or the subsequent push to pass a constitutional amendment based on the successful results of that referendum. Hynes, however, denied yesterday that he ever opposed the referendum and said Quinn had never asked him to help pass the constitutional amendment through the GA. Today, Hynes is demanding either a clarification or an apology. From a press release…
* Meanwhile, the Illinois Republican Party has posted a new video, which is essentially Hynes being asked on WLS AM’s Don & Roma Show this morning to respond to an IL GOP talking point. Watch it… * Speaking of Don & Roma, Gawker has uncovered some e-mails sent by media types begging for an interview with Rod Blagojevich soon after his arrest. Don & Roma’s producer told Blagojevich’s press secretary “I have an an incredible offer for you!” so please call. Read it here. Read the rest of the suck-up e-mails by clicking here. Former ABC7 political reporter Andy Shaw was no suck-up. Check out his e-mail. Heh. Way to go, Andy. [I don’t think I sent an e-mail that day because I was able to get the press secretary on the phone very early that morning.] * And David Ormsby compares Alexa web rankings of various gubernatorial campaign sites…
These aren’t hits, by the way. These are rankings based on the entire Intertubes. Proft has the “highest” rank of the bunch, with Quinn in second place. But they’re way behind this blog, which, according to Ormsby, Alexa has ranked at 206,748. I’m not a fan of Alexa, but whatever. It’s a fun little comparison.

Interesting that Murphy has that many hits, especially since he’s had a splash page up for over a month.
Guess that’s what happens when you blow most of your war chest on two days of commercials in Springfield.

Those aren’t hits. Those are rankings.

Andy Shaw’s email is the best ever. he doesn’t mess around does he!

I though it was weird that Quinn would even utter the words “flipped” and “flopped.”
When they don’t call back, you know they don’t have a good answer.

So, where do you suppose Quinn could make a dent in Hynes’ campaign - OH - there! OK! Thanks Dan!
The mouse is roaring, so you must have found a spot!

Indy,
That’s why we hired him!

Yes. Immutable law: When you’re using the other guy’s tag lines, you lose.

That story about the Today Show bumping Blago for Jay Leno doesn’t surprise me at all.
In April of 2004, the morning after the Utica tornado that killed 8 people, the Today producers went to great lengths to set up a live interview with one of the survivors rescued from the basement of the collapsed tavern, from his hospital bed. It got bumped in favor of breaking “news” regarding Michael Jackson (I can’t remember what it was; can anyone else? It wasn’t during his trial).

Fancy that Quinn is actually showing some leadership at something.
Dan Hynes a reponse from Quinn just ain’t gonna happen, and you know why too.

LOL @ Andy Shaw e-mail

The dance Blago did and does with Don and Roma makes me ill. Clearly, Wade is a republican partisan and just using Rod at every turn, and Rod keeps coming back… thank you sir may I have another.

The Gawker story on the suck-up e-mails links to an earlier story revealing that the Today Show HAD scheduled Blago for a live interview at the top of the show on Dec. 9 — the very morning he was arrested. (He was supposed to talk about the stuff going on at the Republic window factory.)
Guererro arranged everything with the Today Show producer on the evening of Dec. 8, and Blago was supposed to be at Channel 5 in Chicago at 5:45 the next morning for a live remote interview in the studio.
However, at about 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 8 (less than 10 hours before Blago’s arrest), the producer sent Guerrerro back a very apologetic e-mail saying the interview had been canceled due to “breaking news” regarding Jay Leno’s new prime-time show. So Blago slept in… and the rest is history.
The feds called and woke him up around 6:15 to tell him he was under arrest. One can only wonder what would have happened if the interview had gone forward as scheduled. Would the feds have missed him at his house and had to arrest him at or outside the studio? Would they have pinched him as he was going out the door to the interview, and would he have been forced to call the producer and try to explain why he couldn’t do it?

Oh and Adam Andrzejewski’s alexa rank : 2,048,257
Best of the bunch.
Just sayin’.

In my experience Alexa is much more valuable the higher you get in the rankings … so Rich, your ranking of approx 200k seems pretty appropriate/useful. Once you get over a million it’s a crapshoot, b’c a few users who have the Alexa toolbar can skew the results pretty significantly. As the campaign wears on it will be interesting to see which, if any, candidate websites climb into the top few hundred thousand.
