“…the strongest public statement to date…”
I’m expecting some hardcore profanity.
- Pot calling kettle - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 3:53 pm:
I think Quinn and Brady have been acting so foolishly lately, that Rod feels the need to jump in and out do them.
- Knome Sane - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 3:54 pm:
I hope the attorneys at Adams & Adams told Rod that the press conference is at 3:00. Otherwise, he won’t get there until 7:00. But if he is on time, that would be ironic. He’s late for funerals but when it’s related to his own execution, he is on time.
- Responsa - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 3:54 pm:
-strongest public statement to date–
He’s going to blame it all on Patti?
- Really?? - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 3:55 pm:
Again, I say: Oy.
- Sent from my iPhone - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 4:03 pm:
His statement had better be f*ing brilliant!
- Pot calling kettle - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 4:04 pm:
Maybe he will confess to everything. That would get people’s attention.
- dupage dan - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 4:11 pm:
To quote Flounder, “This is going to be so cool!”
When is the food fight?
- bored now - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 4:13 pm:
i’d love to know if blog readership again spikes…
- OneMan - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 4:21 pm:
So what will it be…
A) Is taking a plea deal
B) Blames Patty
C) Is going to defend himself
D) Nothing at all
E) Tosses a major Democratic figure under the bus.
F) Chewbacca defense
– Take your pick
- Blagojevich - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 4:30 pm:
I’m going to go with F for my statement tonight. Also I will be at least an hour late to the press conference
- Cousin Ralph - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 4:37 pm:
Feds and leading DEM figures in Chicago conspire against him, that’s my guess as to what he will say. He might add that he will challenge Rahm for mayor of Chicago.
- CircularFiringSquad - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 4:45 pm:
Perhaps he wil announce he is running the Claypool-Cohen Indy Label….what a threesome
- Commonsense in Illinois - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 4:55 pm:
Is anyone getting a feed yet?
- ToddAF - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 4:58 pm:
Just a mike stand shot right now.
- OneMan - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:02 pm:
All the bars behind the mics make an interesting background
- Ann - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:03 pm:
Yeah, his strongest public statement yet of how he only wanted to help the people of Illinois and this is all a conspiracy against him. So why am I going to watch it? Like flies to the garbage pail, I guess.
- bored now - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:04 pm:
free the tapes!
- bored now - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:04 pm:
patti is a devoted wife, mother and they lied about her earnings
- Just wondering - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:05 pm:
blah, blah, blah….same old story. I’m innocent and so is Patty.
- bored now - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:05 pm:
smoking gun on those tapes
- OneMan - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:05 pm:
Profer of lies, going after the prosecution for the Patty stuff.
There is a smoking gun on the tapes.
- bored now - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:05 pm:
government coverup “that stole a governor from the state of illinois”
- bored now - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:06 pm:
challenge to fitz: play the tapes. i’ll be in court, how about you?
- OneMan - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:06 pm:
Stole a governor from the people…
Calling out Fitzgerald’s manhood…
Classic Rod
- OneMan - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:07 pm:
Working the jury pool…
- Montrose - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:07 pm:
I think I just saw the prelude to a WWF match.
- Just wondering - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:07 pm:
seems to me more of the same argument but lawyers got a lot of coverage from this statement.
- Commonsense in Illinois - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:08 pm:
So, I didn’t miss much…
- Easily Entertained - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:08 pm:
Non news.
- And I Approved This Message - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:10 pm:
That was a waste of the gas it took to get to Hyde Park. I think we have some little anger management issues here. It would be suicide to let him take the stand.
- Suspicious Activity Report - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:10 pm:
I just witnessed a very desperate man.
- Just wondering - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:11 pm:
he did seem more angry than previously. Very angry actually.
- Suspicious Activity Report - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:13 pm:
Is that his attorney’s office? It looks like a half of double-wide trailer with a brick facing. What a dump.
- Responsa - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:13 pm:
Oh, I see his strategy now. He’s trying to tap into all the mistrust-of-government sentiment out there as revealed in polls and in the tea party protests. You can’t trust government!!! You can’t trust Fitzgerald!!!! (Apparently Blago does not fathom that one big reason people do not trust government is because of public servants like him.)
- bored now - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:14 pm:
responsa: well put…
- Boscobud - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:15 pm:
I hope they play the tapes. I would like to hear them myself.
- Suspicious Activity Report - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:21 pm:
Why hasn’t Dick Mell been standing at his side all these months?
Where’s Patti?
- MKA1985 - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:29 pm:
It was a waste of time, but at least it was a short waste of time.
- Logical Thinker - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:38 pm:
The interesting part of this whole saga now is that Fitz is actually going to play the tapes in court, and he’s going to do it early and often. Any chance of a plea-bargain are completely gone. The problem for everyone else is that their voices are also going to be heard on those tapes and it will also be early and often. There is collateral damage and then there is nuclear fall-out damage. I’m going with the latter on this one.
- Norb Macuga - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:40 pm:
I think Blago and Bill Brady should get together for a gun fight. Brady says he wants to return Illinois to the days of John Wayne and Blago is calling Fitz out for what seems like a duel. “Are you man enough Fitz?” I wonder if Brady will be there to watch.
- Peanut Gallery - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 5:41 pm:
Rod’s starting to squirm, he almost popped a vein.
June 3rd can’t come fast enough. Rod wouldn’t be a flight risk would he?
- Steve - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 6:32 pm:
Maybe, Eric Holder can be called as a character witness for Blago.

- Old Timer Dem - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 6:38 pm:
Madigan insinuated long ago that Blago was nuts. I don’t think he even realized how pathetic Blago is.
- Quizzical - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 7:13 pm:
Is he just cranky because he’s got a lot of time on his hands this baseball season and his favorite team has weak hitting and suspect pitching?
If any of the tapes have exculpatory information on them, Blago has a right to play them in his own defense. Blago is lying about that, just like he continues to lie and say he wasn’t able to present witnesses at his impeachment.
I pray that all of the jurors will be able to see through this BS.
- Willie Stark - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 7:43 pm:
Blago’s challenging Fitzgerald’s manhood, and Blago won’t take any reporters’ questions? OK. And, reporters, why keep giving this goon coverage under those terms? I get he’s a freak, and the spectacle *might* goose your ratings/readership, but where’s the self-respect?
- Plutocrat03 - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 7:45 pm:
fourth quarter, 2 minutes on the clock, down by 21, Blago fades back for the pass….. and fumbles………again
- Lincoln Parker - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 7:47 pm:
Quizzical, you are totally right there, Blago can play any tapes that show his “innocence”. I think he just wants to overwhelm the jury with hundreds of hours of irrelevant tapes to dilute the incriminating tapes. Also, it is creating the impression in some peoples minds that the feds are trying to hide something if they don’t play all the tapes, not that they are irrelevant to the case.
- heet101 - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 9:03 pm:
Just saw the replay on WGN news. Awesome. I don’t care if he is crazy, he’s passionate.
- Quizzical - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 9:03 pm:
Lincoln Parker — I think he also wants the jury to fall asleep listening to excrutiating conversations about his jogging and hair care. His lawyers would then argue that they presented reasonable doubt during those conversations. Sheepish because they were unconscious during portions of the trial, jurors might then vote to acquit.
- Six Degrees of Separation - Tuesday, Apr 20, 10 @ 11:21 pm:
heet101-
He has an amazing talent for staying on message. However, there just *might* be a problem with the message:-)
- Squideshi - Wednesday, Apr 21, 10 @ 12:01 am:
For those of us who missed it, what did he say?
- Observing - Wednesday, Apr 21, 10 @ 7:57 am:
Rod’s rising to shield his wife against the audacity that the feds are impuning wife-Patty’s integrity by releasing evidence of her possibility wrong-doing is ironic. This protectionist theater comes from the same guy who picked up his crying daugter at the state fair to protect himself from reporters’ persistent questions about the Blagojevich administration. This guy know no shame.
