Question of the day
Wednesday, Aug 4, 2010 - Posted by Rich Miller * I don’t know too many truly whacked-out people, so I don’t get a lot of those crazy chain e-mails claiming that the preznit is the Antichrist, or something. But, since it’s Barack HUSSEIN Obama’s birthday today, I thought I’d share one of those Illinois-related e-mails which was forwarded to me by a subscriber, who saw right through it. The e-mail included several photos, and here are a few…
The text…
The facility in the photographs is actually the Justice and Detention Center in Leoben, Austria, designed by renowned architect Josef Hohensinn. I’m sure Sheriff Dart is amazed that he has such a nice jail. Anyway… * The Question: What is the weirdest chain political e-mail you’ve ever received? Please, keep it clean, and keep this to politics only. Thanks.

Is that one back again? That Cook Co. jail thing went around like 2 years ago.
- Rich Miller - Wednesday, Aug 4, 10 @ 11:41 am:
Answer the question, please.

President Obama, the Muslim, is opening FEMA camps near the Marion prison to house American Christians after his Communist party wins the Nov. election. These camps are popping up all over the country to support the anti-christ Obama’s political agenda.

Pretty much anything I get from James Carville.

Do pre-internet things count?
Back in 1971 when Gerald Ford was president after Nixon’s resignation, a rumor spread like wildfire around campus that Speaker of the House Carl Albert had been assassinated. This was in the days when nobody had televisions in their rooms and you had to pitch in and rent one for the floor in the dorm. I ended up calling one of the local TV stations to see if it was true.

All that “birther” nonsense comes to mind.
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Aug 4, 10 @ 12:00 pm:
The speculation of Jack! Ryan and then the emails to ask Jack! to resign, because “that is what we DO know about him.”
Seems more like reveling in the gossip … little spooky and dirty …

I’ve gotten nonsense about the health care package that memebers of Congress have. I’ve felt the need to cut and paste the actually language from the benefit package and send it to everyone on the long email list with the correct information.
I hate when people mindlessly think all this garbage is accurate and forward the info.

We keep seeing all these crazy stories and email saying the Trib honchos were guilty of fraud in their billion dollar deal. Those are really off base
- John Bambenek - Wednesday, Aug 4, 10 @ 12:07 pm:
Any e-mail I get forwarded that originates with Media Matters.
Or from truthers.

It wasn’t chain, but some of the emails Hilary’s presidential campaign sent out were very weird. In one, if you hit the button to make a donation, you were entered in a drawing to sit next to Chelsea during one of the debates.

Hmmm… I don’t know, give me a minute and I’ll check my SPAM folder…

From about the day after Bush II was first elected, I got on a cousin’s eamil chain….bunch of Dems who felt the need to send 10 emails a day about what a threat Bush was to the country, world, democracy, motherhood, you name it. Didn’t matter what the issue was, he was satan. Finally sent some response back about how my email at work was not private, and I could get canned for political stuff. Not true (I don’t think so anyway), but got me off their list.
- Jimbo - Wednesday, Aug 4, 10 @ 2:30 pm:
Not to beat up on you there Park, but is ‘elected’ really the right word?
- John Bambenek - Wednesday, Aug 4, 10 @ 2:58 pm:
Jimbo-
George W. Bush was elected in 2000. Re-elected in 2004.
Get. Over. It. Already.

I’ve gotten the gun nuts e-mails claiming that in WWII, the Japanese did not attack the U.S. mainland because of fear of handguns. Apparently, United States Marines, not to mention U.S. warships did not scare them, but some guy with a 38 did. That same e-mail also made bizarre claims about Australia, the Nazis, etc. E-mails from that person now go directly to spam.

I recieved an email claiming that left wing activists are infiltrating the tea party and they intend to get out of line to give President Obama fodder to discredit the tea party.
I am sure infiltration takes place at all parties, some of the things the emails I recieved regarding the tea party were just too much Dale Dribble from King of the Hill conspiracy mongering that it was being orchestrated by the left.

only in spam

Late Clinton administration, something about Bill using the 25th Amendment to declare himself ill and install Al Gore as President and then cancel the coming election, take away guns, steal our precious bodily fluids, and somewhere martial law was involved - but not necessarily in that order. I think it was repackaged and used against GWB a couple times before he left.
You can fool more people than you should into thinking W is up for another run with a selective reading of the 22nd Amendment (”No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, …”)
