Of course not, but I have every right to wonder out loud whether something is true that I know to be completely false, right? Seriously, dude, wondering out loud whether something is true is absolutely slanderous. For one thing, because he was in the minority, not one single person was released as a result of Kilbride’s rulings. Secondly, Kilbride never argued for anyone’s release, just their retrial or re-sentencing. Because these were cases where procedures were not followed according to his interpretation of the law. Granted, following procedures isn’t always that popular, especially in heinous cases like those cherry-picked by Ed Murnane. That’s how Illinois ended up with so many innocent people on Death Row, remember? Maybe you don’t. Granted, upholding the law in cases of heinous crimes doesn’t make you very popular…much better to just drag the accused out into the town square a week before the election and Hang ‘Em High if you want to win a popularity contest. Which is of course why judicial retention races were never designed nor intended to be popularity contests. We don’t want or need judges who do wants popular. That’s what Governors and state lawmakers do, with mixed results some would say.
