Maybe they should re-direct the $43 mil. to improved editorial-page-thought-processes and actual news content.

Hear, hear, Sal! The irony of the Trib’s high-and-mighty editorial moralizing on all topics (save corporate greed and irresponsibility) is thrown into sharp relief against the predatory practices of its corporate parent’s executives. The suits are nothing more than well dressed vultures, picking over a carcass while the editorial hacks fancy themselves paragons of civic virtue, rather than the lousy piano players at a brothel they are in reality. It’s a tragicomic scene alright.

Rep. John Shimuks, who might soon chair the House Energy and Commerce Committee, apparently has a private line to God. He says we don’t have to worry about global warming because God Promised no More Catastrophic Climate Change after Noah.

$43 million in bonuses FOR WHAT?
Tarnishing the company’s reputation?
Decreasing circulation?
Oh I know… they deserve all that money for their brilliant quality-be-darned cost-cutting measures of laying off journalists with benefits and then replacing them with “self-employed” workers with no benefits and paying their own payroll taxes. And then shortly after that laying off those “self-employed” workers to replace them with unpaid interns.

So the tribune, demanding the state cuy waste, live in its means, bashing raises for union memebers etc wants to give 43 million it doesn’t have above and beyound its generous salaries????
I hope the trib editorial board says this is wrong and the paper should live within its means…. After all that’s what the private sector does… Doesn’t it??

Just about what I expected: Tribune bonuses are approved, although “to overcome objections from the unsecured creditors committee and the U.S. Bankruptcy Trustee in the case, the company agreed to withhold payments for five top executives who have been identified as potential defendants in legal claims related to Tribune Co.’s 2007 leveraged buyout.”
So that’s $40 million to be split amongst 635 managers and executives. But God forbid governments act like the private sector…
Oh, wait.

and how did Rahm’s wife get paid? how long was she on the payroll of City Hall in an assistant commissioner’s position?
