Clear your browser cache to see all of the new site

Saturday, Nov 20, 2010 - Posted by Rich Miller

* You won’t be able to see all of the new colors, design, etc. until you clear out your browser cache.

This redesign all started early Saturday morning when I replaced Roland Burris’ photo with Mark Kirk’s. It kinda got outta hand. But, I like the results.

But after spending quite a long while figuring out how to install drop-down menus to replace the pull-down menus, I discovered that my iPhone can’t use drop-downs, so I had to tear out all that work and reinstall the pull-downs. If I can’t use something, then it’s not going on the blog.

Also, the news feed colors should be changed later today, if we’re lucky. Nothing drastic. I’ve just toned them down a bit. But, as it turns out, I don’t have the necessary file permissions to update them myself. So, I’ve sent the changes to my web guys.

Thoughts?

I like the colors just the way they are. I thought you had assumed an, “autumn,” look.

New site does not work well in Firefox. Forced me to pull IE out of the closet for my daily fix.

  7. - dave - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 9:42 am:

Works fine for me on Firefox. And Chrome. And I have no idea if it works fine on IE - no idea why anyone would try it!

Excellent job, Rich! You are an amazing individual. No snark here. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Looks good. Richer colors, nice gradients heading off the sidebars, good contrasts.

Looks good…it’ll look even better when you’re Header boxes all use the same font…I’d change the font on your top menu to match as well.

I just pulled up Firefox, seems to be working ok.

  12. - Louis G. Atsaves - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 10:12 am:

Works great on my Safari. Actually a little easier on the eyes.

  13. - Anon 1122 - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 10:39 am:

Sorry Rich, tracked the problem down to an add-on in Firefox. Looks good and I like the colors betters, gives it better contrast.

  14. - CSTish - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 10:59 am:

Looks great! I like the ominous black that surrounds the dome now - very fitting.

  15. - zatoichi - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 11:07 am:

Works great on Firefox at work and home. That archive list is huge!

  16. - Newsclown - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 11:12 am:

Awww… I was getting used to calling it the “Maintenance Mode” blog.

  17. - Ghost - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 12:20 pm:

So is Illinoize finally dead? It’s been mostly dead for ages, except now I don’t know where to go to get my GOP Daily News or whatever that was.

Doubt it will be missed, although the posts from Illinois Issues writers at the end of session are usually very good.

Doug, white backgrounds and super-crowded headers favored by the papers right now, and white backgrounds and empty space favored by today’s bloggers is supremely unappealing to me. This blog has always looked different. It will continue to do so.

    No. It’s under review.

OK, good. Thanks. It had gotten tired over the last year or so, with so few guest bloggers being featured and the annoying daily poster who jammed up the headlines. Freshen it up, bring in some new voices and give it another shot.

  23. - Rich Miller - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 2:32 pm:

Ghost, Firefox has a built-in spell-checker. Use it.

  24. - lake county democrat - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 2:43 pm:

Me likes, esp. the script in the banner.

  25. - Rich Miller - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 2:46 pm:

lcd, thanks. There are little hidden gems embedded throughout the new site.

It’s actually dark brown. It’s supposed to give the website the feel of an upscale club, which it is. lol

  27. - Amalia - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 4:59 pm:

Rich, it looks really great. thanks for making it so easy on the eyes in so many ways.

  28. - Cheswick - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 8:43 pm:

Love the navy blue background. Very easy on the eyes. Excellent work, Rich.
