Pastrami, sliced as thin as Quinn’s margin of victory.

On rye, of course. With some mustard. Man, I’m hungry.

  2. - Tom Joad - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 4:45 pm:

    Crow for Brady.

  3. - steve schnorf - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 4:46 pm:

Both of them are showing class. Good for them.

  4. - Cheyrl44 - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 4:48 pm:

    I agree with Steve.

  5. - TD - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 4:48 pm:

    Apples and oranges.

  6. - dave - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 4:48 pm:

Brady should order the sandwich that is 10% off, even though it is actually 20-25% smaller than the original sandwich.

Quinn should order the sandwich that costs 1% more, even though it is 3-4% bigger than the original.

  7. - Living in Oklahoma - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 4:50 pm:

    Anything half baked for both.

  8. - Obamarama - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 4:53 pm:

Turkey for Quinn. No, ham. No, turkey. No, ham.

  9. - Wensicia - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 4:56 pm:

I don’t know about the main course, but a little humble pie wouldn’t hurt either of them for dessert.

  10. - Amalia - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 5:08 pm:

jello for Quinn. Brady should tell Manny’s how to make a horseshoe.

  11. - jerry 101 - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 5:13 pm:

    mmmmm….manny’s. yum.

I’ll take a corned beef sandwich and some potato pancakes please.

As for the Governor and the Loser, they should also partake in the Corned Beef and Potato Pancakes. They are, after all, quite delicious.

Good God, I want some of dat.

  12. - Wally - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 5:19 pm:

Quinn should order the most expensive item on the menu and then ask all the other patrons to pay for it. Symbolic of the next 4 years!

  13. - wordslinger - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 5:26 pm:

Latkes. One with sour cream, one with apple sauce. Then a Reuben with Kraut. Live dangerously and add some horseradish.

Good for Brady for showing some class. It was an awfully close election.

Still, given the state of the state’s finances, the Rathskeller would be more appropriate. I haven’t been there in 25 years and I still get a knot in my stomach thinking about it.

Do they still leave the deli meat and “fixings” out all day long for people to pick and poke at building their sandwiches? Does the aroma of the boilers and body heat in the tunnel still add to the ambiance?

  14. - Anonymous - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 5:26 pm:

What will Quinn eat? Whatever Mike Madigan says he can eat.

  15. - shore - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 5:31 pm:

Like the new background colors of the blog. Looks fresher. I hope you and barton didn’t spend all weekend on this.

  16. - Raising Kane - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 5:38 pm:

    Do they serve puppy fricassee?

  17. - 47th Ward - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 5:58 pm:

I don’t know if they still serve it, but I’m pretty sure Manny’s serves up a very nice tongue sandwich. That would be appropriate for both, and better if they want to share it.

If they shared a sandwich, Quinn gets 46.5%, Brady 46% and Whitney, Cohen, etc., split the remaining crumbs and mustard drips on the wax paper. They can split the bill the same way, although Whitney will need some help with his end of the tab.

    Mmmm, tongue sandwich…

  18. - Corduroy Bob - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 6:02 pm:

    Mandate Stew

  19. - ANON - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 6:24 pm:

Will Brady show up in Blackhawks attire and be, ahem, “tired” like Alexi? If they’re going to follow Kirk/Giannoulias, they might as well go all out.

  20. - Cuban Pilot - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 6:38 pm:

Brady: He should order a Steak Sandwich, hold the steak.

Quinn: He should order a turkey sandwich, hold the bread.

also, if jason plumner is appearing with bill, bill should order the mac and cheese off the kids menu, with chocalote milk to wash it down.

  21. - Cuban Pilot - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 6:43 pm:

In all jokin’ aside, this is real classy for both men. When I have absolutely no hope or faith in this State, this symbolic act kind of makes me (just a little) reconsider my position.

  22. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 6:54 pm:

cuban pilot - I was going to post something about the kids’ menu for Jason …

Class act by both to follow through with this …

    Menu?

Donuts …alot of sugar and sweet on the outside, but empty on the inside like the budget …

I am not good with the food parallels … sorry

  23. - Mclean GOP - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 6:54 pm:

just keep pork off the menu,

    maybe an 800 lb gorilla?

  24. - Lefty - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 7:14 pm:

Who buys and why? Brady, Quinn or do the people of Illinois pick up this tab also?

  25. - Cuban Pilot - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 7:16 pm:

    oswego willy,

To be honest, in more than 2 hours after the blog post made by rich, I cant belive no one made a jason plummer/ kid menu joke before me.

Also, I once read about how the major party governor candidates in Deleware both take a car ride after the swearing-in ceremony, driving through the three county seats of Deleware. Essentially, they sit in a car for 2 hours as a sign of unity. So, I hope that “Breakfast at Manny’s” does not become their trip to georgetown.

Personally, as a sign of unity, the major party governor candidates in Illinois should go on a 24-hour bender on the first week of deer camp. The itinerary should go as follows:

    1) go to a bulls/hawks game (depending who is in town), 2) travel to rural bloomington in early a.m., where each candidate must shoot either a doe/buck; 3) Then down to springfield where each candidate must do a rail at marley’s pub,; and 4) Followed by a trip to sauget. That would cover 80 percent of all groups in Illinois as a sign of unity.

  26. - wordslinger - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 7:33 pm:

–just keep pork off the menu,–

Brady and Quinn keep Kosher? Who knew?

  27. - ARGHH!!!!! - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 7:33 pm:

Would have been nice to have picked a place outside the City of Chicago….just sayin’

  28. - Blue Dog - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 7:41 pm:

They should have picked a place in Sandwich, Illinois……

  29. - just sayin' - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 7:48 pm:

    Bill who?

  30. - Smitty Irving - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 8:04 pm:

Based upon past practice, some joker will offer to pay for lunch just like the State pays for its pensions … “I’ll gladly pay you in 2060 for a burger today!”

  31. - 32nd Ward Roscoe Village - Monday, Nov 22, 10 @ 10:20 pm:

They should order whatever Axelrod is having. I mean, could you pick up a paper with an article on David Axelrod since 2007 that didn’t mention that his favorite restaurant is Manny’s?!

  32. - D.P. Gumby - Tuesday, Nov 23, 10 @ 9:59 am:

Do they have a budget menu?

  33. - Wally - Tuesday, Nov 23, 10 @ 10:01 am:

Nice pokes at Jason. Jason will go back to the family business and make a bunch of money. Another young guy on the other ticket, who didn’t fare so well on November 2nd, can only drive by his closed bank.

  34. - Irish - Tuesday, Nov 23, 10 @ 10:05 am:

One wonders if Mark and Alexi hadn’t had their beer would this even be happening. Once again PQ doesn’t have an original thought.

This is all nice and sweet but let’s pack a sack lunch and get to governing.

  35. - Phineas J. Whoopee - Tuesday, Nov 23, 10 @ 10:26 am:

They should both have the chef’s surprise because this election shocked ‘em both.

BTW, have they posted the final vote totals for the Governor’s race including absentee ballots etc? I couldn’t final numbers.

  36. - Just The Way It Is One - Tuesday, Nov 23, 10 @ 12:54 pm:

“dave’s” comment above hilarious–I think he hit the bullseye for the cost of each guy’s sandwich, (which, also just to experience how the other thinks, should be paid for by the other guy!), but, slso, given how these races can really leave a “bad taste” in one’s mouth, perhaps each of ‘em should add some “SOUR” kraut (sauerkraut) to each other’s sandwich too! But, in any case, VERY classy/gracious–in the spirit of unity and, hopefully, SOME decent degree of harmony in Springfield, too–of the Governor to extend the invite, and for BB to accept….enjoy the moment–and peace for the time being, Illinois!!!
