This morning’s must-see video: “A notorious former warlord” of a “corrupt wasteland”

Tuesday, Mar 8, 2011 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Daily Show correspondent John Oliver filed a dispatch last night from a “savage territory” and “corrupt wasteland” which will be familiar to all of us

The premise of the sketch was that Oliver was in a place called “Ill-in-o-is, a desolate lawless region,” and his “reporting” was in the style of a war correspondent who had found himself in a strange and dangerous land.

After doing such things as treating a fast food takeout window as if it was a military checkpoint, Oliver revealed that he’d “arranged a meeting with a notorious former warlord” because “apparently no one knows the region better than him.”

* Hilarious

* In related news, Gov. Pat Quinn told reporters yesterday that the Wisconsin governor is “trying to bully Senators as well as workers.” Listen…

* Indiana House Democrats expect to stay in Illinois: That means, he said, that they could stay out until April 29, the day set in law for the General Assembly to have finished its work.

* Indiana House Democrats will stay away for ‘as long as it takes’: If the standoff persisted until June 30, the deadline for passing a new budget, portions of state government would have to shut down.

* Fines fail to faze exiled Indiana Democrats: Over in Illinois, the giant television satellite trucks that marked the Democrats’ arrival and sat in the Comfort Suites parking lot for several days in late February were gone Monday. So, too, were most of the media who for days had juggled laptops, cell phones and notebooks in their temporary office of the hotel lobby.

Ah, a cameo by our state village idiot is included! That guy really will stoop to anything.

The Daily Show has been very off-key in a very strange way with Wisconsin, belittling what’s going on there. And pairing the Wisconsin Senate Democratic leadership to Blagojevich is simply a disservice, I’m sorry but it is.

    Simply hilarious

I would suggest Mitch Daniels and Scott Walker obtain the services of “Dog, The Bounty Hunter”and his wife Beth to find and return the wayward members of the Wisconsin and Indiana state governments. It is always possible that the Democrat senators were swayed by the self-serving leadership of one of those nefarious union cults to “leave their homes, renounce all of their worldly possessions, and to simply trust in the union leadership’s love and teachings.”It has frequently happened to naive Illinois union members with disastrous results.

Perhaps another option would be for Daniels and Walker to place a monetary bounty on each of the missing Democrat members? We have a lot of unemployed folks over here in Governor Quinn’s “Land of Milk & Honey”. Unemployed Illinois residents would have the missing fugitives “hog-tied, thrown in the truck of a car, and dropped off in front of the Wisconsin and Indiana state capitol building” within 48 hours if Mitch and Scott would simply start hanging up $500 per senator reward posters over here in Illinois. We have too many mouths to feed over here in Illinois as it is. However, we no longer cut off the ears of those we are seeking to assure proof of possession. We only do that for the coyotes (and Democrats) in Grundy County (at least, so far).

I will let Dwayne and Beth know that they might be getting a phone call from you. Happy Hunting, guys.

Eric Idle and John Cleese it was not; but a noble effort none the less. There must have been some $$$ involved in order to convince Blago to get off of his couch and out of his jogging suit for this cameo appearance.

Maybe he was brushing up on his skills for his anticipated appearance at the University of Oxford. The real funny part is that he may be more likely going to FCI in Oxford Wisconsin instead. He may even get there before some the missing Democrat Senators decide to return.

@Beowulf - Now that’s what I call a rant! Top marks. I can just imagine the shade of purple you were when you wrote it. :)

And he lied again when he said he wouldn’t sell the WI legislators out if he knew where they were–for a buck, he’d sell his own…

John Oliver….very amusing. The Wisconsin State Senator did very well in the comedy environment, which is not always easy.

Actually, it did a very good job of satirically lampooning the absurdity of Scott’s position trying to make the Wisc. 14 into some kind of traitors. Showing Blago was more a slam to Scott than the 14 reminding us how out of control Gov’s can be.

The betting window is open: Is Beowulf’s tattoo crossed broadswords on his chest (-400), a single mighty battle ax on his bicep (+200), or a thuglife-style “Beowulf” belly tattoo (+100)?

That was brilliant. Nice to see a Tea Partier participate in a comedy show.

Classic! Making fun of both sides by using a “serious” mode of expression.

What’s even funnier are the comments. Not every got the humor!

  14. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Mar 8, 11 @ 5:28 pm:

Blago’s 15 minutes must be up. Even a few months ago, his appearance on The Daily Show would have prompted dozens of comments.

His fade to obscurity will probably hurt him more than being a convicted felon.
