Question of the Day

Thursday, Mar 24, 2011 - Posted by Rich Miller

Posted by Barton Lorimor

Not a bad pick…

Four-time Academy Award nominee Ed Harris has been cast as presidential candidate John McCain in HBO’s upcoming film, Game Change.

I don’t think Rich has done this one before, but this could be fun.

Question: If you were the casting director of a movie being made about Illinois politics, whom do you cast for what role?

Have fun, but please be respectful.

–Paul Newman (in his prime) as Tom Cross;–

Please tell me that’s snark. If not, it’s very, very strange.

    bored with press,

That’s great! He could star in the movie “Pat Out of Hell”!

  11. - wordslinger - Thursday, Mar 24, 11 @ 2:39 pm:

Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter for Michael Madigan. Super-smart, and if you don’t watch out, he’ll eat your liver with fava beans and nice chianti.

Bruce Weber as Tom Cross. I know Weber isn’t an actor, but whenever I see those guys on TV trying to explain something, I get confused about what they’re saying and I’m not sure which one it is.

Joe Pesci as Jim DeLeo. Too easy.

Denzel Washington as Barack Obama. Also too easy.

The late Rodney Dangerfield as Pat Quinn. He get’s no respect, but he’s making a living at it.

Meryl Streep as Christine Radogno. That’s a default choice as I think Streep is the only American actress over 50 working in the movies. Hollywood likes the young ladies.

The late Ethel Merman as Judy Baar Topinka. Loud, larger than life. God, I’m getting old to even know that.

Gianni Russo as Rod Blago. Gianni played Carlo in “The Godfather.” Nice head of hair, ultimate betrayer.

Talia Shire as Patti Blago. She played Connie, that seems to work.

  12. - Ace - Thursday, Mar 24, 11 @ 2:49 pm:

    Janeane Garofalo as Lisa Madigan

  24. - Barton Lorimor - Thursday, Mar 24, 11 @ 3:32 pm:

  31. - bored with press - Thursday, Mar 24, 11 @ 3:50 pm:

Meat Loaf is a Grammy-winning American rock icon with a tough life and hard-earned success. History sees him favorably, and so should Rich!

  48. - Leroy - Friday, Mar 25, 11 @ 10:06 am:

    >Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump as Pat Quinn

Sweet! I’ll start on the screenplay…

PQ: I’m like a box of chocolates…you’re never sure what you are going to get

PQ: I’m not a smart man, Mr. Madigan..but I know what a tax is.

Madigan: Quinn! What’s your sole purpose in this government?
Quinn: To do whatever you tell me, Mr. Speaker!
Madigan: G– damn it, Quinn! You’re a g– damn genius! This is the most outstanding answer I have ever heard. You must have a g–damn I.Q. of 160. You are g–damn gifted, Governor Quinn. Listen up, people…
Quinn: [narrates] Now for some reason I fit in the government like one of them round pegs. It’s not really hard. You just make your speeches real nice and remember to stand up straight and always answer every question with “Yes, I favor that.”
    Madigan: …Is that clear?
    Quinn: Yes, Mr. Speaker!

Cullerton: Anyway, like I was sayin’, taxes are the fruit of the government. You can tax sales, income, gasoline, property. Dey’s uh, payroll tax, food tax, entertainment tax, alcohol tax, cell phone tax. There’s cigarette tax, natural gas tax, internet tax, landline tax, vehicle tax, luxury tax, death tax, 911 tax, real estate transfer tax, electricity tax, excise tax, hotel tax, dry cleaning license tax, coin operated amusement tax, garbage tax, mosquito tax….That- that’s about it.

  49. - Anonymous ZZZ - Friday, Mar 25, 11 @ 3:11 pm:

    Leroy, that was excellent!
