This just in… Quinn AV’s SB1
Tuesday, Apr 19, 2011 - Posted by Rich Miller * 4:38 pm - Gov. Pat Quinn has used his amendatory veto stamp on Senate Bill 1. The bill would boot from office within 30 days of becoming law hundreds of paid and unpaid appointees who have not been reconfirmed by the Senate for new terms. From the governor’s veto statement…
In essence, the AV gives him more time to get his act together and appoint or re-appoint people to these positions. The list of salaried holdovers is here. Unsalaried holdovers are here. A little bit of background is here. * As you can probably guess, Senate President John Cullerton was very big on this bill. You don’t give it the “1″ spot unless you want to highlight it. More and more, governors have simply ignored term lengths to bypass the Senate’s advice and consent role, and Cullerton wanted that stopped. We’re awaiting an official react from Cullerton. Stay tuned. * 5:11 pm - From Cullerton’s press office…

At least it’s a constitutional AV… even though the governor shouldn’t have AV powers.

Seems like the sponsors wanted it effective immediately. Perhaps someone could ask them? they are:

Looking over the salaried list, I’m quite certain that I was born to be the Small Business Utility Advocate at $99K annually.
I didn’t realize it until now, but my whole life has been on a crazy, twisting path to that position. I’m ready.

Pat, you’ve been Gov. nearly 2 years from Blago’s removal to your own election to office. How much more time do you need?
- I Got Nuttin - Tuesday, Apr 19, 11 @ 6:34 pm:
Brian Hamer is one of the original Blagojevich holdovers. He is not listed on the salaried holdover employees.

lol, word. Go forth and conquer!
- Michelle Flaherty - Tuesday, Apr 19, 11 @ 7:58 pm:
Hamer, I believe, has been re-nominated.
All Quinn has to do is file new paperwork if he wants to keep these people. It’s mostly a paperwork exercise, you know, basic administration of government type stuff that one should expect to be able to handle when one seeks the top executive branch post in the state.
- Michelle Flaherty - Tuesday, Apr 19, 11 @ 8:10 pm:
In fact, Hamer is Appointment Message 1 (AM1 at www.ilga.gov) in the Senate.
To be Director of the Illinois Department of Revenue for a term commencing January 31, 2011 and ending January 21, 2013:
Brian Hamer
Annual Salary: $142,339

Pat Quinn disappoints once again. No testicular veracity. FIRE THEM!

Two members of the Lottery Control Board are deceased. Is that what they mean by “holdover”?

Good Jesus. Quinn is impossible. SB1 isn’t a sweep, a purge, a fumigation or a removal. It was simply a, “hey, reappoint/appoint/clear up/make good/fix/figure out the list of the people who are appointed to office, would ya?” But Quinn, after untold numbers of hours..and days.. and weeks… and months, he says, “eh, screw off. I’m the govenor now - much better and you all are just ankle biters. I know how to bite ankles. And it gets you nowhere unless you tack yourself onto a real crook.” Look, SB1 isnt the best example to test it, but maybe the whole load of crap he’s put on our collective plates is reason enough to give that recall power he demanded a try?

Bills are not “entitled”, Gov. Quinn. They are “titled”.
Just nitpicking.
