It’s depressing to remember that the lowly Florida Marlins have won two World Series in recent years, while the Chicago teams have mustered one in the last 90 or so.
Sheesh, the last time the Cubs won the Kaiser was a kid.
It seems fairly obvious that the Marlins are really looking for Ozzie to re-energize South Florida’s Latin population as a potential fan base for the team.
Experience has shown it is a risky proposition to use the manager as the exclusive marketing face of a team.
spot-on “shore” both ditka and ozzie lost perspective, thought they where bigger than the product, prediction….Ozzie falls on his face in Fla. the Marlins are not the #1-2 or even 3 draw in Fla. he won’t be the media darling after a short time and he’ll implode! Adios! Now if Mr. R would rid us of his GM, the world would be a better place.
oddly they both won titles in a year ending in 5, had played for the team as players and had their careers crash at the start of a new decade. will be interesting if new white sox manager does what wannstedt did and clears out remainder of title team.
I also think the guillen kids should have a reality show.
It’s funny to see people actually believe what Ozzie says.
“I don’t care if you are Ramirez,” says the guy who punted on managing by trotting out underperforming veterans for no reason other than they’re veterans.
Also nice that the Marlins and Ozzie worked out a story to avoid the appearance of tampering when Ozzie’s website had a post saying he was taking the job Monday night.
It’s just unfortunate they didn’t move Kenny out at the same time. Firing Kenny and keeping Ozzie would have been disastrous.
Was there this much gnashing of teeth on the West Side when Charles Murphy cut ties with Frank Chance? Was there a press conference when Chance assumed the managerial position with the New York Yankees? Snark.
I will miss Ozzie. I liked him as a player and will be forever greatful that he helped in bringing a WS Champ to the White Sox. I wish him the best. I still think part of the problem has not been fixed, though. Ken Williams should also be out. Ozzie may have had some uninspired players, some bad lineups, etc. But he could only make a lineup out of what was on the Major League Roster, sure he may have been sticking it to Kenny by overplaying Dunn and Rios at times. But Ozzie wasn’t the one with the power to call up Viciedo, Axelrod, De Aza, …. that’s Kenny’s job.

Did Pat Quinn write Ozzie’s opening statement?

Shore, that’s pretty spooky — you’ve got a Lincoln/Kennedy comparison thing going on there.

And we won’t miss either of them.

Ugh, but we’ll have to listen to Hawk drone on for another few years. Why can’t he go with Ozzie too?
