While the CYRs are making a spoof of something (something a dope like myself usually does), the Speaker, the ILDems, and the H & sDems and are working.
Congratulations, you are a YouTube sensation. How about a lil less YouTube and a lil more focus on what is really important, like finding the GOP voters, harvesting the lists, and getting a game plan to get those critical votes from the list to the ballot boxes.
I would lighten up …but being in the Minority, having no say in how things are done in Illinois, and then realizing, while a good thing to blow off steam and get a good laugh, I see volunteers on the other side focused.
77 days.
OneMan, if those new districts out our way go Dem, will videos like this make you all warm and fuzzy then too?
I get that the CYRs are trying to have fun … winning is real fun too.
There are something like 3 races that the Rs could win in the city. I honestly don’t care how they spend their time, because it doesn’t matter if they work hard or make Call Me Maybe videos from now until e-day.
Truly one of the worst things I’ve ever heard, it’s like the Exile on Main Street of bad music. How many people seriously had to green light this before actually putting it online? Wow.
Ow,
If those districts out by us go dem it isn’t because a Chicago call center had some volunteers make a video one day…
It will be the fact one candidate lives on a fairway at White Eagle and that was used against her effectively.
It will be because another candidate made some ‘interesting’ decisions about what Republicans to hang out with and have help him in public ways with his campaign.
Finally I strongly suspect the CYR call center is not making calls in Kane, Kendall, Will and DuPage for state rep or state senate candidates.
===It will be the fact one candidate lives on a fairway at White Eagle and that was used against her effectively.

Sounds to me …Lots of excuses for GOP “loses”, that haven’t even been loss yet, but we have the reasons.
It seems to me the ILGOP either has an excuse for why we cant’/don’t win, and/or why we don’t rally around the primary winners.
Keep the YouTube videos a-coming! Would be nice to see some mining for GOP voters for 2012, 2014 and beyond being accomplished and the numbers reflecting that.
=How about a lil less YouTube and a lil more focus on what is really important, like finding the GOP voters, harvesting the lists, and getting a game plan to get those critical votes from the list to the ballot boxes.=
I know many of our CYRS personally, Willy…and have for a very long time. They’re an extremely talented bunch. I’m sure that the song and production of the video took no time at all–just like the spoof that our Marines put out using the same song. And when our CYRS are back to work, you’ll notice them again, too. Just like our Marines.
I’ll take your word for it. I just remember Brady getting smoked by a GOTV loss, and then I see this, while cute and warm and fuzzy, reminds me of the turnout and the percentage of non-voting, and how many of them were Repubs? Actually, kudos to them for doing something, but mining for votes and GOTV are a sore subject. I know you wouldn’t steer me wrong.
- OneMan -,
If, after all that has happened in Illinois politics, the ILGOP, the last election, and the ramifications, including this map, you STILL think Tom Cross has no blame, then I can’t help you no matter how cute you think the video is…
The CYRs turned the most boring activity in all of politics and made it into a cute music video that will get more young people in the door to make calls for Romney. Good for them!
Oswego Willy: “While the CYRs are making a spoof of something (something a dope like myself usually does), the Speaker, the ILDems, and the H & sDems and are working.”
Willy, I know them well enough to believe that they didn’t just put the video out to get themselves on TeeVee so that they could stare at themselves. Their objective was to recruit volunteers by being honest about who they are.
I love that young people are making engaging in the political process fun and accessible. . Nothing wrong with bringing some lightheartedness to what can often be such depressing politcal atmosphere. Love that there is a call to action too. Good work, now go make phone calls!!
Hey GOP, instead of making videos, have you thought about taking positions that won’t make most women despise you? It seems like they took their eye off the ball.
Before people will make calls for you, they need to think that you are not evil.
- Yellow Dog Democrat - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 2:27 pm:
Like Skeeter, I hope some enterprising reporter shows up at the CYR phone banks to ask some of those mice kids what they think of Paul Ryan and Cong. Akin’s plans to outlaw abortion in the cases of rape.
That said, its not THAT bad of a video, and I give credit to anyone who can make phonebanking sound like fun.
Agreed, it’s all in the follow-up. But the CYRs are workers. At this point, other than high dollar fundraisers, the CYRs are the driving force of the GOP in Chicago right now. The tail is wagging the dog when it comes to the GOP in Chicago. Obviously that’s more a criticism of the regular party apparatus at this point, but as for professionalism and work ethic, the CYRs do deserve a good amount of credit.
I hope the young dem campaign staffers fire back with something equally as ridiculous. Maybe use “lets get physical” and show how much they sweat as they tirelessly knock doors and push petitions–all while wearing unitards and scrunchy socks of course. Campaigning should be fun.
I know these guys…in their mid 30’s and both have been trying to drum up support in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, especially amongst Latinos. The spot is brave to say the least, but that’s saying the most…thumbs down.
Although it goes on way longer than it should, I don’t see anything wrong with a bunch of young Chicago Republicans having a little fun and showing people that they are human and have a sense of humor.
It’s about time someone breathed a little life into the Republican Party. Way better than the “Fire Madigan” stunt at the State Fair.
Makes a nice contrast to the humorless, self-righteous Obama-nites.
=Oh my god what a bunch of nerds. Absolutely awful. Really awful.=
lol I believe their slogan is “It’s hard to be right in Chicago.” Based on some of the comments on this thread, you have to admit that they are, in fact, insightful.
I kinda like it. It looks like they’re having fun and would welcome new folks (at least, new folks who fit certain demographic profiles.) It can’t hurt, and it puts a more youthful, urban face on a state party that has defined itself primarily by old guys from downstate. (I use the term “old guys” in the way that my children use it to define my husband and me.)
They will call you humor-less, and don’t understand the CYRs are “getting it done”, when all the points you bring up say otherwise.
The GOP here in Illinois is lost. They have time to make cutesy videos … but harvest those votes, get them to the polls, and get the percentage of non-voters swinging your way is not as cool as The YouTube.
- wordslinger -, I dunno what upsets me more, having to defend my belief that what is lacking in the GOP, or what the GOP is missing makes “no” sense in winning according the ILGOP leadership.
If I was suppose to cheer and smile and woop about a video than I am sorry. But I will not apologize for not seeing how doing this video is going to help get voters to the polls.
My only hope is that H & SGOP caucuses will do what is needed, not what is cute on The YouTube.
–But I will not apologize for not seeing how doing this video is going to help get voters to the polls.–
Yes, spending a significant amount of time on a blog is better. Please. The video is about volunteer engagement. I’m going to take a wild guess and say they will get a few more young people interested in phone banking. Gotta run to a phone bank.. see ya.

As you are making those calls, think … how is that call working to identilfy them, and THEN get them to the polls?
I think there is one of them YouTube videos to explain if need be.
