* The Chicago Young Republicans have a new music video about their call center

* From the lyrics

We need you so bad
And you should know that
We need you so, so bad

It’s hard to be right,
In Chicago,
But we’re all here
for a better tomorrow!

Hey, if you’re like me,
And going crazy,
The CYRs
We’re calling, baby

We’ll give you pizza
Plus some free beer
Why are you waiting?
Just get yourself here

Rate it.

While the CYRs are making a spoof of something (something a dope like myself usually does), the Speaker, the ILDems, and the H & sDems and are working.

Congratulations, you are a YouTube sensation. How about a lil less YouTube and a lil more focus on what is really important, like finding the GOP voters, harvesting the lists, and getting a game plan to get those critical votes from the list to the ballot boxes.

  2. - GOPops - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 12:40 pm:

Can we put up the Hannibal Lector again ?

  3. - Ray del Camino - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 12:43 pm:

    Gag me with a spoon.

  4. - And I Approved This Message - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 12:45 pm:

Dear CYRs - Sometimes when somebody has an idea like this, it’s OK just to leave it at the idea stage. Really.

  5. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 12:46 pm:

I dunn, guys. I bet local Chicago TV picks this up.

  6. - OneMan - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 12:48 pm:

Good golly are you all a bunch of sourpusses…

You know, it’s kind of funny and a video showing young people having fun with a Republican thing in Chicago. You know it isn’t a bad idea…

Lighten up Willy, I didn’t see Tom Cross or Jason Plumber in it…

  7. - phocion - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 12:53 pm:

Democracy in action! Good for them.

  8. - WazUp - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 12:55 pm:

Young people involved, no stuffed shirts, how could this be bad?

  9. - Ahoy! - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 12:59 pm:

    That was awful.

  10. - mokenavince - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:00 pm:

Young kids having a good time,I used to listen to the Lucky Strike hit parade. Harmless.

  11. - Lil' Enchilada - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:05 pm:

    Really bad.

  12. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:05 pm:

I would lighten up …but being in the Minority, having no say in how things are done in Illinois, and then realizing, while a good thing to blow off steam and get a good laugh, I see volunteers on the other side focused.

    77 days.

OneMan, if those new districts out our way go Dem, will videos like this make you all warm and fuzzy then too?

I get that the CYRs are trying to have fun … winning is real fun too.

  13. - J - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:07 pm:

There are something like 3 races that the Rs could win in the city. I honestly don’t care how they spend their time, because it doesn’t matter if they work hard or make Call Me Maybe videos from now until e-day.

  14. - Jimmy87 - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:11 pm:

Truly one of the worst things I’ve ever heard, it’s like the Exile on Main Street of bad music. How many people seriously had to green light this before actually putting it online? Wow.

  15. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:13 pm:

Adorable. Yay for youthful creativity and enthusiasm and not the same old tired and grumpy apathy! I love, love, love it!

  16. - Dan Bureaucrat - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:14 pm:

I’m with GOPops on this one. You can’t top yesterday. More people need to see that thing.

  17. - OneMan - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:16 pm:

    Ow,
If those districts out by us go dem it isn’t because a Chicago call center had some volunteers make a video one day…

It will be the fact one candidate lives on a fairway at White Eagle and that was used against her effectively.

It will be because another candidate made some ‘interesting’ decisions about what Republicans to hang out with and have help him in public ways with his campaign.

Finally I strongly suspect the CYR call center is not making calls in Kane, Kendall, Will and DuPage for state rep or state senate candidates.

  18. - Cheryl44 - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:21 pm:

These are Republicans–how can there be women in the video?

  19. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:28 pm:

    OneMan,

===It will be the fact one candidate lives on a fairway at White Eagle and that was used against her effectively.

It will be because another candidate made some ‘interesting’ decisions about what Republicans to hang out with and have help him in public ways with his campaign.===

Sounds to me …Lots of excuses for GOP “loses”, that haven’t even been loss yet, but we have the reasons.

It seems to me the ILGOP either has an excuse for why we cant’/don’t win, and/or why we don’t rally around the primary winners.

Keep the YouTube videos a-coming! Would be nice to see some mining for GOP voters for 2012, 2014 and beyond being accomplished and the numbers reflecting that.

Like I said; Looks like fun … winning is fun too.

  20. - Skeeter - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:29 pm:

Apparently, it is still 1986 in GOP-ville.

Who would watch this and want to do anything but cringe?

A sign saying “Make calls. Free Beer and Pizza” would be far more effective.

  21. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:31 pm:

=How about a lil less YouTube and a lil more focus on what is really important, like finding the GOP voters, harvesting the lists, and getting a game plan to get those critical votes from the list to the ballot boxes.=

I know many of our CYRS personally, Willy…and have for a very long time. They’re an extremely talented bunch. I’m sure that the song and production of the video took no time at all–just like the spoof that our Marines put out using the same song. And when our CYRS are back to work, you’ll notice them again, too. Just like our Marines.

Great job, Ladies and Gentleman! ;)

  22. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:40 pm:

Sorry. That obviously should have been:

    “Great job, Ladies and GentlemEn!”

  23. - OneMan - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:43 pm:

== Sounds to me …Lots of excuses for GOP “loses”, that haven’t even been loss yet, but we have the reasons.

Well Willy, I just figured you would blame Tom Cross if they lost, so whatever…

  24. - Ace Laredo - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:45 pm:

Good God. I’m glad they’re having fun because they work awfully hard, but talk about a Grade A Nerd Parade.

  25. - JL - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:50 pm:

I wonder if any them will be accompanying Tom Cross to Medinah on election day?

  26. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:51 pm:

    - Anonymous -,

I’ll take your word for it. I just remember Brady getting smoked by a GOTV loss, and then I see this, while cute and warm and fuzzy, reminds me of the turnout and the percentage of non-voting, and how many of them were Repubs? Actually, kudos to them for doing something, but mining for votes and GOTV are a sore subject. I know you wouldn’t steer me wrong.

    - OneMan -,

If, after all that has happened in Illinois politics, the ILGOP, the last election, and the ramifications, including this map, you STILL think Tom Cross has no blame, then I can’t help you no matter how cute you think the video is…

  27. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:52 pm:

    =Grade A Nerd Parade.=

I bet most of them would take that as a compliment…because it should be.

  28. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:54 pm:

The CYRs turned the most boring activity in all of politics and made it into a cute music video that will get more young people in the door to make calls for Romney. Good for them!

  29. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:55 pm:

Oswego Willy: “While the CYRs are making a spoof of something (something a dope like myself usually does), the Speaker, the ILDems, and the H & sDems and are working.”

On what? Not passing pension reform?

  30. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:56 pm:

Willy, I know them well enough to believe that they didn’t just put the video out to get themselves on TeeVee so that they could stare at themselves. Their objective was to recruit volunteers by being honest about who they are.

Our State could use more of such candor.

  31. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:57 pm:

Anonymous 1:55, couldn’t you at least put a “1″ or something behind your handle?

  32. - Sttrawberi - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:58 pm:

I love that young people are making engaging in the political process fun and accessible. . Nothing wrong with bringing some lightheartedness to what can often be such depressing politcal atmosphere. Love that there is a call to action too. Good work, now go make phone calls!!

  33. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 1:58 pm:

===On what? Not passing pension reform?===

    Winning… winning.

While the Dems can’t get anything done, the one thing they can do, easily, is beat the GOP, while the GOP beat themselves.

They are working at beating the GOP come November. It is that simple.

  34. - KGB - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 2:04 pm:

    Cute video. Decent looking folks.
Won’t get enough people in the door to make a difference in Chicago, though.

  35. - LincolnLounger - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 2:08 pm:

It’s a heck of a lot more effective than the Chicago GOP passing out Chick-Fil-A gift cards.

  36. - wndycty - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 2:13 pm:

As a partisan Democrat I give it an A for looking like they are having fun and for blowing off steam.

I can’t hate on the kids for something many campaigns I’ve worked on would have done with the time and resources.

But as a partisan Democrat I also give it an F for diversity.

  37. - amalia - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 2:13 pm:

    call you def not.

  38. - Skeeter - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 2:15 pm:

Hey GOP, instead of making videos, have you thought about taking positions that won’t make most women despise you? It seems like they took their eye off the ball.

Before people will make calls for you, they need to think that you are not evil.

Super Cute, Clever and Fun! Hope it works to keep that call center buzzing for our GOP Congressional candidates!

  41. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 2:26 pm:

It is on yahoo.com front page

  42. - Yellow Dog Democrat - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 2:27 pm:

Like Skeeter, I hope some enterprising reporter shows up at the CYR phone banks to ask some of those mice kids what they think of Paul Ryan and Cong. Akin’s plans to outlaw abortion in the cases of rape.

That said, its not THAT bad of a video, and I give credit to anyone who can make phonebanking sound like fun.

    A solid ‘B’.

  43. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 2:37 pm:

A better idea to get than topless women on the website.

Anything that gets Chicago Republicans attention that is not negative probably rates an “A.”

But it’s all in the follow-up. If they don’t wear out shoes knocking on doors, what’s the point?

  44. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 2:39 pm:

===But it’s all in the follow-up. If they don’t wear out shoes knocking on doors, what’s the point?===

    Thank YOU!!!!!

    I am not anti-fun, I am Pro-Win!!!

Well said, and thank you, - wordslinger -

===A better idea to get than topless women on the website.===

I read that part too fast … At least history is not repeating itself. Doing that might be too “Cheesy”

  46. - John Galt - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 3:11 pm:

Agreed, it’s all in the follow-up. But the CYRs are workers. At this point, other than high dollar fundraisers, the CYRs are the driving force of the GOP in Chicago right now. The tail is wagging the dog when it comes to the GOP in Chicago. Obviously that’s more a criticism of the regular party apparatus at this point, but as for professionalism and work ethic, the CYRs do deserve a good amount of credit.

And the video has already made Yahoo News:

    http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/young-republicans-call-maybe-video-recruit-volunteers-172727419.html

  47. - Malicious Swami - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 3:28 pm:

I hope the young dem campaign staffers fire back with something equally as ridiculous. Maybe use “lets get physical” and show how much they sweat as they tirelessly knock doors and push petitions–all while wearing unitards and scrunchy socks of course. Campaigning should be fun.

  48. - GetOverIt - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 3:31 pm:

I know these guys…in their mid 30’s and both have been trying to drum up support in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, especially amongst Latinos. The spot is brave to say the least, but that’s saying the most…thumbs down.

  49. - just sayin' - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 3:42 pm:

After 3 pitchers of Schiltz: ‘Hey, I got an idea for a video.’ I’ve seen far worse from pros.

  52. - Lighten Up - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 3:52 pm:

Although it goes on way longer than it should, I don’t see anything wrong with a bunch of young Chicago Republicans having a little fun and showing people that they are human and have a sense of humor.

It’s about time someone breathed a little life into the Republican Party. Way better than the “Fire Madigan” stunt at the State Fair.

Makes a nice contrast to the humorless, self-righteous Obama-nites.

  53. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 4:01 pm:

=Oh my god what a bunch of nerds. Absolutely awful. Really awful.=

lol I believe their slogan is “It’s hard to be right in Chicago.” Based on some of the comments on this thread, you have to admit that they are, in fact, insightful.

  57. - SJ2 - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 4:14 pm:

Selfishly…I’m very, very happy to see young voters engaged, and in such a positive and happy way. Good for them and great for the rest of us!

  58. - That Guy - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 4:22 pm:

It’s hard to be right in Chicago. Brilliant.

  59. - soccermom - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 4:50 pm:

I kinda like it. It looks like they’re having fun and would welcome new folks (at least, new folks who fit certain demographic profiles.) It can’t hurt, and it puts a more youthful, urban face on a state party that has defined itself primarily by old guys from downstate. (I use the term “old guys” in the way that my children use it to define my husband and me.)

  60. - 28 Special - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 6:36 pm:

This is a great video! Good for them. It’s always a good thing when young people take the time to make a difference in the political process.

  61. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 6:42 pm:

–the CYRs are the driving force of the GOP in Chicago right now–

That’s funny in and of itself, but it kind of proves the point.

When’s the last time you could get 60 comments in one day on the Chicago GOP?

I’ve been flabbergasted over the years that the Big Brains in the state GOP don’t really understand the math: they count counties, rather than voters.

The low point, of course, was 29% for Bill Brady in Cook. I didn’t think that was possible.

There’s gold in them thar Cook County hills. But you have to work it. The Dems do.

  62. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 7:35 pm:

    Be careful, - wordslinger -,

They will call you humor-less, and don’t understand the CYRs are “getting it done”, when all the points you bring up say otherwise.

The GOP here in Illinois is lost. They have time to make cutesy videos … but harvest those votes, get them to the polls, and get the percentage of non-voters swinging your way is not as cool as The YouTube.

    - wordslinger -, I dunno what upsets me more, having to defend my belief that what is lacking in the GOP, or what the GOP is missing makes “no” sense in winning according the ILGOP leadership.

If I was suppose to cheer and smile and woop about a video than I am sorry. But I will not apologize for not seeing how doing this video is going to help get voters to the polls.

My only hope is that H & SGOP caucuses will do what is needed, not what is cute on The YouTube.

  63. - Stiguy - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 8:19 pm:

    Here’s hope for change!

  64. - 28 Special - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 8:21 pm:

–But I will not apologize for not seeing how doing this video is going to help get voters to the polls.–

Yes, spending a significant amount of time on a blog is better. Please. The video is about volunteer engagement. I’m going to take a wild guess and say they will get a few more young people interested in phone banking. Gotta run to a phone bank.. see ya.

  65. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 8:30 pm:

===I’m going to take a wild guess and say they will get a few more young people interested in phone banking.===

You phone bank, then what? Are you using that info to get voters to the polls, because history has shown … there is a disconnect between the callin’ and the gettin’ of votes.

As you are making those calls, think … how is that call working to identilfy them, and THEN get them to the polls?

I think there is one of them YouTube videos to explain if need be.

  66. - Jimmy - Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 10:34 pm:

The frickin’ Republican glee club can’t even refrain from going negative - incredible - and not one word on what Romney or Ryan would do for the USA. All they have is Obamascare at this point.
