Here’s hoping that the GOP gives a prominent, prime-time shout-out to the 41st president of the United States.
The 18-year-old volunteer (he didn’t have to do that) who learned to fly at Navy Pier, landing on barges out on Lake Michigan, and was shot out of the sky over the Pacific, is pushing 90 and may not be around for the next convention.
He deserves one last moment in the spotlight and thanks from a grateful nation for his service and those of his generation. We all owe those old-timers everything. They left it better than they found it. Much better.
