Wills to leave Associated Press
Tuesday, Oct 2, 2012 - Posted by Rich Miller
* The AP’s Chris Wills e-mailed his colleagues in the Statehouse press room today…
Colleagues:
I wanted to let you know that I’m leaving the Associated Press after 22 years and taking a new job as spokesman for the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.
Being a reporter has been fun and challenging. It’s been an honor to work alongside many of you and reading (or hearing or watching) the great stories that everyone produces. But it’s time to try something new and face some new challenges.
My last day in the pressroom is Oct. 12.
My best to all of you.
Chris

Chris,
Sorry to hear that you’re leaving the Press Room, but best of luck at IHPA. I always looked forward to seeing your byline from the Statehouse. You always did a great job boiling down the most complex issues into something everyone could understand and learn from, not to mention keeping folks on their toes during pressers I’m sure our paths will cross again soon.
Another old Metropolis guy,
Jak

Congratulations to Chris, a great reporter and a very good guy. Although we hate to lose him from the ranks of working reporters, there’s a lot to be said for having someone with real journalism chops dispensing information to the press. I have no doubt that Chris will bring the same integrity and thoroughness to state government that he always exhibited in his reporting.

Now who’s gonna keep O’Conner in check?

“… taking a new job as spokesman for the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.”
There’s a critical position that just had to be filled.

Best wishes to Chris.
God, how I wish good reporters got better pay and working conditions, and could happily continue working for the public good.

Great for Chris, sad for Illinois journalism.

When historic preservation pays better than journalism, you know the economy has shifted. And good for historic preservation — do a great job there!

Well best of Luck Chris, loved your reporting! Still living at your previous domicile, Rhetta Jack and Laszlo Acs.

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate your kind words.
