  2. - Shore - Thursday, Oct 18, 12 @ 7:05 pm:

the first question is incredibly stupid of course they don’t like each other.

  3. - Shore - Thursday, Oct 18, 12 @ 7:10 pm:

walsh tries to be mr.civil and duckworth is also a horrible debater. Every debate she has a different physical facial look too. not a 1st class effort.

  4. - Shore - Thursday, Oct 18, 12 @ 7:12 pm:

arruza is being dishonest nascar is for troop recruiting. He should have said that.

  5. - Shore - Thursday, Oct 18, 12 @ 7:22 pm:

Walsh is more toned down tonight either because they are sitting on top of each other or because his team got it through to him not to act like a jerk. Every debate duckworth changes her stuff and moves further and further to the center suggesting a)her team knows what the rest of us know which is that she hasn’t been a very strong debater and needed help b)she couldn’t win just by being herself-tonight she embraced roskam legislation for the first time.

Arruza has done a horrible job, the first question was ridiculous, voters don’t care about how the candidates see each other. Then he asked a horrible question about nascar funding leaving out the critical detail that it was for troop recruiting. You have to be living in a cave to have not seem army advertising the last 30 years. WTTW also failed, they shorted this debate for an interview with preckwinkle which they could have done in 4 weeks when there’s not an election.

  6. - Shore - Thursday, Oct 18, 12 @ 7:28 pm:

Arruza asks walsh and I quote “if you are a racist or sexist”. That’s cute. Walsh announces he “made a pledge to myself” apparently to work really hard against his own re-election. Walsh says he’s had hundreds of town halls that have been taped-and nearly every one has ended up on capitol fax or cable news.

  7. - Shore - Thursday, Oct 18, 12 @ 7:29 pm:

a question about tammy’s service, if walsh is walsh he’ll step into this and crap on himself. stand by.

  8. - Shore - Thursday, Oct 18, 12 @ 7:30 pm:

walsh attacks her service inviting a nasty exchange and arruzza cuts off the debate where they could have had a revealing sparring. not a good questioning from him. paul green was a lot better last week.

  9. - Shore - Thursday, Oct 18, 12 @ 7:36 pm:

a question about mark kirk and jesse jackson, a mine field for walsh. walsh soft pedals then trashes jesse jackson. duckworth compares jackson to giffords, and praises senator kirk, the former statement could be used against her. Walsh’s answer on drones was one of the more interesting of the night. One of the big questions on the tea party has always been where they stand on foreign policy with some republicans fearing they would be ron paul like on fp, he clearly isn’t ron paul, but he’s also not as right leaning as cheney.

  10. - Shore - Thursday, Oct 18, 12 @ 7:38 pm:

duckworth goes walsh like nuclear on abortion saying that walsh would prefer to let women die. She should not have waited all night to do this war on women thing. another fail.

another goofy why do you care question. arggh.

  11. - Rich Miller - Thursday, Oct 18, 12 @ 7:40 pm:

    That’s it?

  12. - Rich Miller - Thursday, Oct 18, 12 @ 7:41 pm:

    Thanks shore

  13. - Wensicia - Thursday, Oct 18, 12 @ 7:41 pm:

I think Duckworth nailed it…she kept Walsh on the defensive.

  14. - Shore - Thursday, Oct 18, 12 @ 7:56 pm:

I am a republican and have tended to be pro walsh because he’s anti-gop establishment so you can take my stuff for what it was. Duckworth was better but she’s a very flawed candidate, beyond her personal story which she doesn’t tell very well and her machine ties. she just looks more like clay someone else has molded than a candidate who is in this because she wants to be and she wants to be elected. She waited the entire night until the end to get her best war on women shots in against walsh and didn’t make any kind of a case on the economy.

Walsh reminded me of wild thing vaughn in one of the 2 major league movies where he trades in his wild thing shtick for a civil human being and it didn’t fit him well. Duckworth will probably win this race not because of her or her team which has turned a sure blowout into a nailbiter but because of a political system tilted heavily in her favor.

WTTW did a horrible job with this debate. Arruzza’s questions were unprofessional for someone like him who takes his job seriously. Asking a congressman if he is a racist or sexist is beyond deplorable. He also wasted 2 questions on whether the candidates like each other which is not what voters care about. WTTW gave the debate 30 minutes, they’ve given scott fawell that amount of time to talk about softball at yankton at least a half dozen times in the last 9 months. They have 2 more chances with the dold debate and biggert debate to prove they can handle major league pitching. I’d suggest not having the candidates sit on top of each other and letting them respond to questions.

His abortion comments are going to end badly for him.
