As part of a plan to keep non-government employees away the state commission on acronyms planned their party well…

  2. - OneMan - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 9:40 am:

The Office Of Management and budget on October 30th…

Eat until the food is gone…

Every other day of the year..

Spend until the money is gone (before the end of the fiscal year).

Please disregard, the food was gone 18 months ago.

  5. - Yossarian Lives - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 9:48 am:

The only thing scarier than our budgets is taco meat cooked in the Stratton.

  6. - CircularFiringSquad - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 9:52 am:

And who was saying the State House press corp would miss out on “news” by moving to the Stratton Building :) In less than a year they have disclosed two pot luck lunches
We smell Pulitzer right around the corner.

  7. - OneMan - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 9:52 am:

Sadly as a fundraiser it was a bust since many people went and paid for their food but were informed they would get it 3 to 9 months later when food would actually be available.

  8. - OneMan - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 9:57 am:

A small riot took place today when some union members were informed that although the flyer said Nachos $4 a plate, they had to pay $5 because the Nacho vendor charged more for cheese than expected and there was just not enough $4 Nacho’s to go around.

Our tax dollars hard at work!!

  12. - 1776 - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 10:19 am:

Today, Governor Quinn announced that funds would be swept from the State Employee Combined Appeal (SECA) originally intended to benefit the United Way in order to fund his pension reform campaign. According to Quinn, it will only take 22 tacos and 4 nachos to start the website and get the program launched.

  13. - OneMan - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 10:23 am:

Well that is one way to produce some grassroots fertilizer

  14. - 3rd Generation Chicago Native - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 10:25 am:

We are going to fundraise by frightening everyone with our take on Southern food since the theme is for the Southern Early Childhood Association.

For Christmas we will fundraise for a Northern Group with our take on Northern food.

  15. - Downstate gal - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 10:36 am:

Is that taco $2 before sales tax, or after?

  16. - Soccertease - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 10:38 am:

All money raised goes to SECA (State Employees Contingency Account)

  17. - wordslinger - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 10:39 am:

Why is a rat stealing the broom? Is the event catered by The Rathskeller (take that any way you want)?

  18. - Robert the Bruce - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 10:39 am:

Abdon Pallasch of the Governor’s budget office acknowledged today that the state may need to find other areas to cut after realizing that less savings than expected will come from bundling purchases.

This contradicted Gov. Quinn’s earlier statement that “Nachos cost $4. Dessert costs $1. But if we bundle these purchases together, through efficiencies, nachos and dessert will only cost $5!”

  19. - OneMan - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 10:47 am:

The inspector general was standing by to investigate if anyone took food back to their desk to eat..

  20. - Mouthy - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 11:01 am:

Many good charities are helped by SECA. I worked on and supported many a campaign and always directed my payroll deductions to local charities.

  21. - Anon - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 11:17 am:

How much in travel and lodging expenses will the Chicago folks charge state govt. to attend this function…. oh, I forget it’s “their” budget after all…. and THEY want to cut employee benefits to pay for THEIR junkets.

  27. - Responsa - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 12:02 pm:

At the governor’s suggestion we are planning a Mighty Mississippi River cruise ending in historic Cairo as our next fundraiser. You can sign up at the lunch if you might be interested. Also state the maximum amount you’d be willing to spend.

Don’t have a ghost of a chance to sweep this mess under the rug.

  40. - Some Guy - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 8:06 pm:

Please congratulate this party’s planner for her upcoming appointment to plan the ISFA Thanksgiving Day Spectacular.

  41. - Some Guy - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 8:08 pm:

Sorry everybody who came late–we planned on having more tacos but the House gave us too little meat and the Senate made us buy more cafeteria/prison-grade beans than we wanted. Don’t even ask about the brownies we promised…

  42. - Quizzical - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 8:10 pm:

When asked why his Budget Office was holding a charity lunch for the 80’s porn star Seka, Governor Quinn equivocated, “I can’t say it’s always wrong to sell tacos to support former actresses..wasn’t the statue of liberty a former actress? I stand by everything my office has done, thought I can’t say it was exactly right. People have got to know that my administration stands for things, that’s the way we do things here in Illinois….”

  43. - Why - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 8:31 pm:

What exactly is the point of trashing a group of people for doing something for charity? Is this really what we have come to?

  44. - My Better Half - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 8:32 pm:

Hmmm. Now I have a little better understanding of why the State budget and finances are under water. Usually when you offer a combo, you do it for a discounted price. (Hey, that’s how you get folks to buy more product. Or so I’ve been told.)

  45. - Some Guy - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 10:08 pm:

Next week, the Speaker’s office is having an election-day spectacular. All elected Democrats and Pat Brady eat free, as does Oswego Willy if he brings back a scorecard signed by Tom Cross…

  46. - Two man - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 10:14 pm:

GOMB- The only place where common sense says Tacos at Halloween.

Stay tuned for the Cinco De Mayo fundraiser with Pumpkin Pie.

  47. - RNUG - Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 10:18 pm:

    Why @ 8:31 PM,

I have no problem trashing SECA. I got a bad taste in my mouth many years ago when the SECA payroll deduction forms were given to me with my “contribution” amount already filled in on the form … and I was expected to just sign it.

I realize that was probably done on the agency director’s orders but that was the year I stopped contributing to SECA … had they left the form blank, I would have upped my monthly contribution just like I had for the previous ten years. Actually, I know it was done at the director’s order because I was hauled into his office twice and lectured about not contributing and how he wanted 100% participation by his employees.

After that experience, I never again contributed to charity via SECA … I wrote checks directly to the charities of my choice.

  48. - over the top - Tuesday, Oct 30, 12 @ 11:42 am:

    First draft:
    $4 Nachos
    $2 Tacos
    $1 Dessert

Budget Analyst, “Its not that simple!”
