And it begins
Friday, Apr 5, 2013 - Posted by Rich Miller * As noted below, the governor was quite pleased with himself for raising half a million dollars last month. Well, Lisa Madigan just filed an A-1 today totaling $740,315. It’s on, campers. …Adding… For perspective, AG Madigan raised $797,231 in the first six months of 2009.

Where is the breakdown on her financial support?
- Oswego Willy - Friday, Apr 5, 13 @ 2:33 pm:
Boy, Lisa is going to make her Re-Election for AG real easy …that is what that means…right?
Oh, “It’s On, Like Donkey Kong”.
- horseracer - Friday, Apr 5, 13 @ 2:34 pm:
Of course she did. Her father is Speaker Michael J. Madigan.

Dude, click the links. It’s really not that difficult.
- Norseman - Friday, Apr 5, 13 @ 2:37 pm:
Cave, Rich had a nice link to the report. I scanned real quick. Didn’t count the number or amount, but Lisa has a mighty respectable list of union donors. It looks like more donations and more money from the labor front.
- Inquisitive - Friday, Apr 5, 13 @ 2:38 pm:
Looking through this, I see more than a few state contractors. I would love to see an analysis of her donations over the past year to see what % of current Lisa donors would be prohibited from contributing to her if she were declared candidate for Governor. Sounds like an #internproject.
- Rich Miller - Friday, Apr 5, 13 @ 2:44 pm:
horseracer, a state employee who has a history of aggressively defending the governor, now goes to the daddy line.
Yep. It’s on. Both sides.
lol
- Snucka - Friday, Apr 5, 13 @ 2:44 pm:
Not a bad haul. I’d be interested to see who got more from some of the big contributors.
- OneMan - Friday, Apr 5, 13 @ 2:46 pm:
$452,100 were transfers in
$288,215 were Individual contributions
The Individual donations came from 38 different cities, with Chicago leading the way at $187,500 (she does not do as well in Winnetka as Bruce did)
The following appear to have given 50,000 or more
Engineers Political Education Committee
UA Political Action Fund
Laborers’ Political League Education Fund

Yeah, when I read the Sun-Times story, I thought the writer kind of overlooked the A-1 issue…
- Price Waterhouse - Friday, Apr 5, 13 @ 2:51 pm:
15 or 20 million more and they will have some Bruce money to talk about.
- Joe Bidenopolous - Friday, Apr 5, 13 @ 2:52 pm:
So to recap, this little A-1 outpaced the Gov’s recent contris by roughly $250k. At the last quarter pole, she already had a roughly $2.4M cash advantage ($3.4M to $1.0M), so now she has a $2.6-$2.7M advantage.
Great week for Quinn! He didn’t fall behind by all that much for the reporting period! It’s an UP day
- Arthur Andersen - Friday, Apr 5, 13 @ 2:54 pm:
Price, welcome to the blog!
Let’s meet up and cross foot sometime lol.
- Oswego Willy - Friday, Apr 5, 13 @ 2:56 pm:
- Price Waterhouse -,
lol
How about this, Lisa will even let Bruce say anything he wants, especially about shutting down the state and crahsing the Pensions.
Deal?
To the Post,
The “head to head” breakouts of specific Union contributions and specific Locals and amounts for Quinn and for Lisa accordingly are probably what is going to interest me most.
Hedging is hedging, but money can be measured… pretty accurately.
- langhorne - Friday, Apr 5, 13 @ 3:00 pm:
will her big money make daley “rethink” his desires yet again? lets see how much he raises when the time comes.
- Arthur Andersen - Friday, Apr 5, 13 @ 3:00 pm:
Also worth noting, but not surprising:
$10k from the IEA and $25k from the IFT.
One of our regulars has to be pleased about that.
- Skeptic Tank - Friday, Apr 5, 13 @ 3:11 pm:
Quinn should give up and run for AG instead. He’d have so much fun in that position where he could rail against the cause of the day without having to do much governing
- Anonymous - Friday, Apr 5, 13 @ 3:18 pm:
Lisa’s haul exploits a huge loophole in the pay-to-play ban. Since she is not an announced candidate for Governor, she can (and apparently has) raised significant sums from state contractors. The Governor, of course, is barred from doing likewise. While them’s the rules, I can’t help but think it’s a bit untoward.
- Yup - Friday, Apr 5, 13 @ 3:24 pm:
@Anon
Cue the 30 second ads….”Why did Lisa Madigan take so long to declare her candidacy for Governor? So she could raise money from state contractors, exploiting a loophole in the state’s pay-to-play law.”

Hey Anon, which “contractors” are you talking about? From the list, I see 3 engineering firms, over 20 lawyers and law firms, and more labor unions than that. The “loophole” in pay to play is allowing labor unions to contribute to a Governor, candidate, or potential candidate with whom they will negotiate pay and benefits.

AA I will take the bait! There went 35 K that could bury a few state reps in mailers and the expenses of door knockers for their primary opposition!
I know some people who will be sending them the message.
BTW At least one of those is hitting up members for extra political donations But the embers cant get pledges on how its spent
- Just sayin - Friday, Apr 5, 13 @ 4:10 pm:
Anonymous, you mean unlike the gov giving union 4.2% steps back to July 2012 and every year to come, plus 2% colas in 2013 and 2014…. And taking donations from them? All while pushing the tiny mc population to pay freezes and cuts? Ie the contributors got the money, but the non contributing workers got the shaft
- qcexaminer - Friday, Apr 5, 13 @ 4:14 pm:
Could someone please explain what the difference will be in Illinois government if Lisa Madigan is governor with a Dem legislative majority as opposed to what Illinois government will be with Pat Quinn as governor with a Dem legislative majority?
It seems the narrative here is that the solution to the problems with a Dem controlled government is to just elect more and/or different Dems.
The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
If you think Illinois government is fine and dandy—vote Democrat!
- ZC - Friday, Apr 5, 13 @ 5:24 pm:
qcexaminer, you have a point, but only up to a point.
Your thesis assumes an underlying level of competence in the state Republican Party that you feel confident must be there. But I’m not.
As Romney learned, you can’t run simply as the anti-incumbent and assume that’s enough. The state GOP still needs to provide the state with a vision that’s more specific than, “We’re not the Democrats.”
