Today’s e-mail
Monday, May 6, 2013 - Posted by Rich Miller
* I received this bulk campaign e-mail from Sheila Simon last week…
Dear Rich,
People are talking — about the future of Illinois and who can lead us forward.
Working families are worried about their pensions. Parents need to know their children are safe. As Lt. Governor, I am an advocate for Illinois. I strive to be a voice for what’s right, even if it isn’t easy.
In case you missed it, I took that message straight to one of the top political reporters in our state on Monday. Watch my interview with Carol Marin on Chicago Tonight by clicking HERE
Can you help me build momentum by donating $50 or $100 today? Early support will help me stand out as the most effective advocate for reform.
Thank You,
Sheila
P.S. If you believe I’m the candidate to watch, forward this email to two of your friends and ask them to sign up for my email list. You all will be among the first to know my plans for the future!
* A full five days later, I got this e-mail from Simon’s campaign…
Dear Rich
Last week, we sent an email featuring Sheila’s interview with Chicago Tonight’s Carol Marin. We apologize for the broken link and want to thank those who caught the mistake!
You can watch the entire interview by clicking HERE.
Sheila Simon has been a constant advocate for working families in our state. With your help, Sheila will be able to serve our state in a larger role.
Thank you,
Bill Doerrer
Political Director

This a message to anyone who wants to take on Sheila in a primary: You will probably win.
- Deep South - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 11:14 am:
Simon must have some rookies running her fund raising/campaign operation.

“You all will be among the first to know my plans for the future!”
Her plans for the future? You mean the bar where she will be playing? Or which law firm she will be joining?
Although I might find those thing slightly interesting, I really don’t need to be among the first to know.
- soccermom - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 11:20 am:
Did you ask what their open rate is? If it took five days to notice that the link was broken…
- soccermom - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 11:26 am:
I gotta say — full respect to Team Quinn for hacking WTTW’s site.
- MrGrassroots - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 11:28 am:
A good argument for hiring “anal” staff!
- Oswego Willy - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 11:32 am:
I think the grace period of following an email with a ‘corrected’ email is about 6-7 …hours, so this one might be a tad late to the party.
I, for one, am glad I am NOT getting my sports scores through the Sheila Simon email package ….
“Bears lose and the hockey lockout appears to be over an abbreciated season should be starting real soon …that’s the sports for May 6th, check your ‘email’ mailbox for up to the minute action.”
Yikes.
- soccermom - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 11:36 am:
Okay, to be fair — I will say that there’s something about hitting “send” that makes previously invisible typos jump off the page and sends seemingly healthy and robust links directly to the boneyard.
- Oswego Willy - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 11:37 am:
Maybe Oberweis’ ‘Political Director’ can send Sheila’s ‘Political Director’ some ’sympathy/politcal ice cream”?
- Chavez-respecting Obamist - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 11:49 am:
Is she running for something?

Capt Fax
What part was the opps?
1.That outfit Marin had on some green scarf tucked into a black sweater covered by a tan blaser
2. Using that much time on Chicago Tonight
3.Admitting the first link to WTTW-TV did not work —as you report it took FIVE DAYS to notice
The lite gov is talented and has a lot of options

Price you pay for hiring young, inexperienced folks …
- Anon - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 12:03 pm:
Awww give the guy a break. Like mentioned above, links always seem to go dead after you send em.
We have all made mistakes like this. Every elected official has made mistakes like this. This time they were just unfortunate enough to catch some publicity.
For all we know the link wasn’t even dead when sent, right?
- CircularFiringSquad - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 12:17 pm:
Who said the WTTW folks were young or inexperienced?
- Wumpus - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 1:10 pm:
Was it sent from her state (Lt Guv) email account? Because like the state, the link is broke!
- Arthur Andersen - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 1:13 pm:
CFS is also the fashion police? Impressive. Never woulda noticed the serial faux pas.
To the post, Not Ready For Prime Time.
- OneMan - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 1:51 pm:
Well considering the two-step she did around the pension question I bet they were thankful the link didn’t work…
Also seriously, did it take days for someone to point out the link didn’t work or days for them to respond to that. Either way, not a good sign.
- Robert the Bruce - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 2:34 pm:
==We have all made mistakes like this. Every elected official has made mistakes like this.==
It isn’t the mistake itself that makes Simon and her campaign look not ready for primetime; it is the five days to correct the mistake that does.
- Anon - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 2:36 pm:
Ah I think I figured it out.
The link wasn’t “broken” in the traditional sense.
It was just linked to a page where the url was pasted twice. Almost like trying to go to http://capitolfax.comhttp://capitolfax.com.
So a typo.
- Doug - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 3:36 pm:
Why do old people always rag on young people. The link was screwed up. That is all. They didn’t use bad grammar, or swear, the link didn’t work. They took responsibility for it, which is better than some people when mistakes are made. I just think you old people should stop using youth as your root of jealousy.
- titan - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 3:37 pm:
It sure is embarrassing if it took 5 days for anyone ot actually click it and thus find the problem.
- L.S. - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 3:56 pm:
“Price you pay for hiring young, inexperienced folks”
More like the price you pay for taking in people that were cast off from both House and Senate Dem operations.
- Endangered Moderate Species - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 4:15 pm:
Regardless of the URL issue, I have other problems with this email. It just seems to be tacky.
IMO- She is not a prime-time player.
Sheila running for a statewide office (other than Lt. Gov) will give the GOP some much needed hope.
- just sayin' - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 5:47 pm:
You mean the Carol Marin interview where she wouldn’t endorse Quinn for re-election or take a side on the pension debate?
- NW IL Democrat - Monday, May 6, 13 @ 7:47 pm:
Doug
It ain’t jealousy. Simon is a lightweight with a lightweight staff. Get over it.
