I agree with anything she says.

    Nice set of signs!

    There was a sign?

I am not sure what she said but for some reason I am resigning as a Hyde Park progressive and becoming a DuPage tea partier. Not sure how that happened.

There’s a piece of fashion advice involving colors that I once read a female rock star (well, in some quarters) repeat, followed by the statement “this is life changing information.” The advice would fit here.

My goodness this borders on the President’s “admiration” of the California Attorney General. Unless she is an actress, which I suspect she is, she represents a demographic shift for the usual Roeser follower.

  19. - Quizzical - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:09 pm:

Always prescient and a big fan of The Capitol Fax, President Obama years ago ordered the IRS to scrutinize Tea Party 501c4 applications just so Rich would eventually post this video.

  35. - HenryVK - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:34 pm:

    HisGirl,

Were you actually expecting maturity here? Have you ever read any of the CC threads?

  36. - Fred's Mustache - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:36 pm:

=== Really thought this blog was better than headlights jokes just because the person expressing a political opinion happens to be a female. Guess its not? ===

There are not “headlights” jokes just because the person expressing a political opinion happens to be a woman… There are many women that wouldn’t have elicited this response.

  37. - TCB12 - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:36 pm:

    Umm, bookmarked.

  38. - Rich Miller - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:38 pm:

    Good point!

  39. - Louis G. Atsaves - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:38 pm:

  40. - hisgirlfriday - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:39 pm:

  41. - Rich Miller - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:40 pm:

No need to get off the soapbox.

You’re absolutely right, Mustache. I’ll bet she’s a Republican; possibly a young Conservative. (Should I add “Sorry, guys?)

  43. - Hot or not - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:41 pm:

Rich is just upset because he has a bigger rack than the woman in this video.

  44. - Walter - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:43 pm:

How I know you’re parroting (knowingly or not) talking points? Use the phrase “infringing on our rights.”

  45. - Anonymous - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:44 pm:

= actually I appreciate you posting it as it serves as a reminder of why so few women run for office.=

Actually, many of the beautiful, confident women I know wouldn’t allow crass or borderline-crass comments to get in their way. They’d acknowledge the remark as a compliment and move forward.

  46. - Demoralized - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:47 pm:

Did the IRS pay for those? She just increased the IRS’ favorability rating by tenfold.

It’s also a chance to tweak Rich for a momentary lapse … he knows his commentators are merciless and it’s not often Rich leaves himself open.

  48. - Jorge - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:48 pm:

I doubt Harry Reid would have stood much of a chance against this Tea Partier.

  49. - Anonymous - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:49 pm:

And, their female friends–who can appreciate beauty in addition to their values, would fully support them in their run for office, rather than making them, or trying to position them as, “victims.”

  50. - soccermom - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:51 pm:

Oh goodness. Am I the only person who finds it amazingly coincidental that this conservative videographer managed to find this young woman who (although charming and attractive) seems to know very little about this issue, but who had a lovely figure and was wearing a shirt that made her figure far more noticeable than her message?

  51. - Rich Miller - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:53 pm:

===but who had a lovely figure and was wearing a shirt that made her figure far more noticeable than her message? ===

I think that was the whole point.

= Am I the only person who finds it amazingly coincidental that this conservative videographer managed to find this young woman who (although charming and attractive) seems to know very little about this issue….=

She’s young and possibly distracted by the fact that she’s being interviewed, soccerman. Either way, give her time.

  53. - East Central Illinois - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:57 pm:

Message??? There was a message??? Guess I’m gonna have to view the video again (sigh)

  54. - walkinfool - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:58 pm:

Glad she’s active. Maybe she’ll eventually learn the details of what she’s protesting.

  55. - ArchPundit - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:59 pm:

===I think that was the whole point.

And the framing that barely ever got the whole sign in, but never didn’t have her figure. While I understand the humor, it kinda says a lot about a supposedly pro-family group using this. And that’s really funny.

  56. - 47th Ward - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 3:59 pm:

===I think that was the whole point.===

Just to test that theory, I watched it again with the sound off. I’m pretty sure that Rich is correct, but I may need to watch it again to be really sure.

  57. - wordslinger - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 4:02 pm:

Nice to see Mrs. Schafly back on the front lines.

The message on the sign is lost on me. Is that some sort of Tea Party code?

  58. - ugggghhhhh - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 4:06 pm:

there’s no way someone with a pair like that should be allowed to expect to be taken seriously based on what she has to say. What do you say, guys, start ignoring what comes out of ladies’ mouths because oh-my-god-they’re-so-hot after they reach a B cup? a C cup? depends on the face?

(we are all responsible for a culture that produced only 20 female senators in effing 2012. if you think your harmless comments aren’t part of a structural problem, you’re wrong)

  59. - RNUG - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 4:07 pm:

  61. - East Central Illinois - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 4:10 pm:

    @ Ugggghhhhhhh ” . . . comments aren’t part of a structural problem . . . ”

I see no structural problem what so ever - - at least in the video

  62. - Give Me A Break - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 4:11 pm:

Well Rich at least it’s not another pic of Oscar.

  63. - drew - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 4:16 pm:

When the video does manage to get the whole sign on the screen, all it says is “SIT DOWN, SHUT UP, OR ELSE” … and then “IRS” in tiny print in the bottom corner. I find it pretty unlikely that any of the passing drivers had any idea what message she was trying to convey based on that sign. But they seemed to appreciate her presence none the less.

  64. - HenryVK - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 4:17 pm:

    Uughh,

You seem to believe that there is some inherent contradiction between taking her seriously and admiring her appearance.

    Why not both?

What’s wrong with “I appreciate her message and the appreciate the way she looks while delivering the message”?

  65. - the Patriot - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 4:19 pm:

If she runs for Guv, Lisa is done. She is just as articulate, and well, looks do matter!

…From the AP…Quinn announces his running mate for 2014…IRS girl!

Reuters projects Quinn re-elected in a landslide!

  66. - drew - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 4:20 pm:

  75. - Anon - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 4:46 pm:

==What’s wrong with “I appreciate her message and the appreciate the way she looks while delivering the message”?==

I’d love to agree, but let’s be honest, that’s a completely moot point. Who on this blog is appreciating/commenting on her message? Or even, I don’t know, really paying attention to it?

This is just a chance for the good old boys to be good old boys. Welcome to politics.

I suppose I’m just a little disappointed in a blog that constantly says to “keep it clean”, but then allows rampant sexist commentary just because it’s directed at an attractive woman.

  76. - Colossus - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 4:48 pm:

To steer this back into more “high minded” territory:

So…..what’s the difference between this and the interviews with the absolute worst of the OWS protesters who didn’t know what they were doing either? (Other than personal hygiene)

There will always be people protesting things without understanding the big picture, much less the nuances. If finding ignorant (in the classic sense) protesters is sufficient to discredit OWS, why aren’t the ignorant protesters on the right enough to discredit this “scandal”?

  77. - hisgirlfriday - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 4:53 pm:

@anonymous 3:44/3:49 - I made this woman a victim and don’t appreciate beauty just because I think jokes about headlights at the expense of some random political activist who chose to wear a tank top on a hot day are beneath this blog and creepy comments toward women generally reduce the likelihood of them being willing to put themselves forth for public office? Good to know.

Also interesting argument you have there that because women you know put up with creepy comments that it means those comments are just swell. I guess racial slurs are appropriate in political discourse too because hey I know lots of racial minorities who never let stuff like the n word getting them down.

I don’t mean to be all preachy here because I do recognize all that was said here was in jest and not with ill intent but there a posters here who jumped instantly into the locker room jokes that I would not have expected which prompted me to remark on my disappointment rather than just shake my head and keep moving without comment.

  78. - Jake from Elwood - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 5:00 pm:

Rich, you threw out the red meat today.
The Archie Bunkers and the Gloria Steinems all had their say. Enjoyed the posts even more than the video.
    Steak Tartare for everyone.

  79. - Centennial - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 5:07 pm:

Oy. Lowest common denominator this afternoon.

For the record, Dem girls can put a coherent sentence together AND wear a tank top at the same time. Just sayin…

  80. - Anonymous - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 5:15 pm:

=For the record, Dem girls can put a coherent sentence together AND wear a tank top at the same time.=

    Good for you!

  81. - soccermom - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 5:26 pm:

Oh, it wasn’t clear that there was a whole “protest,” given that there was nobody else in the frame. Not to get all communications-y, but if you’re going to use a young woman with a large chest to draw attention to your cause, it would be useful to include some information about that cause on your “news” channel?

  82. - Anon - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 5:36 pm:

Nevermind the odd woman in the video — who seems unsure of why she’s there yet strangely thrilled at the honking.

I’m bothered by the intolerance of the message. Sit down and shut up? Bizarre.

  83. - Anonymous - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 5:37 pm:

If you’re digging for information pertaining to a specific timeline, soccermom, I can’t help you there. I’m certainly not going to make silly assumptions about a timeline, or whether this is part of a formal messaging campaign–or use your comment as an opportunity to toss out a catty remark about anyone.

Right now, it is what it is: a beautiful, young woman peacefully and lawfully doing what she believes is right.

  84. - Anonymous - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 5:39 pm:

As best she knows how at this stage of her life, Anon.

  85. - Big D - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 5:40 pm:

Well, she’s certainly a more appealing spokesperson for the Tea Party than Joe Walsh.

  86. - Anonymous - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 5:45 pm:

And just in case anyone is interested, I’d say all the things I’ve said on this thread today (or the “Democratic equivalent” of same) even if this should wind up being a young Democrat who is just getting involved in politics. Although, there’s a good chance that I might disagree with her position on the issue.

    Would you?

  87. - Arthur Andersen - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 5:58 pm:

With or without her, the Tea Party is still goofy.

In other news, Police in the area are looking for a middle-aged man in a minivan with license plate OSWGOWLY after the subject vehicle nearly hit a school bus while ah, observing the protest.

  88. - Arthur Andersen - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 6:03 pm:

Keep the Oscar stuff coming, Rich! He has many fans out here, but you know that lol

  89. - Anonymous - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 6:07 pm:

  93. - Arthur Andersen - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 6:22 pm:

Willy, I took care of it. I called and told them that if it was you, you were doing con$ulting work for a Lt. Gov. candidate.

  96. - Meaningless - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 6:35 pm:

I actually watched the video and listened to her message. I wasn’t convinced that she had a sincere interest in the cause, but maybe that was because she was distracted by all the honking!

  97. - Anonymous - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 6:35 pm:

Mouthy, how long did it take you to come up with that one?

  98. - Anonymous - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 6:37 pm:

Two comments, now that I’m off work:

    1) Rich - No, it’s not too late now. You could take it down. I’m going to be an optimist and hold your blog to a higher standard.

    2) As a somewhat attractive young woman who has run for office (but never stood alongside a road wearing a shirt like that and holding a sign that makes no sense), I disagree with Anonymous 3:44. Yes, if you offer yourself to the public as a political figure, you’re going to get rude comments. Yes, you have to brush them off and not let them bother you and just keep doing what you’re doing. But I find ludicrous the notion that to succeed in politics, a woman must take crass remarks about her body as compliments. No, sir.

  107. - Gregor - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 10:33 pm:

=But I find ludicrous the notion that to succeed in politics, a woman must take crass remarks about her body as compliments.=

That’s a big JUMP there, isn’t it, Yossarian, claiming that I had said “that to succeed in politics, a woman must…?”

  111. - Anonymous - Thursday, May 23, 13 @ 11:52 pm:

And, BTW, Yossarian. Under the circumstances, I’d really like to know what YOU would do. Based on your comment, it sounds as if you may believe everything should be judged by what is said during that one instance and resolved immediately at the time the comment is made–which I’d argue very few women, especially younger ones can usually handle very well.

Am I wrong in assuming that you believe an immediate “reaction” is required and that it will always benefit the woman? Rather than, perhaps, giving yourself some time to think about maybe, the severity of the comment, the chance that such behavior will continue, etc?

And again, if my assumption about “urgency” is in fact accurate, exactly what would you do–especially in a situation where there is no sex harassment policy, there is no HR Department, and there probably are no grounds for a suit?

What would YOU do “on the spot, Yossarian? React, or think?

=I am not sure what she said but for some reason I am resigning as a Hyde Park progressive and becoming a DuPage tea partier. Not sure how that happened.=

Welcome, wndycty. Those who love our Country and our State are ALWAYS welcome. We’re sometimes “dysfunctional,” but we have more in common than we don’t.

  118. - :( - Friday, May 24, 13 @ 2:57 am:

DAYMM Rich, why you gotta show how sexist Springfield is? It wasn’t even funny.

I would like to pickets to titsburg please!!

    (likely won’t see this one but I had to say it}

  122. - Yellow Dog Democrat - Friday, May 24, 13 @ 8:23 am:

    In her defense:

    1. Most protesters, other than veteran groups like the unions, can’t articulate what they are protesting.

    2. I have seen far more visually shocking protests from the left, particularly PETA and the anti- WTO crowd. Protests should be visually shocking. Ask the guys who drive the Ratmobile.

    3. if, in fact, she did work for Congressman Walsh, that is noteworthy and should be disclosed. She should not be passing herself off as “just another concerned citizen,” and rule #1 and #2 don’t apply. Congressional staffers, past or present, should know what they are protesting, and operatives should not inject themselves into the story.

    4. Man or woman, physical appearance can be a double-edged sword, just ask John “Haircut” Edwards. At the same time, aside from ugliest dog and ugliest bartender contests, I cant recall anyone having a leg-up on the competition because they were aesthetically impaired.

How refreshing to gaze at such a beautiful girl that shares my views!

  124. - South of I-80 - Friday, May 24, 13 @ 8:28 am:

Last time I go to a meeting without checking out C F first!! By the way, did she say something about the FRACKING issue?!?!?

Rich gets the award for most creative way to manipulate political website hits. Matt Drudge is kicking himself in the pants for not finding this first!

  126. - hisgirlfriday - Friday, May 24, 13 @ 8:38 am:

    @sunshine

    1) its two not to

    2) pittsburgh has an h on the end

    3) and no you didn’t HAVE TO post the word “tits” on this blog. Internet tourettes isn’t a real thing. You’re actually just a creep.

    Too entertaining…. Video and posts.

  128. - Yossarian Lives - Friday, May 24, 13 @ 8:56 am:

There is a big difference between reacting in the way you seem to mean (shrieking? name-calling? threatening to report the offending commenter? I’m trying to imagine what you’re assuming I would do…) and declining to take a comment as a compliment. There is a way (and yes, even I as a young woman know this) to subtly make it clear that a comment was unwelcome and inappropriate without making a scene.

Do only women react rather than stopping to think in the heat of the moment, Anonymous? Oh, and please do us the courtesy of picking a handle next time.

  129. - Samurai - Friday, May 24, 13 @ 9:57 am:

Sorry Yossarian–Handle inadvertently omitted. No offense intended. Not sure why you are so upset.

Oh, I’m certainly aware of that, Yossarian. And sometimes a well-delivered and sly “Thank you” accompanied perhaps by raised eyebrows works wonders.

  132. - danny - Friday, May 24, 13 @ 2:21 pm:

I’m glad that now we actually know what will come out when we’re not prompted to “keep it clean”. I expected more from this crowd, but now I guess when it comes down to it, there’s always going to be a “boys will be boys” culture we have to deal with if we ever want gender equality in our political system.
