“… Chicago, Springfield, Marion and Bloomington, along with massive storms and massive SCOTUS rulings to distract from my lack of a proofreader.

Or so we campaign my thought and have planned.”

If only it weren’t for that darn Rich Miller.

Ack! Staff mistake. Someone is burying their head underneath their desk right now. Happens to everyone, just annoying to have it happen on Day #1.

  3. - railrat - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 11:31 am:

I’ve witnessed before campaign staff that believe they are the candidate !!

  4. - LincolnLounger - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 11:33 am:

The website isn’t a garden party, either. Plenty of broken links, etc.

On another note, how can a man who is making his 3rd run for Governor continue to trot out the “I haven’t formulated a position on that”, “I haven’t read that proposal”, etc. Tedious.

  5. - RNUG - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 11:33 am:

As a writer and editor: “Ouch”

  6. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 11:33 am:

Please, take the 5 minutes, seriously, and proofread. Honestly, this is the impression you are leaving people at your website.

I am not being mean, honest, but this is the 3rd time statewide, you have to figure out by now that your Twitter, and your Webpage, and your Facebook are going to be seen, right? Doing just 5 minutes of proofreading goes a long way.

@FakeBillBrady - I was told “math” would be required to be governor this time with budget issues, now you have an “English” portion too? #ThereTheirTheyre

  7. - Robert the Bruce - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 11:39 am:

Maybe Rauner hired all the proofreaders.

  8. - Arthur Andersen - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 11:39 am:

@FakeBillBrady-What do you mean counties don’t vote? My campaign win 98 of them me last time! #unclearMathandEnglish

  9. - Robert the Bruce - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 11:40 am:

So, what are you looking for in a lieutenant governor, Senator Brady?

    “Proofreading skill.”

  10. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 11:41 am:

Yeah, the Twitter still has Bill Brady as a “former Candidate for Governor” …

    ===Bill Brady

    @Bill_Brady

Official Twitter page of State Senator, businessman and former Candidate for Governor of Illinois.===

    Um, you announced yesterday …

The one thing you can NOT be behind in, is The Twitter. It’s instant, and yet, you are behind?

    Yikes!

All campaigns have had weeks and weeks to get their rollouts ready and this “Mickey Mouse”, Half-Hearted, jokes these campaigns are starting with confuse me.

    My question;

Are you serious enought to WANT to be governor to make sure what you present of yourself is serious too?

Fix the social media, or don’t have any.

Do not… do not do it halfway.

    Do it.

I tell my students again and again, if you can write very well, there is a job waiting for you someplace after college.

    Because increasingly, too few can…

  12. - Formerly Known As... - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 11:42 am:

“No proofreaders. We are operating on a shoestring budget as an example to the state of Illinois.”

I’ll second @JustMe. It’s a human error that unfortunately happened on the first day and on the front page of the website. Too bad for the kid who ovelooked that, but not the end of the world.

I would be more worried about the candidate introducing another bill concerning cute, furry animals.

  13. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 11:45 am:

I think this was AFTER a correction was already made…

  14. - wordslinger - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 11:46 am:

Happened to me all the time in school.

“Please excuse my son’s absence from school yesterday. He was home sick. Signed, my mom.”

  15. - Will Caskey - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 11:50 am:

Rich he clearly said he was going to “finish the job.” Don’t mock the man for a work in progress.

  16. - grand old partisan - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 11:53 am:

Brady’s campaign is equal parts annoying, embarrassing and incoherent.

Is he the outsider/underdog, or is he the experienced old hand? (The honest answer: neither).

To me, this isn’t about Brady’s platform, but rather his performance. In other words, I’m not saying that a “true” conservative can’t win in IL. I’m just saying that Brady isn’t the one who can do it.

  17. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 11:55 am:

    No snark.

    Suggestion.

Shut everything down, EVERYTHING …”Under Construction” - Twitter and Facebook and Webpage.

Rollout the “Social Media” aspect of the campaign ALL at once, and clean the slate! Make it an “event”, strategize the Twitter feed, make it seem thoughtful, not just an “oops, our bad, let’s move on.”

With the “Reboot” (ok, but you haveta give me one Snark), honestly DO the social media, and do it Right.

Blow it up, “Under Consturction”, Rollout.

    There…Lemonade!

  18. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 11:57 am:

    Sorry, - AA - and - wordslinger -,

What do I charge for that Post? Is that in confluct with the Rauner deal?

  19. - siriusly - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 12:01 pm:

“Third time is the charm! Just ask Oberwise. Oh, wait you mean it took him four times . .? never mind” - Sen. Brady

  20. - Under Influenced - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 12:04 pm:

Brady’s “Issues” pages are a mess.

“He has supported and will to support real reform the state’s Workers’ Compensation and Unemployment Insurance systems, and serious tort reform measures.”

“He also supported last year a proposed Constitutional Amendment to require a similar super-majority to increase pension benefits for public employees.”

Couple of broken links as well. Pretty sloppy.

    Side note:

“Bill Brady recognizes that hard-working state employees and teachers are not at fault in the growing unfunded pension liability problem.”

He voted against SB2404 (union-backed proposal) and supported SB1….hmmmm record doesn’t reflect rhetoric.

  21. - Formerly Known As... - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 12:04 pm:

    @Oswego Willy,

Don’t hold it against me, but I am about to pull a Quinn and reverse course. You make some very sound points in your earlier post.

This is the face of your website. As a candidate for Governor. On the very first day (of your third run). You are making a first impression to some, and it’s not a good one.

Get it right. Or at least get the front page right.

    And fix the twitter. Now.

  22. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 12:09 pm:

    - Formerly Known As… -

    We’re all good!

Maybe it might help if they realize people look to their social media if they offer it, so why not make it … at least …passable?

  23. - Arthur Andersen - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 12:34 pm:

Willy, no “exclusivity.” Go easy on the bill for Bill, he doesn’t have the other guy’s money roll.

  24. - CircularFiringSquad - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 12:34 pm:

    Proofreader?
The guy who thought IL could function with a $6 billion less cash only needs a proofreader. Much too gentle. you must be counting on a hug ad buy!

  25. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 12:39 pm:

No “Up-Charge” for sure, and dropping a “zero” should … just about … do it.

To the Post, and to the campaign website specifically,

I am a bit surprised, on the website,… check out the “Blog” area too.

Just “Reboot” the whole thing. I am helping.

  26. - AFSCME Steward - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 12:44 pm:

To me the proofreading of a press release isn’t that big of deal. My concern is can he govern? Can he lead? The problem with Brady is he’s yesterday’s news. He ran in 10, he lost to a very weak candidate. He is part of the reason for the GOP’s decline in Illinois. He has no positions on anything because he is still analyzing the focus groups and polling data. He’s not alone, they’re all doing this. Which is why Illinois is in such a mess. We need a leader who has a plan before he announces he’s running. We need someone who isn’t going to promise the moon & the stars to buy votes. We need a GOP candidate that has a realistic vision, not just running promising to cut taxes and cut government if you vote for him. Bill Brady is not this person. Unfortunately, so far none of the other announced candidates are either.

  27. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 12:44 pm:

    FLASH - From the Campaign Site;

===On Wednesday, Senator Bill Brady will officially launch his campaign for Governor in 2014 with announcements of his candidacy in Chicago, Springfield, Marion and Bloomington.===

    Yea!!!

Now fix your Twitter and then you will be treading water.

  28. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 12:56 pm:

    From the Twitter!

===State Senator, businessman and Candidate for Governor of Illinois.===

    Congrats!

I still would reboot this whole thing.

Now that you are caught up, are THESE now acceptable as your platforms and what they all say now?

  29. - hisgirlfriday - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 1:28 pm:

As the first commenter noted, who is even going to notice the typo when the guy picks this week for his campaign rollout?

Even if it was that important to march in the 4th of July parades next week as a full fledged candidate it still doesn’t make any sense to do this rollout the same week as the blockbuster scotus rulings, state pension hearings and before the blackhawks parade has happened.

I mean its easy enough for the media to blow off bradys candidacy as a 3rd time runner without a new story and with little money but bradys timing of rollout just makes it that much easier to be ignored.

  30. - DanL60 - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 4:46 pm:

OW has it right. Kill the beasties now, fix them all up, get the unified graphic themes and messaging across all platforms, and then relaunch.

Already some real problems. You know he’s not ready when his Women & Families issue page kicks back a 404. Not even stay tuned or stop back, just a generic 404. And his two events are in the past.

Good grief. Is he doing this himself? Merry Christmas everyone! (see blog page)

  31. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 5:07 pm:

Now it’s 5pm, the day AFTER the stops, announcing Bill Brady’s run for governor, right?

    The twitter’s last Tweet?

“I am not giving up on Illinois. Announcement tomorrow”

    Yikes!

How about a 25 second tweet, TODAY …

“Thanks for all who came out.”

Nothing? Not one mention or thank you?

This is a campaign twitter. You made campaign stops, and no thank yous?

    Food for thought…

  32. - Downstater - Thursday, Jun 27, 13 @ 7:39 pm:

If at first one does not succeed, try, try again. Senator Brady can certainly win a party primary next year and be a serious candidate for Governor. It is true that he possesses a credible base to make such a run. What remains to be seen that his organization is built too well for a primary; not a general election. This is especially true for his media communications and his choice of a solid running mate to help to build a winning electoral coalition.
