* WLS…
At City Hall, a stink is being raised over medical marijuana regulation.
Some of the aldermen don’t like where the state is forcing the city to allow medical marijuana dispensaries and growing areas.
It’s basically in manufacturing districts and Alderman Carrie Austin is crying foul. “Very resourceful individuals in the City of Chicago might open up a bakery with some brownies! So, that bothers me!”
- wordslinger - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 1:34 pm:
Some very resourceful people have, for a long time, been peddling heroin to suburbanites and downstaters at open-air markets in Austin.
So that bothers me. Brownies, not so much.

Carrie Austin bothers me. So, I guess we’re even.
- PoolGuy - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 1:40 pm:
yea only blue collar/lower income people smoke weed. all those rich suburban kids I went to college with never touched the stuff.
all those taverns, liquor stores, pawn shops and check cashing stores are just dandy.
- Demoralized - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 1:42 pm:
Why not just exempt the city. They get special treatment on all kinds of other things.
- Anonymous - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 1:45 pm:
Considering, what’s one more bother?
- Formerly Known As... - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 1:46 pm:
“Your honor, we are not dispensary that bakes cookies and brownies.
We are a bakery that dispenses marijuana.
As you can see, this has all been a big misunderstanding.”
- OneMan - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 1:55 pm:
Really, brownies?
- Whatever - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 1:55 pm:
Mmmm, brownies.
- wordslinger - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 2:03 pm:
John, c’mon man. Those chemo patients and MS sufferers want to get off harder drugs like Oxy and Vic. They’re not out for kicks.
Illinois med-mar law is a long way off from legalization for recreational use.
- OneMan - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 2:04 pm:
John, I don’t want my kids using it, but at some level we need to unclench a bit about it.
- Rich Miller - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 2:05 pm:
John’s post was deleted and if he posts another idiotic comment like that here he’ll be gone permanently.
- OneMan - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 2:27 pm:
Perhaps he just needs an industrial brownie.
- Commonsense in Illinois - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 2:38 pm:
Alderman…think of the jobs…bakers, packaging, distribution route drivers…
Come on - Brownies = Good
- A guy... - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 2:56 pm:
If they’d pass a few of these brownies around during the negotiations, this issue would be settled. Very peacefully.
- Chavez-respecting Obamist - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 2:58 pm:
Sorry I missed whatever idiocy John (whoever he is) spouted. I wish I could say the same about the Hon. C Austin.
- walker - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 2:59 pm:
Put it in all medical centers, medical sites, and give it to all drug stores and pharmacists to dispense.
It’s really just about medical use, isn’t it?
- Norseman - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 3:35 pm:
My wife always got a laugh out of the little old ladies who would bring around for medical marihuana lobby day.
- Norseman - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 3:36 pm:
Oops “bring around brownies”
- Judgment Day - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 4:52 pm:
“Mary Jane’s Brownies”
“Locally baked right here in Chicago”
A ‘Growing business’ right here in Chicago.
This could work….
- Judgment Day - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 4:54 pm:
Maybe a new product for the commodity exchanges.
- Just The Way It Is One - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 5:00 pm:
As to Alderman Austin’s remark, I do hope it was only flippant (although I sadly doubt it), and so can only reply, “Oh BROTHer!!!” But cry foul all ya want–the law is FAIR and Chicago’d best stop moanin’ about it and figure out how to reasonably IMplement it!!
- Arthur Andersen - Thursday, Jan 23, 14 @ 5:01 pm:
Sounds like there’s a little dope at City Hall.
