It allows them to have 2 games on NBCSN. The more intriguing of the 2 “Western” games are blues/hawks so they inevitably have to be the “West Coast” game.
and probably just as importantly, Canada’s CBC is broadcasting 2 of the 3 games. As mentioned in the political ad comments, one of the only times views watch TV live nowadays is when watching live sports. So I think the longer they can stretch out the night the more $$$ they will get from advertisers.
Since we are talking sports - it’s been painful to watch the Bulls / Wizards series. Looks like we might be out in 4 (which I wouldn’t have predicted).
Hawks are looking better after a tough start to the series. Amazing what that first win will do for you.
Sox are holding their own and the Cubs are still…the Cubs.
–I remember when the NBA playoff games were back to back with a travel day. Now, there are 2-3 days between games. Thanks tv for ruining things.–
Thank Magic and Larry, but even more than them, thank Michael and Nike.
I used to be in the sport marketing biz, and you can’t overestimate how Michael and Nike changed consumer choice beyond sports, TV — the whole culture.
It all became about aspiration, daddio. I want to be like Mike.
There’s no reason those seniors need to be doing their mall-walks in $150 Jordans except that they aspire to live forever — they want to be like Mike, lol.

Bulls had a good season, but there’s nothing to be done when you have their lineup. Rose looked like he could have been the third best player in the NBA before he got injured the first time. Hard to tell where he’s going to be at the start of the next season. If he’s still Top 10 material and Melo is traded to Chicago, it could be a really good season coming up.
Our man from Peoria, Shaun Livingston, has had a career year for the Nets and has been looking pretty good in the playoffs. If you’re looking for a team to cheer for, you could do worse than the Nets.

As long as there’s good basketball being played, who cares? The NBA is a business. Nearly all the series that were expected to be contentious are on TNT/ABC/ESPN and the rest are on NBATV. They’ve done a pretty good job with it. This basketball fan is happy and the games have been pretty amazing this year.

Geez, what’s with the late start for the Hawks/Blues? You’d think the NHL would make them the 7 p.m. game to get as much prime time as possible.
They’ve got Pittsburgh/Columbus at 7 p.m. No way that comes close to Hawks/Blues ratings.

Person, I don’t think the first game will be done by 8:30 when the puck drops for Hawks/Blues.
Stones, playoff basketball is a little different than the regular season, isn’t it?
Most NBA teams phone it in during the regular season these days, except for marquis games on national TV.
The Bulls overachieved in the regular season.

word, if the game goes to OT, you’re right otherwise they will just butt up, with maybe a little overlap.
Pens/Jackets
Game 1: 2hr 33min
Game 2: Double OT
Game 3: 2hr 28min
With the exception of the OT games and a couple of other games, they all fall within the 2:20 - 2:35 range.

It looks like the link is being auto-moderated for language, but there’s a very disturbing story breaking about Governor Quinn’s twitter account.
Talk about an afternoon update, much less ethnic and racial sensitivity. Sheesh.
