Nice start, $368K, in May…
Will be interested what the Ad looks like that has that kind of cash in May behind it.

Always interesting to see who a campaign is targeting with a specific ad based on the demographics of the channels and times they buy on.
- Just Observing - Tuesday, May 6, 14 @ 12:42 pm:
I have a feeling a lot of Dold ads will try to leave the impression that he is still the incumbent.
- wordslinger - Tuesday, May 6, 14 @ 12:46 pm:
Good to come out of the box positive. How negative can you go on a rookie in the minority?
- Responsa - Tuesday, May 6, 14 @ 1:39 pm:
This will be an interesting re-race to watch. Brad seems to be a decent enough guy but he has really not proven to be a good fit with the district and he is not a natural politician.

How’s that? They elected him.

Obama year.

“Tea” was me.
- wordslinger - Tuesday, May 6, 14 @ 1:45 pm:
Team, you’re allowed to be elected in pres. years, too, lol.
When you win, I guess you’re a close enough fit.
- A. Nonymous - Tuesday, May 6, 14 @ 1:49 pm:
Why didn’t Team America run for village board agin? Bad fit.
Bizarre argument to say someone isn’t a natural politician ….. in an anti-incumbent year. (Voters have little choice here if its truly an anti-incumbent year)
- A. Nonymous - Tuesday, May 6, 14 @ 1:50 pm:
Is Bob ‘Carpetbagger’ Dold going to run against Tammy Duckworth and Peter Roskam next?
Or did the chamber forget to look at a map?
- A guy... - Tuesday, May 6, 14 @ 1:51 pm:
In the game of Chip Away in Illinois, this district is the first chip. Let’s see if the next chip falls in the Quad Cities. I sure hope there’s at least one more chip, preferably two.

I remember the days when Republicans won by focusing on and demonstrating their strengths, including an unwillingness to engage in petty battles and disseminating lies about themselves and others which made them look bat $hit crazy and paranoid.
The worst anyone, including supporters ever had to worry about, were the effective, craftily worded (and often funny) stings that JBT ocassionaly lobbed out at the troops to motivate them and at opponents to “disarm” them.

Yes “they” did elect him. It is his performance post- election that demonstrated Brad has turned out not to be such a good fit with the district. Time did not stop, and voters’ hopes and assessments of his qualities did not stop on the day he assumed office. Can you dig it, Word?

Exactly. It is far easier to evaluate a Congressman’s performance and “fit with the district” as a Congressman after they have been elected and served at least part of their first term representing the district. Save for any psychics living in the 10th, of course.
- Walker - Tuesday, May 6, 14 @ 5:05 pm:
Have we all forgotten that Dold also served a term in Congress, and was seen by the voters as “not a good fit?”
It’s close. It won’t be either of the candidates that determines this one, but turnout driven by perspectives on the economy, Obamacare, and national politics.

This is a change election and to many it is looking like a Republican wave. So it should not be a surprise that a viable GOP candidate with roots within a congressional district, who had only recently been turned out by voters in a dominant Democratic election - would see Dold as a good bet this time.
