Overall pretty good video — maybe a bit too long — 99.9 percent of the electorate will never see it. But positive, upbeat, etc. I give it an A-minus.

  2. - DuPage Rep - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 9:28 am:

Gov. Cupcake, getting the job done! Very sad that is all he has to talk about. C

  3. - phocion - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 9:29 am:

Heartwarming stuff, but is too long to keep most viewers attention. Strong message about Quinn fighting the bureaucrats. Cute kids and cupcakes always sell. I give it a C+ because it’s too long; if they shorten it it could easily be a B+.

  4. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 9:30 am:

    “C+ ”

Would have graded way higher, but the line, “Gov. Quinn worked with Chloe…”

    That line made me think of the counter to this great ad immediately;

“While Gov. Quinn can work with children to pass Bills, Pat Quinn ignores the adult problems facing Illinois.”

    Yikes.

Maybe too sweet to consume without major cavity in his leadership teeth.

  5. - Ray del Camino - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 9:30 am:

Reminds me of what we like about PQ.

  6. - Amalia - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 9:31 am:

really cute. makes you like the Gov. and cupcakes.

  7. - Concerned Voter - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 9:34 am:

The most views it will get is right her on CapFax. To long. C-

  8. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 9:36 am:

“We didn’t exactly believe your story, Mr. Rauner; we believed your $53 million dollars you made last year…I mean, you made more than all of us the, to tell the truth, and enough more to make it all ‘right, exactly right,…”

  9. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 9:37 am:

    My bad. Apologies.

  10. - Tsavo - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 9:43 am:

    “Nero fiddled while Rome burned”

  11. - Larry the Cable Guy - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 9:44 am:

Right here we have a governor who supports family businesses, while the other guy wants to run the state like a “bidness” and says he has no interest in people issues. But with Sen. Kyle tea party McCarter in the background? Now that there was funny.

  12. - William j Kelly - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 9:45 am:

If this election comes down to ‘niche voters’ I would have to say Quinn just won by 99% to Rauner’s 1%!;)))

  13. - Langhorne - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 9:49 am:

    yawn

  14. - Nice, but... - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 9:51 am:

It’s too long for the subject matter, and there’s a lot of distracting background noise.

The Governor’s advance team should know that events like these will require videos, and plan accordingly. It might have been better to send the video folks there ahead of time to do the interview with the little girl before it got so noisy.

  15. - Edwardsburg - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 9:57 am:

    I spy Troy Mayor Adomite…

  16. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 10:02 am:

    - wjk -, always classy. Bad form.

  17. - rolling meadows - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 10:07 am:

to long, message could have been much better with the good content, ie saw a problem that’s indicative of wrong thinking and fixed it

  18. - OneMan - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 10:10 am:

OW — You are just another Rahm/Rauner Billionare or to scale being from Oswego a LeClercq TenThousandare….

  19. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 10:13 am:

    - OneMan -, I’ll take half of that in cash, you get 10% for the branding…

  20. - Jose Abreu's next homer - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 10:14 am:

Great ad if he were running for class president in grade school. For a Governor’s race, meh. C-

  21. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 10:17 am:

The concept is great. I don’t think anyone watches these videos but there are the makings of a great spot there.

Are you kidding? Metro East, beautiful kid, good-looking young family, small business, beating those darn bureaucrats, cupcakes…. and Quinn in the middle of it all, in their home, as the hero.

Quinn saw an opportunity and grabbed this issue from Obie. What a great stroke of fortune for him that the family played ball.

It’s going to be a monster spot.

  22. - The Shadow - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 10:20 am:

Everyone who thinks it’s too long, I invite you to watch other short docs on the web. 2 mins is pretty par for course. I agree some icing could be trimmed off this video but who trims off the icing on a cupcake? This isn’t an AD, it’s a web video and should be treated as such. I give it an A overall.

  23. - Toure's Latte - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 10:20 am:

    Dear Quinn campaign staff:

    Get. It. Together.

  24. - walker - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 10:20 am:

    Hunh? Okeydoke.

    C for the Gentleman.

Pat doesn’t need any help with being seen as nice with children. He needs help with bigger issues.

  25. - Wumpus - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 10:38 am:

    1. If there is no state inspection/regulation, how do we know if the girl has cooties?

    2. Rauner should capitalize on the one thing more trendy/annoying than cupcakes, frozen yogurt.

    3. What idiot made the call to shut her down?

    4. Too long

    5. PQ should know by now it is rude to talk with food in one’s mouth.

  26. - Demoralized - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 10:39 am:

==This kid better brace herself for the jack roeser smear campaign …… Oh wait…. Never mind==

One of the most insensitive and despicable things I’ve seen on this blog in a while.

  27. - Arthur Andersen - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 10:40 am:

Yeah, it’s a tad too long and a bit noisy.

Yeah, it’s a small thing in a state of big problems.

But, it held my attention, made me smile and think kindly of a guy I really don’t like.

    A+.

  28. - OneMan - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 10:42 am:

    Demoralized

I was kind of impressed he didn’t use the words Billionare, Rahm or his URL in a comment….

  29. - Nice, but... - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 10:56 am:

The issue is not the number of minutes. The issue is whether it felt too long.

There’s a really cute 1-minute video in here — I’d edit it down until I get there. Governor. Kid. Family busieness. Cupcakes. Bam.

  30. - William j Kelly - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 10:58 am:

Demoralized, just between you and me, I am sure you thought it was equally insensitive and despicable that roeser never missed an opportunity to tell me I was corrupt because my deceased father had been a Chicago public school employee, am I right?

  31. - Smitty - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 11:02 am:

    An instant McCarter classic

  32. - Empty Suit - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 11:02 am:

Quinn stepped in? Really? He fought the bill for two weeks and now takes credit. Is anyone surprised.

  33. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 11:09 am:

@FakeJimOberweis - Whaaat happened? I just helped Pat Quinn? Bruce is defiantly not going to call me back #MeltingRaunerSupport #LeftInTheCold #RichCreamyIrony.

  34. - Demoralized - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 11:12 am:

    @Willima J. Kelly:

Please stop already. You are making yourself look like a jackass.

The guy just passed away. Enough with your juvenile victimhood.

You rightly deserve the OW title of DOPE in this case.

  35. - Wumpus - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 11:23 am:

WillJKelly. Not sure if we agree on much, but I find no problem with your post. He was a flamethrower, but also did a lot for charities. Never too soon

  36. - ChinaTown - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 11:28 am:

Who on earth does the messaging for this campaign? This is “very important legislation” says PQ?

Is this a race to the bottom with Rauner and his “Blueprint” to see who can offer the most meaningless fluff?

  37. - Soccermom - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 11:39 am:

Chinatown — it’s not a bad strategy to remind voters who wins on the likability contest.

  38. - Frustrated Voter - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 11:40 am:

Several republicans in the background: Rep. Charlie Meier, Sen. Kyle McCarter and Troy Mayor Allen Adomite. I even saw Sens Haine and Claiborne. Not sure why there were there, other than a cheap photo op with the guv. Charlie Meier is the one who introduced the bill and fought for it. The Dems tried to gut it and add regulations, but finally relented when they were called out for their ridiculousness. Then, predictably, Quinn swings in on a chandelier and claims credit.

  39. - ANON - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 12:01 pm:

I never was a cupcake girl. Thought it was a good solution hanging with the raisin girls.

  40. - Union Man - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 12:39 pm:

    Did Squeezy get a cupcake?

  41. - William j Kelly - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 12:47 pm:

Demoralized, it must be awesome to have the power to decide who the dopes or jackasses are or when it’s ‘enough.’ I really wish I could have had that special power myself back when roeser was attacking my recently deceased father.

  42. - Wumpus - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 12:49 pm:

I hear she is voting for Quinn.

  43. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 2:08 pm:

Some of you guys are missing some real positive visual images. It will make a great spot.

  44. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 2:15 pm:

    - wordslinger -, I hear ya, and I have made mistakes looking at what the visual “says”, and what I am seeing for me, and just me.

    Still stand by this;

===Would have graded way higher, but the line, “Gov. Quinn worked with Chloe…”

    That line made me think of the counter to this great ad immediately;

“While Gov. Quinn can work with children to pass Bills, Pat Quinn ignores the adult problems facing Illinois.”===

Doesn’t mean the visual can carry the day, or that the counter will never be put into play.

    I am always learning here…

  45. - elder lobbyist - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 2:32 pm:

Too long, but everyone likes to have a cute girl win against the bureaucrats. Maybe we can sell cupcakes to fill the budget holes, but I’m sure some nutritionist will complain about the hight amount of added sugar.

  46. - Responsa - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 3:27 pm:

Is Chloe really the “number one cupcake purveyor in Illinois”? Or is Gov. Quinn engaging in a bit of campaign hyperbole? :)

Cute family and cute video but way too long and too typically full of PQ babble-speak.

  47. - Just The Way It Is One - Tuesday, Jun 17, 14 @ 7:18 pm:

All in all, just a really happy event for Chloe, her family, gathered friends, and as the child herself noted, ALL such Home Bakers in her shoes in a cottage industry that mostly just exists to make people smile, help others, and maybe make a few dollars for spending money, (or perhaps toward a future “College Fund” for Chloe herself)!

Indeed, Pat Quinn benefits too, to be sure, and this “Feel Good” Ad, whether you care for the Governor or not, will only prove to be a + for him because, once again, it portrays PQ as the Nice guy, Uncle Pat, your friendly Next Door Neighbor who may not have mowed his lawn this week but who’ll watch out for you in the Neighborhood, the “Man of the People,” who fights for simple things in life which are important to the “little guy,” or in this case “little gal” by doing the right thing. There’s just really no way around granting him an “A” for not only the Commercial, but for avidly backing the entire Measure from the Get Go…!
