Adventures in tracking
Friday, Aug 8, 2014 - Posted by Rich Miller * Bruce Rauner’s tracker took video today of Gov. Pat Quinn being questioned by Statehouse reporter Hannah Meisel about how his security detail kicked a tracker out of a public event a couple of weeks ago… An additional irony is that the booted tracker is related to a different reporter who was at today’s scrum. Probably not a great move by the Quinnsters, although the reporter is about as top notch as one can get. * Meanwhile, remember how the Quinn campaign has been complaining about a tracker who allegedly hides in bathrooms at events to avoid being detected by Quinn security? The Quinnsters say the tracker also changed clothes after being turned away from one event. Well, the tracker in question is featured prominently in a Rauner door-hanger, which is entitled “Put politics aside, support Bruce and Evelyn” and features endorsements from a couple of Democrats an independent and the GOP tracker…

A Rauner tracker who is also an endorser?
I’m shocked!
It sure is a small world.
- Easy - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 12:56 pm:
Trackers are people too
- OneMan - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 12:57 pm:
So I am guessing the tracker is generally not hiding in the same restroom Quinn is planning on using…
- Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 1:03 pm:
If it’s true you hide in bathrooms and change your clothes to videotape…you might be creepy.
- Gooner - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 1:03 pm:
Although I was one of the ones who thought the tracker was treated badly, I have no problems with the Gov’s response. It was a badly phrased question. “Isn’t that a double standard?” Isn’t what a double standard?
A better reporter would have asked him if he was aware of the tracker being removed, whether he knew of a reason for the tracker to be removed, and if so, whether he agreed with the reason(s).
The incident raised real questions about the conduct of the ISP, and the reporter blew it.
Hopefully, a better (or more prepared) reporter will follow up.

Ugh, they’re producing Eternal Victims young these days.
Kid, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
Spend a couple/three decades juggling work, marriage, house, mortgage, kids, aging parents and more, then get back to us.
Til then, go home and get your shine box.
- fed up - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 1:08 pm:
HMM I wonder if the Quinn trackers are supporters of Pat Quinn.
- William j Kelly - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 1:10 pm:
I am curious about Rauner’s security detail, like who are they? Who is paying them? Where are they listed on Rauner’s d2s? At most rauner event there is more security than people, what is rauner afraid of? Maybe they are out of work term limit petitioners? Maybe rauner never meet his rouge payroll company?

At least she doesn’t follow Tom Cross
- PoolGuy - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 1:11 pm:
if that tracker, and others like her (on both sides, to be fair) have to stoop that low for a job (hiding in restrooms/changing clothes/following people around) what does that have to say about the potential non-career politician you might be working for if he’s elected?
I would feel let down by my career or non-career politician boss if they asked me to hide in bathrooms and dress up in clown suits. jeesh.
- Ghost - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 1:12 pm:
so why do we not call these folks Paparazzi?

Can we still use the term Low Information Posters? Remember all the outrage over the Rauner tracker ambushing Quinn in the bathroom.

I can answer your question about Rauners security detail…
The campaign produced a video showing some of the stuff they have had to deal with on the trail so far…

If one of them is carrying a hairbrush, he might be a mole.
- Rod - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 1:41 pm:
In relation to Priyanka Golwala whose quote is posted by Rich. Did Rauner’s people claim Ms. Golwala was a Democrat who suddenly became a Rauner supporter? In other words a convert like Rev Meeks.
The reason I ask that Rich is she is currently the volunteer Coordinator of Citizens for Rauner, Inc and is also involved in a conservative student organization called Turning Point, USA.
She is a student at Loyola University, but I am less than clear that she was ever a Democrat.
- OneMan - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 1:43 pm:
Rod,
I’m gonna guess since it says Republican next to her name and there is no reference to Democrats in her blurb…. That they were not calling her a Democrat
- William j Kelly - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 1:44 pm:
One man, you might be on to something. The only advise I can give you is follow the money, that is if you can figure out which 501c3, 501c4, educational foundation, off shore bank account and or term limit payroll company rauner is using at the moment to buy the election.

Show me a tracker who comes back with a deer and I’ll show you a good tracker.
- Jaded - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 2:15 pm:
Apaches. Now they were good trackers.
- mcb - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 2:17 pm:
This would be more fun if the Rauner tracker was in Quinn’s hanger, or vice-versa. Short of that… Why are people still talking about this?
In defense of the reporter here in question, she did some top notch investigative work for the Daily Illini while still a student at UI. She may have been the best reporter at this event.
- Rich Miller - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 2:17 pm:
Jaded… lol
- William j Kelly - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 2:34 pm:
Mcb, I have a feeling the investigative reporter who is able to blow the lid off the offshore rauner scandal before November will be considered ‘top notch’ for years to come.
- Louis G Atsaves - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 2:54 pm:
I’ve met this girl several times this summer! Thanks for posting the photo!
There is no way she is hiding in bathrooms or telephone booths or in parking lots or tunnels and changing her clothes. She is a very bright, articulate young lady and strikes me as being a model young person everyone would love to have as their daughter.
No way!

So, word, you are expecting a person to have 30 years of perspective before they can have the perspective? That is metaphorically illogical. Were you never a wide eyed and bushy tailed idealist? Were you a curmudgeon in your teens?

–So, word, you are expecting a person to have 30 years of perspective before they can have the perspective?–
Her alleged “perspective” is that her “generation has been let down.” That’s hardly “wide-eyed idealism.” That’s whining.
My point was, if you’re already an Eternal Victim in college, you’re in for a pretty rough go of it when the responsibilities start piling up.
No go home and get your shine box!

Rumor has it the only hairbrush in the Rauner campaign is to remove hair (and lint) from the Carhartts … ~

I saw this gal yelling at one of our nuns after she asked her to leave my kid’s grade school while the Gov was there. Staff didn’t want her around because she was so aggressive—at a grade school! Hate to know where she got her training.
- Anonymoiis - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 4:01 pm:
So, Quinn’s response was basically “I heard your question, but instead of answering that question i will give an answer to another question.” He must be prepping for debates already.
==The Quinnsters say the tracker also changed clothes after being turned away from one event.==
How dare she!! Wait…what? She changed clothes? This is scandalous now? LOL

Not scandalous but creepy.
You have a penchant with “outrage” and “scandalous” bad meaning of words…
…they don’t think what you think they mean.
Changing into a costume, kinda creepy, just changing clothes…that is creepy.

I take issue with the attack on her age. “Go home get your shine box” is a a pretty crass thing to say. I don’t think the older generation has a monopoly on problems. In fact I’m proud of the role younger people play in IL politics today. It might be uncomfortable but this/these tracker(s) are doing the dirty work in politics. Maybe by shining shoes so much they realized they really are eternal victims if others pretend to be their eternal masters. Good of them for showing passion for showing the willingness to do these dirty political jobs. While they may not have mortgages and Volvo payments. They have college debt that their older peers do not. You might not like that she is supporting or working for Rauner, but I really can’t agree with her enough that “Career politicians have let my generation down”. When her generation is reaching retirement they’ll really have something to complain about, kudos to her for trying to do something (even if you disagree with her) to change that.

=== “Go home get your shine box” is a a pretty crass thing to say.===
It’s from Goodfellas, and it talks about starting out, bottom rung, like a tracker.
===It might be uncomfortable but this/these tracker(s) are doing the dirty work in politics.===
Uncomfortable is fine, creepy is creepy.
===Maybe by shining shoes so much they realized they really are eternal victims if others pretend to be their eternal masters.===
Missed the metaphor, but it’s exciting reading “victims” when talking about creepy tracking techniques as something to take pride in.
===While they may not have mortgages and Volvo payments. They have college debt that their older peers do not.===
Some older folk still hep with paying college. So maybe older folks know about college debt.
===“Career politicians have let my generation down”.===
“Except when Bruce Rauner donates to them.” lol
===When her generation is reaching retirement they’ll really have something to complain about…===
Really? You KNOW how things might be in 40 years?
Tell us, what will it be like? Don’t guess, tell us. You know!
===kudos to her for trying to do something (even if you disagree with her) to change that.===
Doing something allegedly creepy deserves kudos? Yikes.
