Umm…

* Sun-Times…
On a day when Republicans were otherwise well-choreographed, U.S. Senate candidate Jim Oberweis attempted to respond to the Democrats’ painting them as the detached party of the rich. Oberweis, a millionaire who has so far donated $1 million to his run for Senate, worked to cast Durbin as a millionaire. The attempt landed with an awkward thud.
“Please repeat after me,” Oberweis asked the crowd. “Millionaire! Career politician! Dick Durbin! Must go!”
- Edwardsburg - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 9:59 am:
Outside of the nameless AG and SOS candidates, he was the worst speaker at GOP day. His speech was long and tired with no energy, and that nonsensical chant.
- wordslinger - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:00 am:
Yeah, that was weird, on the millionaire and perennial candidate levels.
- Mr. Big Trouble - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:00 am:

Please remove foot from mouth slowly so as not to choke..
- MrJM - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:00 am:
“And have you seen how much ice cream Dick Durbin eats?”
– MrJM
- Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:02 am:
The Slytherins loved it!
“Please repeat after me,” Oberweis asked the crowd. “Millionaire! Career politician! Dick Durbin! Must go!”…
“My Florida resident wife, avoiding taxes, told me to say that!”
He’s a buffoon, but he’s his district’s buffoon…
- Soccermom - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:03 am:
I don’t know who I love more, the Abominable Milkman or MrJM…

His campaign staff know better what he should be saying. They’ve put out some strong remarks in the past several weeks.
Obie ought never approach a microphone without notes in hand, if he really wants to win.
- overcooked - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:06 am:
Lots of surprised faces when Obey released that gem. Of all the tone-deaf statements he has made so far, that was the tone-deafiest.
- William j Kelly - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:10 am:
It could have been worse, Oberwaste could have thrown in offshore tax dodger!
- yo - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:18 am:
I think Obie was trying to make the point that a guy who has been a career politician is a multi-millionaire. Remember when that ancient Senator from WV (byrd?) died it was revealed how rich he was. The point is, if you are in politics and serving people how is it you got so rich?
- phocion - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:19 am:
Dope.
- facts are stubborn things - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:20 am:
There are a lot of millionaire in this country any more.
- Jaded - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:22 am:
Durbin wakes up nervous every day. Then he has his staff check the State Board of Elections site and sees Jim Oberweis as the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate. He smiles relaxes and goes on about his day.
- Projection - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:24 am:
Embarrassing examples of projection should be left to conservative talk radio hosts.
- Wensicia - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:26 am:
Well, at least Durbin doesn’t have to hire a clown to portray Oberweis. Dude does a fine job clowning on his own.
- Arizona Bob - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:32 am:
Why on earth is this guy running? We would have been much better of with the highly motivated, bright, articulate opponent he had in the primary.
Hasn’t OB got something better to do?
- Roadiepig - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:33 am:
Wensica FTW
- Norseman - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:34 am:
Give me a pill! AZ Bob said something I agree with.
- Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:37 am:
Ok, I’m convinced.
Oberweis makes sense.
I’m going to write a check…to defeat Durbin…to a multimillionaire perrenial candidate.
It was more fun when Oberweis was handing out ice cream to people with pitchforks and torches trying to remove people in My Party because of SSM.
Bruce Rauner has a better grasp of HIS hypocrisy, and that’s saying something.
- Norseman - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:38 am:
“Millionaire! Career politician! Dick Durbin! Must go!”
“Wine drinking! Millionaire! Career politician! Dick Durbin! Must go!”
“Caviar eating! Wine drinking! Millionaire! Career politician! Dick Durbin! Must go!”
“Pinkie out tea cup holding! Caviar eating! Wine drinking! Millionaire! Career politician! Dick Durbin! Must go!”

- Norsemam -,
My Plummer meds come in Green or Yellow, just don’t operate heavy machinery or vote while taking them.
@FakeSlytherinJim - I’m not the millionaire, it’s my Florida-living, tax dodging wife whose the millionaire. #UnderTheBusNext
- RonOglesby - Now in TX - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:41 am:
I dont like Durbin but that was stupid.
- anon - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:41 am:
Weird
- Gage Park - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:43 am:
Almost makes me feel bad for his press secretary.
- Empty Suit - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 10:45 am:

It’s all in the delivery Ice Cream man.

- Steve - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 11:11 am:
The present value of Dick Durbin’s pension is over $1 Million. He is a real financial burden for taxpayers. Voted him out of office makes good financial sense.
- a drop in - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 11:18 am:
Dick Durbin, white male. Obie should have added that.
- Yellow Dog Democrat - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 11:40 am:
Dick Durbin is a millionaire if you count the value of his house and his retirement savings.
Personally, I’d rather have a senator who knows how to save a million dollars than Oberweis, who has a proven record of blowing through millions.
- Conservative Republican - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 11:42 am:
Check this out http://ballotpedia.org/Dick_Durbin
Scroll down more than half way. Dick Durbin’s net worth is over one million dollars. That makes him a millonaire.
Oberweis’s charge is a fair slam against Durbin, a career politician. Oberweis made his money in the private sector, which, last time I checked, is still legal…
- Jimmy CrackCorn - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 11:55 am:
I would recommend against giving Jim Oberweis the tambourine if he joins your band. I have no sense of rhythm whatsoever, but can’t figure how he thought that chant would catch fire.
- Federalist - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 12:42 pm:
Oberweis is a pathetic speaker, and often seems to be tone deaf.
However, according to the data in ballotpedia.org he has a net worth of $1.3 million. How much of that was before public office I do not know, it would be interesting to find out.
As far as I am concerned two bad choices but that’s the way it is.
- Daryl - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 12:49 pm:
ConservativeRepublican?
Mr. Dan Curry really has all this time on his hands to make up names to post on here defending his guy?
- Michelle Flaherty - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 1:15 pm:
It wouldn’t be Republican Day if Oberweis didn’t light himself on fire
- Ghost - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 1:42 pm:
Repeat after me
Simon, Oberweis and Frerichs, Oh my!
- OLK 73 - Friday, Aug 15, 14 @ 2:15 pm:
